I've also tried all market centers. Is this a viable strategy? As noted previously in several other threads and by reference above, this strategy is more viable the more planets you have in a star system. If the random generator kicks out rare stars, rare planets, and rare habitable - you've got very little chance of getting this strategy to work. However, Mumble made me curious, and you CAN get this to work with as little as 200 planets on a medium sized m

What happens if you attack an enemy fleet and you kill all their ships within the firast round of attack? Then ALL of the enemy ships get one round to fire back at you to. The "surviving with one hp" is the result if both fleets simultaneously destroy each other in the same round. What exactly does First Strike do? First Strike is the Arcean Super Ability which changes this rule. Any time an Arcean fleet at

This should allow for some nice first-round fleet combat victories where my opponent never gets to fire a shot Actually, only the Arceans get a first strike ability where the enemy doesn't get to return fire. That would be a good setup to take with the Arceans though, who really do excel the more speed you give them. That is a fine setup. You should do well in the anomaly/colony rush with the added speed, your weapons will perform well wh

Personally, I have played with every bonus at one point or another. I choose my bonuses very carefully, as they typically end up defining my play style. However some bonuses are clearly worse than others - so in a sense when you pick your bonuses you are also choosing your difficulty level. Remember, a lot will depend on the type of game you want to play, and even in DA with a custom race it is not really possible to get all of the best bonuses. Here is how I would (roughly speaking) rank th

This AAR might help to illustrate what you are looking for: Altarian Rebellion AAR I don't discuss all economy in that post, as I mostly play on smaller maps where that strategy is less workable. I'll defer to mumble on explaining all economy. Hope that helps, - Wyndstar

Question about morale buildings, how would you like the behavior changed? This is something that could be addressed in 1.7. Thanks for asking. Mumblefratz lays it out pretty well. And if you have the time, hopefully my The Death of Morale Buildings thread helps a little to understand the problem. Several things conspire under the current system: 1) Money (bcs) are the mo

Once you get really good at it, a technology victory is the easiest one in the game by far. I can consistently get one between year 0 and year 1 (11-17 game months) depending on the bonus tiles I get on my home planet. Just build all labs, and never stop researching the research line (and I mean NEVER, stay on that one only) - and then explore/trade and use diplomacy to get money. Even the most warlike races will have barely built their first starships at the point where you have won the game

Well, thanks for the nod in your post. I agree with much of what you have said, but as you mentioned it was my own research along with several others that led me to the conclusions. Like Purge, I'm very familiar with the current system and how to manipulate it for maximum advantage. Almost none of what I do in a game at this point is an "intuitive" approach. From defending planets with tiny hulls with no weapons, to building all of one kind of building, to ignoring morale completely,

Wow. Can't wait. Looks like I need to plan another vacation in December... It's hard to know what I think is better. The Metaverse Tournaments immediately come to mind. But the race specific upgrades/weapons/tech trees are probably going to add the most depth in the long run. Does this mean the leasing and constructor updates are going to wait until the expansion? Not that its a problem either way, I'm just curious. I really dont like t

Wynd who? where ya been? still in court I guess. Ha ha. Yeah, well, I've just been spending more time with the people in my life than the machines in my life. That means less game playing. It happens. I still stop by the message boards, I just have seen little I need to comment on. The coming expansion, however, means that I'm already turning down December invitations abroad. Something tells me I'm going to be spending more time with my

Yeah, the maximum morale bonus you can use is effected by your population size per planet. At populations at and over 25 billion you can utilize a +1000% morale bonus from resources/buildings/wonders/research. I doubt anyone has ever gotten a +1000% bonus. For some numbers, see my post The Death of Morale Buildings and for a more detailed breakdown of how we figured out the numbers see Iztok's <a href="h

If I wasnt posting scores to the metaverse I would almost never go for a conquest victory. Well, and there you have it. It is the slowest, but it is worth the most points, and once you have won is no more difficult to get than any other type of victory. When I play offline games, usually to try strange/ridiculous new strategies, I will never take a game to the end. Once you have 51%+ of the total planets on any size map, you have won for sur

Just to put a few more number behind my point above: Estimates say that there are somewhere between 5 and 10 million so called "top end" or "gamer" pcs that have near the top in what is possible for a home computer. There are also, conservatively, at least 200 million pcs still in use with not top end hardward... although some believe worldwide that number is closer to 500 million older (non-"top end") pcs still in use. Most companies make games that try and cater to t

This is a great topic! Personally, I think there is more going on than piracy vs. quality. But if those are the two options I go with quality being the engine behind the decline in PC game sales. According to projections money spent on electronic entertainment is still projected to rise for the foreseeable future. The depressing part is when you start to look at the PC

but it does seem that there is an on going 'bug' as it can happen at higher difficulty levels. Only if you use Ctrl-N to restart a galaxy. IMO this is not a bug, but a perfectly fine penalty for constant restarting But in all seriousness... What happens is no matter the difficulty level you set, sometimes on a Ctrl-N all AIs are set to drooling fools - c

A fairly simple way to add much more strategy into warfare: terminate battles at a relatively low number of rounds (for example, ten) and then let the remaining ships live, meaning that it could take several moves to take out an enemy fleet, but considerably less to momentarily cripple it and force a retreat. Here here. I approve. But the tie rule(s) has been on my gripe list for a while now... ~ Wyndstar

Tactical combat will just give players yet another advantage over the AI. The AI doesn't really need any more disadvantages than it already has. I know many players love this (I enjoy it as well) - and I won't complain if its in GalCiv 3. But I won't complain if its not their either. ~ Wyndstar

All-tech and all-industry--should it remain in game? Yes. This strat can crash your economy even quicker and more thoroughly than #2 above. No kidding. The economy side is what keeps these strategies balanced. They keep lowering and lowering the amount of money you make in each patch, why target such a difficult and expensive strategy? It's an game mechanic exploit pure a
