Man, its a plot! Running elections while I am out of commission I would love to join the MVC, but I'm not sure I should run given that a) I'm away at trial currently and b) I never know when another trial will pop up on the horizon. You lost a councilor to a Beta Test, I'm not sure my presence would be much better. When I'm around and have time, I will always do anything I can to help support t

Well, first off, thanks to everyone who participated in this tournament in May. The results are in, and just like in my first tournament, the Krynn have won, barely beating out the Korath. Guess that super spy ability is better than we thought The Krynn, Korath and Thalans made up the top three. All are amoung my four favorite races, so it was nice to see them doing well. The
Looks like its going to be a tight finish...
Well there is of course the other option which is to use a balanced approach. If you have nearly the same pp/rp capacity on all worlds then you can put the slider where you want it and still be efficient with what you have. Probably this is also more in line with what a standard economy can support. In this case, you end up with roughly 3 factories per 2 labs at similar tech levels. The balanced approach will produce significantly less. Lets take
Ok battlefield generals, there are less than 48 hours left. Nows the time for that final push for your favorite race. Good luck out there!
Thanks for the submissions guys. I'll update when I have more time. Looks like the Thalans are going to be in the top three. Just one week left. Time for the final push for your favorite race. Shameless bump
Hello all, stopping in for my weekly visit. I'm a bit annoyed right now, and I wanted to rant for a bit on strategy choices. If that is not your thing, I suggest you move on to a more friendly topic, there are plenty of great discussions going on here. The crux of my ire revolves around reactions regarding the strategy I described where you use all factories or all labs on all of your planets to maximize your production per turn. I'm sorry many of you see it as an exploit. If Mr. Wa
Updated. For those keeping score at home, here is how the races are ordered as of right now: 1. Krynn 2. Torian 3. Korath 4. Thalan 5. Custom 6. Yor 7. Drath 8. Terran 9. Iconian 10. Drengin 11. Arcean 12. Altarian I can't say that any of the top 5-6 are all that much of a surprise. I'm a little shocked the Altarians are doing so poorly, I would have thought the economy and morale bonuses alone would have given them more
He choose not to submit that game, but is working on another. And he hasn't said for what race it is for. I'm so curious.
Grats DoJ, I hope to fight you for the top spot when I return. Of course, given the current scoring exploit, and the number of games I've submitted, it might not be possible. As long as everyone is having fun out there. Edit - *poofs*
Hey all, thanks for the submissions. I'm in my car, so am not going to update this right now. Probably later this week/weekend. A quick look over the scores, the top three and bottom one aren't changing, but the Yor and Thalans are gaining ground. And I KNOW Dog of Justice could really put the Krynn in a comfortable spot if he so choose. But what is Purge doing? To which race will his undoubted 600k score go? Anything could still happen. Hope you are having fun out there.
Good job Iztok. After that it adds to the new amount all bonuses the planet and race has in that field. Don't anyone let this one slip by you. I often use this rule. If I KNOW I'll be going all factories before I start a game, I'll go for a big racial research buff to counteract my lack of labs, or vice versa. You'd be surprised what a difference +60% racial research makes when you only build factories, for instance. So much fun breaking
I have billable hours, but am basically my own boss. But I cruise by the forums while in my office, or like now, on my laptop while driving between locations. I just don't bill clients for that time. Could I be more productive doing something else? Maybe. It's ok though, the boss knows what I'm up to, and isn't inclined to fire me - Edit: He IS thinking about forcing me into early retirement
Sigh. Nice catch. Personally, I vote no to spending $$ on fixing this. There are plenty of other improvements that will be noticed more. Changing starbase upgrading micro management, fixing defense/combat, adjusting trade, improved AI, etc. etc. will all matter for all the times that you are not saving and loading. I'm biased, I play games in a few hours, this bug doesn't effect me. However, I think there are other players like me that this either doesn't effect or who aren't going
By sending single ship you'll probably "kill" with it ~1.5 ship of theirs As always Iztok, love your work. I use the huge hull all weapons tactic constantly in the endgame, and you will do better than 1.5 kills with each ship, IME. Say your average engame ship has about 800 attack for the player (varies between 500 and 1k, depending on military starbases, etc.) - that is about 400 pts of damage. About the best huge hull I've seen the AI use has around
Thanks all.
The AI will get the upper hand??? NO. They have advantages but if the AI gets the upper hand it's because you were outplayed, many players defeat 9 civ's on suicidal within 6 to 7 years. Well said Neilo. I would agree with Purge, the number of years is a function of your skill and map size. Ctrl-Ning aside, once you get to the top difficulty levels, luck ceases to be a factor. You need to know what you want, and figure out how to get there. Good
I couldn't believe it was this hard when you made it sound like it was pretty easy early. I'm sorry if I made this seem easy. It is easier with practice. I almost lost this game several times, and just barely skated through the early game. This could have easily been a loss. Money is your biggest problem with this, but you need to think of your empire like a giant cruise ship. You need to know where it is going long before it gets there, and it turns
My real question, and I guess it goes more to Mascrinthus or Iztok, but anyone can answer. Does either of these strategies really hurt the game that much? - They take a huge amount of money to maintain - They are difficult to use and take practice - Using either of these strategies requires planning. You can't get desperate and go 100% military with all labs, or 100% research with all factories, if you get in a war and need tech or ships. You need to know many turns ahead of
Updated. No change in the top three or the bottom race still, but there is still a lot of time to go. Sorry I'm updating this a little slower. But don't let that stop you! The tournament is still in full swing. Keep those fires burning throughout the galaxy. Good luck.
I will be updating the tournament page, just only once a week or so. Good luck all.
Hey fellow empire mates, emperor Atticus, et. all. Sadly, I must depart for several months for a trial. Its been great fun representing this empire. Hopefully I can resume my duties, such as they are, when I return. I wish everyone the best of luck. This is a great empire, and it's been great getting to know some of you. Also, here's hoping you guys manage to stay in first place for the next few months so that we are still there when I return. Our Logic is Undeniab
Well hello all. It is with a certain amount of sadness that I must bid all of you a fond farewell, at least for the next couple of months. One of my cases is going to trial, and the last settlement conference didn't produce any movement on either side. It will probably take me 2-3 months minimum to finish (and win) this trial. This is a singularly all consuming task, but it is why I get paid the big bucks (j/k) Anyway, while doing the final discovery, preparing witnesses, an
I actually have to hunt around for a partially built one on the last buy, that will not drive me too low. I hear you on this one Purge. Late game, most of my time in a given turn is spent hunting for a planet with a half built ship, so the cost is more in the 20-30k range to spend off that last bit of money.
