Hmm - learning quite a bit from this. Think I will have to change my approach to my custom sovereign. I've been buffing up the stats and ignoring the spell books.

Not sure from your description why your army is mostly peasants... You should have some pretty powerful units by this point. Are you not designing new units as you research better equipment? Sometimes there isn't a Horse resource (stables) in a game - they seem very rare.

I go with speed rather than leg armor - extra movement is always useful, even when not in combat, whereas leg armor makes a minimal difference only in combat.

Agreed that the pathing seems wonky - my units definitely aren't calculating the most efficient path to somewhere correctly. Sometimes it looks like they go out of their way to go through a forest even though there's a clear path right beside. I find that I end up babysitting my units by moving them manually if I need to make sure they get somewhere as fast as possible - obviously not ideal.

As someone who started playing last week it was definitely pretty baffling and cryptic the first time around. But baffling because of the weird UI and lack of good feedback from the game, not really the difficulty. The AI seems pretty damn passive on lower levels and only intermittently agressive on challenging - abandoned that game as it was getting too easy. Just starting a game on hard so definitely not an expert yet at this. Not trying to put anyone else down - just that's

Lost libraries aren't lost in my games, but horses usually are - saw my first one in my just started game and was surprised - didn't even know such a thing existed!

Game hardly ever (only once) crashes for me and my system is not top of the line, that's for sure (business laptop). So that's good. The AI seems a little schizophrenic - Yithril declared war and then waited 50 turns to do anything - but then brought a substantial force against my nearest city. They still lost but it was a good attempt. Problem for them was then their nearest city was lightly defended so I was able to take it. This was on challenging. Will move to to greater difficulty once I

Sir_Linque, I don't mean to dump on game reviewers - it's tough to hit all the right points about a game, and give a sense of what the game is to people unfamilar with it and also not annoy the hard-corers who know the genre backwards and forwards. I was in publishing for years, so I understand deadline pressure. But would I like to see is initial reviews clearly indicated as such, with the biases as austinvn mentions. And then a more detailed review - an actual "review"! - once someo

I don't pay much attention to numeric ratings because certain gamer sites seem to always rate high. And each site has a different weighting for what makes up the final/average rating. So there's really no consistency - so even using Metacritic you're still comparing apples to oranges to pomengranates. And it's always the first release that gets reviewed. It would almost be better to have reviews done on the final patched version - but that will never happen cause then of course the whole
maybe the developer can make it in 3D and also make the graphics better
The developer (Codeforce) is focusing more on automation/UI fixes from what I can tell. Doesn't sound like they have plans to go 3D. To be honest, that wouldn't be a factor for me one way or the other.
secondly, the AI Sovereign should really never leave their territory during war, it makes them just way too vulnerable.
Saw this in my game last night. I had an army close to their capital and the enemy sovereign waltzes out past me like he's taking his daily exercise. By himself! While back in his city there's around 6 soldiers properly defending. I almost didn't attack him just because I felt bad picking on him - but then I did. Also noticed the lack of agress

Agreed it doesn't have the depth of the Paradox titles - for example, if you like HOI3 you'll find this way too light. Big fan of EU3 myself but couldn't hack HOI3. But I personally like playing a mix of games - for 4X strategy Distant Worlds is doing it now, Elemental for fantasy turn-based, and the iPad for those really mindless moments. Except shooters - too old and slow I guess for click-fests.
The problem with the SD staff participating in the forums is that they get all emotionally and mentally wrapped up in saying the right things on the forums when really their mind should be actually improving the game.
Don't follow your logic here. I think reading & posting on a game forum dedicated to the game you are working on would actually keep your mind on improving the game. It's not like we're getting PR shills fr
I like galciv2. But I think I am liking Distant Worlds a whole lot more.
Agreed - having a great time with Distant Worlds much as I like GC2. So much depth and the private sector makes it feel so alive. And you can control exactly what you want to focus on and intelligently automate the rest. GC2 never had that feeling of the galaxy humming along with its own business.
