@ Mumblefratz , I am honored to have your services to help Adepta Sororitas in anyway.
It's not much to start but you won't be disappointed. However the little I did add should be enough to earn the 3rd place medal once the MV catches up with itself.

Like I said a lot to think about. I'm going to have to cogitate for a bit on all of this. But aside from the longer term development aspect the DL's basically stay out of your way and are a ready source of cash and so the early game simply becomes who can develop their blank slate of a galaxy the quickest with an infusion of free money starting on March 1st. Compared to earlier days this is a highly restrictive way to play. Back in the day one could pursue a high pop strat, a high inc
In all matter having HS or not doesn't hurt the Tiny Hull MSBA approach at all, but with Huge Hulls it surely does.
Because of the per ship depreciation I would expect it matters no matter what you ship size choice as long as your strat includes an upgrade sooner or later. Higher point count per ship is always a good thing and simply minimizes the number of ships that you need to build to reach a particular military ranking. But yeah getting the AI to build a shrinker in many ca
That's one downside but in DA neglectable. You trade a mid-game maxed Mil and an early loss in Econ against even more early advantages in all other fields. Of course not research, but who would want to waste bc's in research if not really necessary?
Not quite. I suspect that you gave up some pop growth with respect to my method. I did end year 0 with a pop of 2.1T. I suspect that your game as impressive as it was still probably did not match this figure (at least by end of year
What about Tiny Hulls?
Sure I use tiny as well but even fewer engines on them. But they're perfect for colonizing the rest of the system once you've already got a toe hold. As far as miniaturization I make expert min a priority because it seems to be highly valued for trade by the AI and of course I want to encourage everyone to build a shrinker. However engine research usually lags. I go to Impulse II early but never seem to have a chance to get back to it, This
Is there a special reason why you go with small hulls? I assume their speed of 5 is base, isn't it?
We're playing an entirely different style of game here. Keep in mind I don't have nearly the ready cash that you have and therefore can't get through the tech tree nearly as fast as you do. I use small hulls because other than cargo hulls that's the only hull I have and they're cheaper. Basically I'm getting all of my colonizers free out of the queued up shipbuilding
Did you start out with a PreCursLib?
Yes, isn't that pretty much required? My problem was that I used up my money fairly effectively getting to March 1st but by August 1st I had about 7K BC's on hand. In this case money not spent is a bad thing and I could and should have increased research levels between March and August both for the benefit that increased early tech spending has on your score plus the benefit of having more useful techs earlier. It was annoyin
Does total number of planets vary in the same manner as habitable does with Ctrl+N?
I *think* that the total number of habitable planets does stay the same on ctrl-n but like I said you should be able to verify that in cheat mode on a small or tiny galaxy reasonably easily if that feature is important to you.
I've used the ctrl-N a few times but the results seem to suggest a preset % amount in bonus tiles.
I think this is true of all versions and revisions
I don't remember anyone changing the SBs AOI range.
Same here. But I have heard about starbases being able to move. See the following post by Darth Nilihus from 2006. https://forums.galciv2.com/120222
First of all my apologies for not knowing how to actually post a screenshot on here
Make sure the display you want is the active window and then hold down the Alt key while pressing the PrintScr key (usually above the Insert key). This will copy the contents of your active widow to your clipboard. Then open up MS Paint and you can paste (ctrl-v) the contents of your clipboard and then crop and edit the screenshot and save it as either a .jpg or a .png. <p
Here's my first ZYW, my first completed DA game and my first game in over 14 months (correction 18 months). Don't bother counting it because it's really nothing more than a test. I basically played for real up to Aug 1st and then clicked end turn thereafter just to see where I ended up. I'm also not all that happy with all of the choices I made prior to Aug 1st. I only ended up with 342 planets and a pop little more than 2T
*Very* interesting. Can this be confirmed? I actually asumed otherwise - because if you do Control-N you'll have to have a connection established to the MV.
It would be really hard to confirm on a gigantic however I do know the number of systems and total number of planets do stay the same. However this was specifically DL v1.4x so caveat emptor. But basically in the days of the MV league we played tiny to medium galaxies and if you look at your mini-map you can actually
But still interesting. In what version/expansion did you notice that?
I got that with DL v1.5 and DA v1.8g as well as DL v1.4x prior to that. I didn't have enough experience with TA v1.96 to form an opinion. Note that I always got the same number and type of bonus tiles every colonization, that was certainly fixed, however where the bonus tiles were and in fact the pattern of how the usable tiles were distributed over the planet was randomly regenerated each ti
In fact, the forum denizens here are some of the most polite I've seen.
We all can get a bit rowdy from time to time but overall this is a true statement. But as far as ways to play, this game certainly has a bunch of them. For one most folks don't find much use for military starbases and in general find that the best defense is a good offense. A few years ago I was essentially commenting as much and someone posted a screenshot of how they played and it was really amazin
250K on a tiny! Amazing. Would you be willing to say whether that was with rare or abundant settings? I'm still trying to close out my current game. I had forgotten how long a single turn can take. I'm at August 1st with 300 planets and 150 colony ships but the speed issue is a major PITA. I'm thinking of going back and delaying a bit so that I both get more planets as well as have a faster colony ship. In fact I'm pretty certain that's the right thing to do.
You may want to ARC the starting system of the AI as well, which altogether will result in having 10 planets more in-game, preferably all to the Oxor-system, which will yield the most tiles, as well as all these planets wil get the 10% moral-bonus after terraforming.
I do all ten but I don't do all to the same starting system. I was worried about using the same system name multiple times.
I further upgrade the Miner to the stock ColonyShip which is only 44bc on th
Slightly off-topic, but how are you getting a 3 planet home system? I don't do ARCs because I consider it "cheating", but from what I understand you're working with all the default home systems and just using them with different or custom races, and none of the defaults have 3 habitables.
You get the three planets simply by picking a home planet in the system that's normally a PQ0. For example by picking Mercury as your starting home planet when playing the Terrans you star
I guess this is one of those things that just "is" but the planet summary screen of *every* single planet lists 14 mining bases, none of which contribute anything to the planet and oddly enough are numbered Mining Base 1 through Mining Base 6 and then Mining Base 8 through Mining Base 15. What happened to Mining Base 7? Why are these same bases listed for *every* single planet? Does anyone really ever bother with improving asteroids in the first place? Seems to me to be a total w
Besides, I wonder what the AltMeta does with games/scores from *cleared* characters?
It keeps them at least unless Kryo has to do a character or perhaps an empire reset. This used to be required from time to time but I haven't noticed that happen in over a year although I haven't been watching all that closely. Anyway my main Mumblefratz character has been reset awaiting a new monster score for quite some time but the Altmeta still has the pre-reset data, and tha
When I started playing this game the Orcas were the 1st place MV empire. They were a strong empire with a lot of good players along with having the current 1st place MV player, Syrrus K. It would have been easy for me to jump on the bandwagon and simply join the Orca's but I felt that it was better to join the underdog and help them earn that 1st pl
But for your purposes, it would appear to be about 56% of the instarushbuy cost.
I thought it was a bit better than that but the bottom line is that you can save money upgrading versus buy and whether it's a bit less than half doesn't matter much qualitatively but it's nice to know the real numbers.
Thanks again!
You're welcome. Most folks around here are pretty helpful. There's not quite as many of them as there used to be but there's still plenty
Cargo and Large are the same size in DL only; this is not the case in DA and TA and you cannot upgrade a Cargo hull to a Large hull in DA/TA.
Thanks for the clarification. Yet another DA/TA difference about which I was unaware. Actually while we're at it I'm sure you know the precise ratios of the cost of purchasing a ship outright versus the cost of upgrading the hull to a complete ship. Can you share this information?
How do I upgrade a ship design without resetting the entire weapons/shields configuration?
Go to the main Menu then to Options then select the Interface tab. The last item on the screen is an option to "Remove Functional Components When Upgrading a Ship Design". Make sure the box for this option is NOT checked and you should be all set.
If I select "upgrade" to ships in the field are they upgraded where they are located?
Yes. However the length of ti
In DL I can't say
In DL no, or more correctly I've never heard of or experienced any.
but in DA there certainly is.
I did not know that. Thanks for the correction.
