Yes I was talking about color depth setting. Wasn't sure what Windows you had and if others than XP have other settings besides 16 and 32bit. Reason for this is that I have my laptop which I use both in work and home, in office I have second monitor (well today got my home monitor back too) and for that reason my computer has used 1 or 2 monitors depending where I am. In both configurations my screen 1 which is always laptops LCD can run 1400x1050 but in 2 screen configuration it can on

I have laptop (IBM T23) with 14" monitor and 1400x1050 resolution and GalCiv fits in perfectly. I always play it in windowed mode so can check things while playing... and using full mode doesn't give any benefits (no bigger map or anything) just scales graphics. But if your laptops has exactly same resolution as GalCiv you should use it. That should give you best quality. But how many colors your laptop can show on that higher resolution? It could be that your graphics card can
Hi, After Stardock central wanted to update itself this week it haven't worked correctly. Now it always starts to middle of screen and size is always same, previously it started in place and size it was when I closed it last time. Is this just me and if why, or is this commonly known and if is it going to be fixed? ~SDC~
Well from people I know who have tried GalCiv 100% ask for bigger main map. It can be done by either using zoom or increasing screen area used for it. On forum I have started thinking me and my friends are not only one. Pretty much everyone want bigger map area shown. Everytime someone mentions zoom and main map in same post at least one person says it is his number 1 wish too. And there are 2 ways to do it. 1) zoom, propably require different graphics for ships etc. 2) r
That reason is no good. I have mentioned this in other thread earlier but GalCiv could use same method as The Operational Art of War does. Think about windowed version. Would it be good if you could resize window to bigger and while doing this it would use extra space to show bigger area of map. UI components would be exactly same size, perhaps would get extra empty space in corner due to extra room. Ship graphics would stay exactly same, just could show more of main
They are also faster. In my last game most of my attack fleet was Rangers, then had few that were on autoattack just in case enemy tried to move something on my territory. Then had Dreadnoughts (and Rangers) in hot spots. And some Battlehammers (and Dreadnoughts) on planets. ~SDC~
Sure I have allied when been bad. Actually in my last game I was demonic, as all corporate leaders should be :P , and had 2 big allies (Drengin and Altarians, which I believe both were neutral) and Arceans (evil) could have been my ally if they wouldn't have been in war with Drengin. In end got into problem with Drengin only because they got into war with Altarians, I think it was through their alliances. Sure Yor (saintly) didn't like me that much but they only reacted when I built cul
In my few games I get many enemy planets peacefully because my influence. In my last game first lost 2 to Altarians but later got them and few extra back. I have only finished 2 games on gigantic map and first was pure cultural victory, second would have been cultural victory but I was so close to research victory so I just declared war on Yor ...who earlier had declared war to me when I installed 1 cultural module to starbase close to their planets. But unfortunately I think Yor surre
That is good idea. Even when I think all you need are 2 levels. 1) advantages/bonuses etc. AI gets 2) AI brainpower I haven't yet played against AI on hardest level, but still would like to see AI do its best in starbase management etc. ~SDC~
Oops. You are right, Amazon doesn't ship toys, games and video games abroad. Only to US, US protectorates and APO/FPO addresses (what are APO/FPO?). I have only ordered books from them. But Stardock still accepts your check/money order. If you buy download it is "just" 45$, if need disc too then add 10$ for shipping ...and possibly more if your customs want their share. Don't know how much check/money order cost in Czech but I doubt it will double the price ...but I know such ancient me
If you can buy game from US for 35$ then what is problem? Amazon has it for 39.99% + 4.49$ for shipping which is 10.5$ cheaper than from Stardock. But as you can see you don't need credit card to buy it from net. I have to say that I wouldn't sell serial to stranger who would pay afterward, not real safe way to do business. ~SDC~
No printed manual. I just purchased download. I know those limits but it would be nice to see what PQ14 for example was compared to. ~SDC~
Where are these PQ descriptions, because I can't find anything from PDF manual. I remember seeing them somewhere but when talked to my friend who tried game I couldn't find any description about PQ values. ~SDC~
I was thinking just showing fow status for sector, just like it is now. But have 3 different states. Totally unexplored sector. Current implementation. Or some new color. Partly explored sector. New background color. Explored sector. Current implementation. I would think that would be fastest and easiest way. I would think that because sector is actually quite small area it wouldn't be interesting which part of sector is actually unexplored, just would need to know wha
Would it be possible to show 3 levels of exploration status? In addition to current unexplored and explored it would have partly explored. That shouldn't be too hard and would help locating unexplored areas. ~SDC~
It's not the placemnent that's the problem, it's resizing the graphics when they're displayed. Either they would have to pre-render the graphics in every resolution they're going to support, which would require several times the 350MB already used by multimedia, or they would have to be resized and/or rendered on-the-fly, which would require compute-time resources.
Or use same graphics elements but just increase map area shown. The Operational Art of War did exa
It is F9 and I know that. But unfortunately it is no good. a) There is ship ...umm, what kind ship? b) There is planet ...umm, what level planet? c) OK, I want to move that ..triange.. to there. Umm, can't select here. F9, select ship, F9, go there. d) Lets explore ...umm, where to go? If I could select ships and tell what type of ships they are from (almost) max zoomed F9 mode I would play using only that. But I just hate having to press F9 all the time to
Small map shows unexplored areas, but in very stupid way. If any part of sector is explored whole sectors shows as explored. On gigantic map there can easily be big unexplored areas that are 1.998 sectors wide because some ship explored 0.001 from edge. Then just have to go through your space to check if there are such things, and of course without zoom it is not nice... ~SDC~
I really can't think any other problem besides ships beeing too small to see if try to show bigger map area in same sized window. That is why I am giving idea that does not require new smaller graphics or anything. For anyone who plays game in windowed mode graphics wouldn't be too small or anything, game window would just get bigger or turn back to fullscreen mode. Of course this wouldn't give too much extra space, but at least in my case (1400x1050) propably enough to see at least one
Not going to hold my breath while waiting for it ;) But it would be cool, I always wonder why FPSs have modded bots but still haven't seen any strategy game with such things. ~SDC~
It depends. In my work I have used very complex frameworks without knowing anything about their source, all you need is interface definitions. It could be done from two directions. a) Hide low level stuff and give needed interfaces to mod AI "personality" b) Give interfaces you must implement and how to put your low level module into custom AI. For example your module could be asked what is danger level on some sector etc. ~SDC~
I have been thinking this for several games I have played. And because some post by someone at Stardock (I think) mentioned that AI code was object oriented and I understood that different races have different AI code, but that they use some common objects. So was wondering if it would be possible to make interface other people could use to create new AIs for this game? Many FPSs have bots and this game has good modding possibility and I think it would be great if there would be possibi
Hi, I was wondering, and first just going to ask, if Stardock is going to put zoom option to main map. That feature is very much needed in this game. Of course if such thing is planned I would be very happy to find out :) But after discussing this with my friend yesterday I thought if this could be quickly helped by doing same way as in The Operational Art of War. Idea is that if you have bigger resolution you could use it and just show bigger area of map. Interface i
All I can say is zoom, zoom, zoom, zoom and once more zoom. Two of my friends who tried game complained quite heavily that there is no zoom. And even if there wasn't zoom it would make sense to have default view on main map show little bigger area, i end game ships can fly out of view quite easily on one turn. Also mine biggest complain is that there is no zoom. I need to have better overal picture (and be able to actually play in that view) or game turns into mindles clicking
Would it be possible to limit area ships work? In one of my game I put my ship into autoattack on area enemy seemed to move quite many non-combat ships. But first thing this ship did was head to nearest current enemy battleship spotted ...pretty far away from intended area. I would like to setup patrol zones where ships attack enemies. Like sector sweep (but bigger because single sector really is too small for that feature) combined with auto attack (inside patrol area). <b
