Do you have some other system where that's not relevant? Well, you only need 40% approval to get a population to grow, and actually I believe you really only need 37%. Have I ever mentioned how very exploitable fertility clinics are?? No need to keep morale as high as you suggest... except for the very early game. See here for a more in depth discussion of the current DA

Yeah, the Yor loyalty bonus doesn't really make a practical difference almost ever. If anyone really thinks the Yor are almighty, I suggest you play a few games with them and submit them to the current tournament I'm running here . I'm guessing they won't even be in the top three. <img src="http://altmeta2.thegalacticcore.com/ranksig.php?id=9187&s
And lets not forget, on some maps their ability doesn't help them at all. PLUS one of their only abilities is +% to espionage. That is the only ability in the game that is actually a penalty, because it lowers your control. You don't get bonus espionage spending cheaper, it just makes it so that you can't spend less on espionage if you spend anything. If I have a +30% in espionage, moving the esp. slider one tick FORCES me to spend 1.3% of my economy, rather than 1% of my economy on
Thanks all, updated. I suppose maybe I should go strike first for the Arceans (get it, ha ha) quick. I also started a Korath game last night. Nice to see a variety of entrants, but we have the same three in the top spot still. Good luck all!
Hmmm, well parts of it updated, and parts of it didn't. Is that related to the errors you are getting I wonder? For instance, I recently finished about a half dozen "solar civ" level games. These now show up in my personal graph. However, my solar civ score and rank was not changed. My universal score, however, WAS changed by my new civ entries. It also seems to have updated my military submissions correctly. My number of games was also updated correctly. Again, I
Well, hope the move won't be too hard on you. You are basically providing we metaverse players with a cool new toy for free. Thanks for letting us know an update on what is going on though. I appreciate it.
I'm not suggesting that anyone is being a pest or is impatient Actually, I'm starting to get impatient. The new Beta is really cool, but it hasn't updated once since it was revealed. Hard to know how you are doing in the different catagories when all we have is a snapshot from the end of April. I see the potential it has though.
If you are only at warm, you actually have two steps to go. There are a lot of things that can get your relationships closer: Higher diplomacy Trade routes Sending treaties Higher military rating Ethical alignment the same Give gifts to get to "Friendly" Pay Tributes when demanded Also, avoid the negatives - Alarming influence Close borders "We know what your doing" (from doing something threatening, usually with combat ships)
Drengin overpowered? No. They are OK with a blitz very early, and might knock out one or two people right away, but then they are done. Indeed, I would put them in the bottom half of all the stock races. When they develop worlds, they don't design them to support strong populations. They focus on splitting their tiles between factories and labs, and they often lead to money problems. Worse, their super ability quickly turns into a we
Yor score has been added. Ha ha ha. I was wondering when the Yor were going to start making a showing. So many people think they are a strong race... lets see if their scores can actually bear that out. So far, we have: #1 Drath #2 Yor #3 Terran and everyone else. Updated.
Alright, first blood for the Torians. Updated.
Updated. If it makes you feel any better, I shouldn't be up this late updating the tourny page.
If worse comes to worse, no one's twisting your arm behind your back forcing you to play using the Iconians Oh, exactly. I play with them to increase the difficulty. I almost never play with them though, because I'm not good enough to win at that higher difficulty. Feel free to play or not with them. But when you do, you are basically playing a harder game. There are obviously differing opinions about whether the different races being balanc
Is there any penalty to my social score if I do the economically logical thing of raising taxes to send my approval down to ~21%? I've been doing exactly this for about the last month, and if it lowers my social component, it is not by enough, because it will raise my economy and military compnents by more than the social score hit, if any. It is hard to identify the scoring formula with certainty, although I have been working on it for some tim
I use the MCC religiously and have never once flipped a planet after building it Yeah, I see other vetran players say this all the time. Something is up, and I don't know what it is. I still flip after I build the MCC all the time, in fact more than I want to. I'm really quite sure that my score goes up for every planet I take by invasion, vs. flipping (Run a simple test - disable influence victory, put everything to rare on a tiny map with one en
and if you return to the planet to load population you can then only do the usual lower right launch. Actually, not so. In DA, you can choose any adjacent square to be the launch square for a planet, on a per planet basis. You can even change launch directions several times within one turn. This tactic has many uses.
And don't forget the popular MCC, which many people report noticing a real hinderance to their flipping ability. So you can invade faster, steal tech while doing, AND get an extra 100% to your economy. Oh, and by the way, military victories will score you 5 times more points than influence victories?? And the advantages of flipping are.... a few free extra people? "Roleplaying"? You can stay at peace (probably the best one). In short, not much. The choice is clear.
Well, I didn't get much sleep last night, but I did manage to finish another game. Which matters more in the long run, right? In this case, I don't like the new Drath bonuses as much, so I played with the classic Drath. Remember, the tournament is as open to DL as to DA. And now we have a new temporary leader <img src="http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n104/cjmosbo/BRTourn6.jp
Wow! I said that some of the abilities are garbage - as in, they're there for the numbers alone. I didn't classify the setting you mentioned as garbage. it uses the crappiest abilities, but that was the point. OK, I will say it. It isn't just the worst abilities, it is the worst race, the worst alignment. Heck, take the mercantile political party to try and go for a clean sweep. If eve
A large part of the problems you point out could be dramatically improved by the posters themselves. Sometimes. Sometimes posts are obscure just because the conversation changes over time, and how a thread starts is not how it finishes. We were guilty of this, for instance, in NLC's and Industrial Sectors broke my economy . To really understand what the threads are about,
If you want to be a military empire, +30% influence doesn't help as much as a speed bonus perhaps, but it can help a lot if you are not looking to invade. But a speed bonus will be also very helpful (if not more, colonization phase) than an influence bonus (which you can get later on with research) even if playing an influence game. Not necessarily either. I recently played a couple of games where I was trying to win with an influence victory o
Why? If they were balanced, wouldn't it be more interesting? Being unbalanced means that there is more of a challenge to try and win with those abilities/tactics/races. There are are some races and abilities that just dominate and are easy to win with. If everything was balanced, everything would be easy to win with. For instance, I wish I was good enough to win with the Iconanian scenario I described above. It is total "garbage", as you wou
Oh, well I agree the game is not balanced, that is not everything is of equal value of power. The races are not balanced, the alignments are not balanced, the ability point powers are not balanced, the super abilities are not balanced - heck, even the different AI approaches are not balanced. Some things are just plain better than others. However, I think the lack of balance leads to variety. Some things I wish were more balanced than they are - alignments for instance, while some th
Oh, my PREFERENCE is that you only post games started after the deadline. That is a limit I impose on myself. But as I have no way of enforcing it, I leave it up to the individuals player's choice what they think is fair. Edit - by after the deadline, I mean after the start day of the tournament. Double Edit - and I have heard from people that the games they play can take months. I only run tournaments for one month, so that a limitation on start date might exclude some play
Fair enough, trading the +2 sensor range (which might help with the colony rush) for a +40% repair rate would almost certainly be even harder. Has anyone ever managed to do this? Suicidal Iconians Good Alignment w/ Creativity, Courage, +1 Trade route, +40% repair rate? If you can do it, my hat is off to you, you are a much better player than me. I've tried my reply#12 setup four times now and got creamed every time. Does anyone think there is a worse comb
