I dusted off 'Warzone 2100' a while back. It's an old games (Win 98), but still enjoyable many years later. The graphics are a bit dated, but gameplay - the important thing - is still absorbing & challenging
That's another game that has gone into open source, with updated graphics that look much better than the original.
I still play X-Com:UFODefense and even in a DosBox mode within Vista on a DualCore CPU and that title is from the mid 90's! Wow, I just downloaded x-com again, but couldn't get a grip on dosbox. Try Jagged Alliance 2 if you haven't.
Also, consider trying the open source alternative to X-Com: UFO Alien Invasion. It is based upon X-Com with upated graphics and is available for free at http://www.http://ufoai.sourceforge.net. Pretty cool.

What game are you playing? Dread Lords, or one of the expansions? I'm not sure that the assassination happens in TA with the Mega Events toggled off. Does it? It happens all of the time in Dread Lords though.
I was playing GalCiv 2 Dread Lord and the game crashed completely once and then freaked out and almost crashed again. It's definitely unstable. Here is the debug file. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks Debug Message: Version v1.53 last updated on: Tue Nov 4 11:55:35 2008 Debug Message: Checking DX Version.
And a recommended 512MB of ram is really not enough. You will be into virtual memory before the game even loads (even with the smallest map). As for the memory, more is better. In your case, you have the minimum recommended - which is enough to play the game, but far less than playing the game at a fast speed.
Agreed. IMO 1 GB should be the minimum requirement. That's what I have and it still uses quite a bit of virtual memory. I can't imagine trying to play wit

It was originally posted 6 months ago, and he may have already chosen an AV solution. Meanwhile, I, who already had AV software I like, am reading about microwaves and refrigerators.

I was playing an awesome game in TA... I had the most powerful empire, and was allied with the 2nd most powerful Arceans. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, came this porcupine-looking Yor ship that started ripping my planentary fleets to pieces. I said to myself, "What's that thing?" It was a Precursor Ranger with 150 Hit Points. So I created a fleet of battleships with about 350 combined Hit Points and attacked the planet where the Ranger was based. It decimated my fleet. In fact it de
Try...disabling Allow Mixed Vertex Processing Mode.
I'm not sure about the Allow Mixed Vertex Processing Mode setting...it seemed to slow my system down. I would recommend turning the stars and nebula density to zero. That seems to make my machine run smoother. Also, shutting off my AV software and using SmartClose to close all unnecessary background processes seems to help as well. Unfortunately, with your specs (which are similar to mine), I think you
I would argue that the prices have dropped substantially. As an early adopter to Dread Lords and the two expansions, I spent $100 total. Now the whole bundle is less than half of that, and worth every penny IMO.
I would like to see an easier way to decomission a fleet of ships...simultaneously rather than one at a time. Also, it would be great if several ships could be selected and launched from a planet simultaneously.
Games are like music or art. Truly good ones have a much longer life than those that are mediocre. I still play some DOS games from the mid-90s (Caesar II and Conquest of the New World) using DOSBox. As Serik55 mentioned, SimCity 4 is still a great game, and it will be 6 years old this year. Starcraft is a game that is about 10 years old and I still see it for sale in retail outlets.
Sorry, double post...
I have thought of another feature I would like to see in GC3: Easier management of unit/ship stacks. For instance, when decommissioning ships in a stack one should be able to decommission the entire stack simultaneously. (If there is already a way to do this I'd love to know how). Also, when launching ships from a planet, it would be cool if you could select several at once and launch them all together, rather than one at a time.
