I think there's an underlying assumption built into your thinking, Jafo: that if a given program works well and produces the desired results in one country/culture, then it rationally and absolutely will duplicate all of those same good results when transplanted into another country/culture. It's a persuasive assumption because it just seems so logical. Like most assumptions, it's sometimes very wrong. Human behavior, single and in groups, does not bow to the dictates of "logical" paradigms beca

FL - "What a frightening country" . You must scare awfully easy. I go all over Houston at all hours unarmed without any significant fear of being attacked. I'm always aware of my surroundings, but very rarely nervous at all. I'm in far more danger of being bitten by a rabid skunk, rattlesnake, or disease-carrying mosquito than of being attacked by other humans. Pa-leeeze!

Perhaps I should have been more altruistic about the big picture, tossed my gun away, and should have opted to "take one for the greater good of a holier gunfree society"? That would have looked really good as an epitaph on my

Two big problems in America really fry me: Gun manufacturers ship obscenely large quantities of guns to private citizens with a Federal Firearms License with no questions asked as to how and where so many hundreds of guns are being sold. People who consistently claim their 2nd Amendment rights, but almost never will allocate money and floor space for a heavy gun safe. >
