I think most have moved from Elemental. I certainly have. As a long-time player of Stardock games, I was quite upset with Elemental and at the time vowed not to play any "version" based on it. I started playing LH a couple weeks ago, based on positive comments in other gaming forums. I haven't been disappointed - it is a very solid and enjoyable fantasy TB strategy game now - lots of depth, atmosphere, good tactical battle system. I'm not surprised, but am very impressed that

I would say yes and no. It is somewhat fun to play right now, but a little bland. But I find myself thinking that Fallen Enchantress will be (or has been promised to be) much better so feel like I should wait for that before investing much more time in Elemental. So that makes Elemental less fun to play now. My 2 cents worth.
That is classic - thanks for sharing!
Interesting discussion. Have to say I disagree with the OP review. I must be in a minority of a minority because I'm a lover of TBS games, particularly space 4x, but actually didn't think MOO2 was the holy grail. It was good, but not amazing. GC2 actually came the closest to me considering it as a great 4x game, but it ultimately became boring - a certain sense of sameness over everything - and I stopped playing it. Can't stand RTS but DW is definitely not a RTS - unless you cons
Large mostly as I like expanding out and creating a bit of an empire before encountering the others. But any larger and it would be too large, if you know what I mean.
Agreed - check the forum regularly even though I'm not playing right now. Like to keep tabs on the development and the frank input and feedback from the devs is much appreciated. And the generally mature level of discussion on the forum by most. Keep it up.
Perhaps you are a bipolar fanboy troll. Don't worry it happens to the best of us.

It's unfortunate that people's negative reaction to a game so often degenerates into personal attacks. Agreed that there's far too much of that against Jon in particular on this forum. I think it comes down to 2 things - first, people get incredibly invested and emotional about PC game, and imbue a much anticipated game with all sorts of wonderful virtues/promises that any game - no matter how wonderful - will have trouble living up to. Obviously Elemental was disappointing and m

Hopefully they will include mod tools allowing us to check what terrain types are within a city's boundaries, and apply bonuses based on that. Ability for custom buildings tied to terrain type, and city-level-up choices tied to terrain type would be a bounty for mod ideas even if SD doesn't want to use it themselves. Mods, schmods. There's a 'silent majority' of unknown
Quoting Campaigner, reply 25 Why can't you just take the time you need and instead cut down on the postsupport? Extending the time is always an option. There are pros and cons to it, and its not as cut and dry as it may appear in my initial post. It isn't like "we are a week behind, we need to cut feature X". A week behind typically means that we need to crunch. It's the fea
No reason that patch notes can't include every change impacting game play. My company does the equivalent for the business application I manage. If it affects the user, or functionality, it goes in.

And that is if you get the game now, understanding it's not 'finished', and wind up being extremely dissatisfied with it in it's current form, will that hurt your appreciation or enjoyment of later iterations? I went through this with Distant Worlds (which is different, but the idea is the same), got it early, thought it would be great, it wasn't.&nbs
There are a few fantasy TBS games for the iPad - most are pretty simple and seem dumbed-down for the touch screen (e.g. Highborn). The best one is definitely Battle for Westnoth, which most of you probably know of for the PC - a great free fantasy TBS with tons of campaigns - very enjoyable. No building, just exploration/capturing/fighting. It's been made into an iPad game - no longer free, around $5 I think - which is actually very good. In fact, it contains more content
I had the same question a few weeks ago and went ahead and bought it. I enjoyed it but I agree with HsojVvad that is a little bland and boring right now. It didn't grab me with the "one more turn" thing a great TBS should have. So I've now shelved it and will give it another try when the expansion ar
Can't believe I didn't notice this thread until now. Looking forward to this, esp. #36 and #44. Those two really bugged me for some reason.
Talking about experience, I think that is not good for the game that all the units of the same group get all the experience after a battle, regardless they haven´t any hit. Yes, it is possible to learn something only watching, but it wouldn´t must be the same that the experience obtained by fighting. I hope that Stardock review this system because it would be very easy to assign exp according to the hits, that are already being co
Birthright: Gorgon's Alliance was a fantasy TBS that had exploration of dungeons etc you could do with your heros. Although Birthright was an interesting fantasy TBS (although buggy), RGP exploring part frankly sucked. Not required to play the game, buggy pathfinding, just badly done all round. A good example of a game that probalby would have been a much better strategy game if the dev resources that had been put into the dungeon crawls had been spent on the strategy game. Instead, i
That's interesting Brad. The challenges you describe are very similar to those encountered in any software development shop that ramps up too quickly with the structure in place. My company went through the same thing about 4 years and put out a buggy version too early (corporate timelines...) that took 3 years to clean up. Lot of restructuring and people changes (some voluntary, some definitely not) was the result.
The game was still a sandbox but managed to impart the world lore feel to the player in remarkably clever ways without needing a campaign to tell the story. Of course SMAC was based on extrapolation and scifi.
The lore, flavour, colour, whatever you like to call it, of SMAC was outstanding. The factions were so distinct that I RPed them differently. Trying to think of another TBS strategy game that had
For the record..I dont own CiV or Elemental..I'm a Galciver who thinks industry reform and the GBoR is important. Shafer is toxic assets because his ACTIONS (since apparently the Stardock plan is to withhold his words from us) showed when GBoR values are on the line he will choose self interest over the consumer. Stardock cant hire a guy like that and still sell the GBoR to the industry with any sort of credibility. Its not about ciV

If that big a radical departure is required in order to make EFE like that then I have no qualms about it being a standalone expansion, Make it so.
Completely agree with these sentiments.
Good thread - glad it got resurrected. Lots of good games listed. Just sticking to Fantasy TBS, I liked Warlords II and HOMM 2 and 3 - lost interest around 4 and 5 didn't like at all. Also big fan of Age of Wonders. AoW and HOMM 2 & 3 swallowed up countless hours of my life back then. Never played the King's Bounty games or Dominions 3 - but may check them out now. Speaking of King of Dragon Pass, never played it, but that reminds of Dragon Pass the boardgame from Ava
That was a fantastic game! Great drama, action and pathos all in one beautifully rendered action RFP. I laughed, I cried, I clicked the space bar strategically. Brilliant!
