I still want to do a widget that shows the cdcover of an mp3 playing. But I would have nothing against someone else doing it. I have a piece of code that downloads an album cover from amazon, but I stopped making a widget that used it because the current dxplayer plugin doesn't yet do everything I'd lik

DRAFT So I’ve gone a bought a Apple Mac. After years of on and off customising making my XP box look like various versions of OSX, and of people commenting ??’Why don’t you just buy a Mac ffs!’?? I went to The UK Apple Store web site and got me a Mini Mac 1 <
Voo said You have a Macmini? Yep, picked it up from the depot 2 days ago The cheap 1.25Ghz/256 MB one, just need to buy a putty knife and put 512Mb in.
Windows XP Pro SP2 Ubuntu Linux (hoary) Mac OSX 10.3.8 Sadly only one monitor between the 3 of them atm - tea and CRTs don't mix well!

I don't think some people have actually read what the title of this article is... Why freeware **nearly always** loses in the long run. see that 'nearly' in there? He is commenting on a pattern that he has observed. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule. I've always thought of OpenSource Software and Freeware as two separate categories, that typically OSS has a group of coders or people that submit patches to the co
Great news I've already uploaded my DX3 widget
Ok, I think I can see how that would work, thanks for the reply I'll hold fire on the media widget for now. I best tart up my other widget to be ready for the DX3 release.
There is this article which you may find useful. http://www.computing.net/hardware/wwwboard/forum/29817.html
Another excellent example of indie developer on a shoe string budget, but still coming up with the goods is Introversion who have recently release a game called Darwinia. I've been playing it for the past two weeks and I'm loving every second of it. They are planning to offer a web downloadable version of the game as an alternative to buying it in the shops or ordering it direct from them. Maybe St
Woodbridge dragged article back from the depths of page X If this plugin is still looking for new things to do, then I have a couple of suggestions. I stopped making a Media widget because I couldn't get it do two thing (these may be possible via DX script, but its far beyond my scripting knowledge). I was messing around with a script to display album art, but I wanted it to display the album art that

Out of interest, those of us who have the DX3 beta, who will have widget/gagdets ready for the DX3 release?
...Nothing I did could fix it, except going back to .bmp (which I wasn't willing to do -- no alpha channel...)... This is from the DX3 build, which might interest you...
Not sure if this is really a DX3 bug or just the way Windows does things, but if a Widget.Preference("name").Caption is too long it pushes everything off the side of the window. Link Something to be aware of if your making preferences.
There are a fair few JScripted examples in new Widgets that come with DX3 (at least they are with the beta build I've been given. Not long now
...it'd be very practical if the script obtainted a list of drives that can be measures and then populate the list. Tiggz Cabal Drives widget has a script that lists the available drives, I'd assume the same script could be used to insert values into the widget preference.
pretty neat stuff.. soo.. if i got 50 invites and i keep inviting my self .. i get an extra 50gigs?.. hmm.. that'll require lots of diferent email addys Not too mention a few more letters in the alphabet for your drive letters <img src="http://images.stardock.com/wc/smiles/Wink.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absm
You'll have to add a bit of code to the object before exporting it out as a Widget. Thats if you're using DesktopX 2..... Find a widget that remembers its position and look in the script. This isn't a problem with DX3 which is only a couple of weeks away!
Maybe Stardock could add a similar popup box to the DX3 Developer that is in SkinStudio. Whenever someone imports a widget a little msg pops up saying something the author has written like "This widget is written by X, if you want to modifiy and redistribute then you need to seek permision" etc.
Can't wait to see what magic you will work Matt
I know Stardock/_Martin_ said that we are free to reuse their scripts in our own objects, plus for certain objects there aren't exactly many ways of doing something. Although saying that my knowledge of VB scripting/DX scripting is soley from looking at other peoples DesktopX scripts (probably a really bad way of learning it...) so perhaps that why I think there is only one or two ways of doing things..
I've not had much time to use it yet (damn you place-of-employment!) but I have been looking at the code of all the new widgets and dxpacks, and seeing what new things can be done (love the marquee effect on some of them...small thing eh? ) I did notice that the dxpacks were installed into the same place as the widgets.
It can take time, my Gmail Widget took a couple of days too, even though I've got Journeyman status. Although I did send an email to Jafo thinking I'd messed up the update.
