I don't mind it being difficult to form a "alliance". But near impossible is another thing. It seems to have gone from one extreme to another. (Mind you, I know its not impossible. The Ai did it. After a couple 100 turns.) For me, It should build up after a long time of investment. Sorta like, the espionage feature. Let say, after 10,000 credits of trade. A alliance is formed. Or a alliance of convenience to contain a "Greater threat". Like the dread lords. And after t

I researched all Four "trade" tech's. (neutral included) And sent all of my freighters towards the Arcean home world. (12-14 trade route‘s?) I researched all of the "influence" techs, and built all of the diplomacy wonders. And I'm only "friendly" with them. (Side note: I have about 1.5 Military power over the next strongest military race.) I don't know if this is a bug, a "super nerf" or I'm missing something here? Any help appreciated.
It might not be a Bug, but in "tough" Ai setting: lg galaxy, 10 races. Both the Ai and I ran out of credits real quick. (It was funny, watching all the Line's on the economic scale graph "flat line" at the same time. Including me.) Seems the Ai is not used the patch change's either. Either that or it was a fluke.
I tend to lose interest as well. (mid-game) Recently, I have found that if I limit my playing to one hour spurts. I can finish the Game. (Anymore, then I get Galciv burn out.) (Marshalloneal) Has a couple of excellent point's. Far better then my limit your time playing suggestion.
Nibiru, planet x.

http://www.radgametools.com/default.htm- download Bink video player. Goto: C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Movies (or whereever the movie files are.) Play the Vids via the Bink video player. Hope that helps.
SEV is the "rogue" of space games. What it lacks in appearence, it makes up in features. And if you can't stand SE graphics. You will loathe ASCII graphics.
So the mexicans are Torians?
I'm not a super genius like some here. And usually play at Tough level. Lg Galaxy, 9 opponents. (And I don’t auto-sum for better planets. I play with what the “cards dealt me.”.) Some like to "Buy ships". I prefer too buy "factories", and build the ships via Factories. Usually I "buy" three factories, Then set Military spending\research to 50\50. (Build your colonies after the colony rush) A Colony ship structure can be made into a fast. scout ship. Speed 5, scan 7. (excluding
It's funny, The longer this game is out. The more people want it to become like a Space empire or MOO type game. (i.e. dyson spheres, Carriers, Planet destruction, Strong Starbase's, Colonization of all planets, Mining of planet\asteroid resource's, Monsters, etc.) Does all of the space game genre always have to be the same? Or we so spoiled, that we want it all the same? side note: Personally, I have always dreamed of playing "4x" type game in isometric “pseudo” true 3D. (
I tend to think of Military starbase's as Mobile Cannon's for my infantry. For exp. In BOTF. By stationing a Outpost in the same square as my Battle Fleet. I received one free extra attack. (Or Cloaked ships lost their one "free" round.) Sure it isn't a "fleet killer". But at least it gave me a higher chance at victory. In GalCiv 2. A swarm of tiny fighters can be made Many times more powerful. By simply Grouping a pair of Construction ships with the fighters. And then before
Welcome to Simlife. (*TM) Your Mula is in the hole, And the "research" (collage) to get you out of the hole is too much. several basic hints: 1) "Sell" your Tech's, Worthless ship's, and form "trade" route's. 2) Make your home planet, A economic Depot. 2 or 3 Basic Factory's, 2 morale center's, and the rest "trade market's". (And research up.) 3) "Mine" economic anomalies. 4) Increase the tax rate to 49%. 5) Race set up file's could be set up to +50
ConQuesci, You need to download the upgrade patch for GalCiv2. Version 1.2?
I usually just "buy" my Alliance. I add "alliance" to the trade table, and Throw about 100,000 or more credits at the AI.
The new SE V will be out sometime in sept. 06'. The Ai while initially "dumb" usually gets a "big upgrade" with user mod's. (And note SE V is promised to be very moddable.) Personly, I think it took a turn for the worse. When SE replaced Time based space combat to Real time Space Combat. But this is the Wrong forum to Gripe on.
Have you tried setting research to 100% on planet invasion? What's your beginning strategy?
