And... To finish off my sweep of the non-military victories, an alliance win. I decided to use the Krynn because they won the last tournament I ran, so they deserve some extra play. Next up, a few military victories... Good luck! Still a month to go, and I don't think I played with any of the races that will end up in the lead. But you never know. <a href="http://altmeta2.the

Whew, remembered to turn on all victory types this time. I didn't realize no stock race got any influence bonuses, I was a little bummed. So, decided to give a little love to the Korx. Here is another one: You accomplished a tech victory in a tiny map in 1 year!! It takes me pretty much 9 yrs for any victory. I applaud you. Tech victories are IMO the easies

Heh. And another one. Sadly, I was going for an alliance victory, only to realize after I got it that I had accidentally disabled alliance and influence victories. I'll admit, the AltMetaBeta has me wondering how hard it would really be to get to the top of all of those civ catagories as well. Hmmmm. Anyway, the Terrans now have taken a shot as well: Good luck all! <a href=

And again, just for fun I will get things started with a pretty small submission. PlayJeff45 - I have probably played too many games. Remember, alliances don't matter with the altarians, it is who shares your alignment. Anyway, here is a quick start to the tournament: Good luck out there! <img src="http://altme

I still think a bit more notice on the start of a tournament would be a good idea. Yeah, I thought about doing this again, and again decided against it. The reason I don't is because I don't want people saving up four or five games with the race they want, and then flooding a bunch of submissions right at the start to unbalance things. Why crush the spirit of the other side right off the bat? I may be relying on false assumptions. Basically,

Also I want to apologize to Wyndstar for using him as an example. He does make a good one because he has a large number of games and a nice variation of sizes and victory conditions. In fact Wyndstar's chart (as of a couple of weeks ago) is used as the example throughout the AltMeta Data Chart for exactly this reason. Thanks for being a good sport. No apology necessary. I'm flattered. Your data breakdown is interesting. I just don't have the t

Battle Royale Tournament For the rest of May I'm running an unofficial tournament. All players who own Dread Lords or Dark Avatar are welcome and encouraged to participate. The Scene Conflict dominates the universe. More than a dozen unique races strive to conquer galaxy after galaxy; through war, diplomacy, culture and technology. In any given arena, one race might dominate and claim a system. But there are trillions of star systems.

And the Krynn win. I'm a little surprised there weren't more submissions near the end of the war. I hope everyone who played had fun. I greatly enjoy playing with both of these races. Good luck in your future conquests!

Wyndstar, when I view your posts, with the metaverse boxes at the bottom saying Krynn vs. Korath, I'm assuming they're supposed to be showing the updated scores. No, sorry, they are just links to the AltMeta. Kryo put in code to paste these banners to the bottom of your post. I decided that rather than doing a random one, I would post a banner that represented what this tournament was all about... Krynn v. Korath. The links do take you to my personal

Just a thought: I have no proof either way, and I don't disbelieve any of you that the MCC stops your flipping efforts. However, I get frustrated when I accidentally flip planets, so I hate the fact that planets keep flipping after I build the MCC. BUT, I'm probably playing the game different than most people. I actively work to supress my own influence, and increase the AIs. It sounds to me like people who try and *increase* their influence have the most problems.

But I often have alien AI controled planets in my spehere of influence that have pirate flags flying for as long as one year Well, sure. I've had pirate flag planets sit there for close to four years before they flip. But they do eventually. How long does it normally take? I never flip enemy planets that quickly except in the early game when populations are all small. Once enemy populations are in the 12b+ range, they just don't go. Of course, I do

Remember, the base colony can produce 24 of everything. I have had bank worlds, for instance, where I never built a research building, but built a research coordination center. While that might be less of an increase in TOTAL rp produced at the planet, I still see an increase, and the increased production is only half cost. I don't necessarily do this often, it depends on my cash situation and the tiles on the planet, etc. But it is a workable strategy. The fusion power plant is a l

.......I'm not completely retarded, but i guess there are limitations because diplomatic relations doesnt come after universal translator...so i guess ill never trade If you are in the campaign, it might be temporarily locked out for a few scenarios, as Iztok said. If you are not in the campaign, please realize that diplomatic relations is actually a branch that appears on a lower yellow colored tree. Universal translators goes to interstellar governme

AFAIK in Dark Avatar, the diplomacy contact limits prevent you from immediately breaking treaties. I hate to disagree with an Avatar, but the diplomacy contact limit does not prevent you from breaking peace treaties. You don't need to talk to someone to attack on the next turn, you just take an aggressive action (invade or destroy a ship). In fact, not any kind of treaties - if you sell a research treaty and then attack on the next turn, it is gone as

Planets can flip when you have the MCC. They do for me almost every game I play evil. Does it make it harder to flip the enemy? Maybe. I don't have the formula down to know how long it *should* take to be able to measure if there is an appreciable difference with the MCC up. My guess, is any effect has to do with a higher tax rate. The happier and more populous your people are, the quicker other planets will flip to you. After I build the MCC I usually jack taxes, lowering approva

To get trade you need: Xeno Communication >> Universal Translator >> Diplomatic Relations >> Trade You can start to access the diplomacy screen after you research Universal Translator. You can start to build freighters after you research Trade. Some races already start with a few of these techs, so just start at whatever point in this path that you need to. Hope that helps. <img src="

Incidentally there's no trading AI to overhaul Which probably is the problem right there. I also agree, I don't think trading is that bad, and the 1.5x3 patch made the AI a little tougher to beat. I do think trading is one of the biggest AI holes, although probably not fair to attribute it to the AI. But, to be fair, even as one of the biggest holes it isn't that big at the top levels, and I'm becoming a fanboy, I just love everything abou

I have several more planned. The next one is already designed, and will start on May 1st, after this one has concluded. I will start to advertise the next one about a week before I start it. The Krynn say: All your base are belong to us....Ok maybe not. Shouldn't that be "All Yor base are belong to us..." Ha ha ha. Ho. Hum. Sigh. I kill me Upd

I agree that it makes more sense for Good to have the best economic long game, though. Just giving Good something like a +100% Economy building and taking it away from Evil would go a long way to repairing the strategic imbalance between the alignments. OH, yeah! I like that. Evil still gets artificial slave center, but you are taking all of those penalties with good ethical choices because you know a juicy +100% economy waits for you down the road.

Well, I'd love an official tournament too. As it is, I'm doing the best I can under the situation. You might want to make a suggestion to the Metaverse Council, and see if you can get them to approach Stardock with an official request.

96 Replies 44,437 Views

I hope its a feature And I do think it isn't necessarily unbalancing. You need to research two more techs beyond Xeno Ethics to get to it, and it is an expensive building. On small maps with few planets, the time and cost to get it barely pays off (I once rushed to get it and watched my 118 taxes per turn double to 236, and then my entire economy crashed). There is still a balance to using it.<
