IMO off type defense should offer NO PROTECTION against an attack. If I have armor and they have missiles, then my armor should be useless, period. Why go through the trouble of introducing three very different defense techs if they in essence impart similar defenses? In the real world (anyone get a good chuckle from that?)a cop's body armor isn't going to do him much good against someone armed with a Taser, is it? Or how about a perp using tear gas... will the cop's body armor protect him

They don't, it's all recorded in debug.err and it's quite clear that the AI's trading much more lightly under 1.5X I guess it's all in the eyes of the beholder my friend. When two AI's trade what I would consider 'good techs' like weapons or something to benefit your economy, then I have issues with that. They won't trade in a similar fashion with me, regardless of what I offer, and that's okay, so long as they don't do it amongst themselves. Even AI's

I do play on gigantic maps and I DO use them, especially around my home planet sector. Once upgraded they can be very useful to your ships, especially ones defending your homeworld. Plus, the bonuses they impart to your ships means that you don't necessarily have to have the baddest ships in the universe to stand a chance against invaders, thus allowing you to build cheaper defense ships, keep you maintenance budget low, and use the money elsewhere. Late game it doesn't really matter so much if

So we have been told from the beginning but atleast pre 1.5x AI did tech trade with each other like horny bunnies. Seems they still do this 'post patch' as well, or so it seems in my game. I've pretty much turned tech trading off at this point due to this because it does seem that the AI trades decent techs amongst 'itself' quite a bit more than it does with me. The computer is lightyears ahead of me on research when I allow them to trade. As soon as I

I still would like to see the actual numbers on the fleets that he was fighting with/against. [Vice Admiral] [Third Place Empire] [Racial Victory] [5 Game Winner] [20 Game Winner] [50 Game Winner] [Custom] [Over 50 Battles] [Neutral] [Masochistic] I promised you guys numbers and I'll get them for you. I didn't get a chance to play last night as expected so I

Well, you might want to ignore most of this post now. Since the 1.5X update, playing with the strategy I listed above doesn't work well anymore. I told you guys to keep your lips shut! Now see what you did?

Thanks for all the thought Entropy, it's appreciated. I'm going to have to try some other tricks to actually 'see' what the hell is happening here. I admit I haven't read many of the posts regarding combat and what has actually changed from DL so maybe I 'missed the memo'. Who knows, maybe tonight will be relegated to curling up with a good copy of Adobe reader and a shot or two of Nyquil. RTFM just might apply to me in this instance! <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Congrat

Anyway, what are you doing at work with the flu? Considering the risk of infecting others, they should pay you to stay home. Good one. Pay me to 'not infect' the masses... I should use that at the next review. Actually, I believe I'm past the contagious stage, the wife hates when I get to stay home and she doesn't... and all four shepards decided they wanted to eat the garbage instead of their kibble for breakfast. This was enough to convince me that I'

A fleet with 460 attack shouldn't have much chance of hurting a ship with more than about 250 missile defense, and I don't see that behaviour in my own game. Exactly my point. Thing was, my defense was at least 1000, hence the three asterisks instead of a defense ranking. Their attack was nowhere near this number. I haven't had any issues otherwise, except for some late game freezing, which was no big deal (think I had waaaaay too many custom ships in

Maybe so. I wish I had the actual numbers but trust me when I say that my attack rating was at least three times higher than their HP's, and well over their defense numbers, which was what led me to attack without fear in the first place. My defense rank was roughly double if not more their attack strength, so I 'assumed' they couldn't hurt me. Even my total HP's were double to triple their fleet's total attack damage. Like I said, I read the off-type defense bug thread and for some reason (wou

At work, on Nyquil and dealing w/fever... but I will attempt to remember as best I can. One AI fleet had three 'large' ships w/198 hp total, high 200's for attack, low 300's for defense, all missile weapons/defenses. I went up against this fleet with two 'lucky rangers' which combined had around 300 hp, roughly 120 mass driver attack/78 or so armor... destroyed. Next AI fleet was similar with maybe two or three small hulls in the mix. Again, all missile tech for weapons/defenses... ab

Okay, as you all know I don't crunch all the numbers all the time so I am basically having a difficult time with ship combat for some strange reason, since the update just to add that to this. My question is, I had a fleet of four huge hulled ships fully decked with the highest missile defense possible. The fleets combined defense vs. missiles was so high that on screen it was just three stars, ***. They were armed and supported by a couple of smaller ships, all using neutrino bullets sinc

agree but i have to say i don't blame people for being like that, i blame what has happened to our schools. Kids are no longer being taught dicipline, and how to get along in society and relationships. so yes, of course our society is falling apart -I say 'fix the schools and save the world'! It's not necessarily the schools per se, but the parents, or at least what the parents go through these days. I am a firm believer that there should

Yet they've replaced it with a system that in many ways is even more restrictive than having to place a disc in the drive, at least for those of us that are off-line at the moment. On this one you've got me beat. I can't come up with any good defense for why the system is like it is. I myself have never 'pirated' a game, and have never had any issue with entering the serial number that comes with the game to 'prove I have a valid copy'. I never had any

and that most people like it. Honestly, I think those who like it have had internet since it was first made available to the public. Most people in here who play this game don't seem like finances, or sometimes even time, are an issue. It always seems that the few, the proud... the poor come up on the short end of the stick, even in cyberspace!

Those of us who did so deserve the same amount of support as those who got their versions online. If Stardock doesn't want to acknowledge that some people aren't directly connected to the internet, then they shouldn't release their products through general retail at all. I'm getting rather annoyed at their attitude that those of us without our own connections are somehow undeserving of their products. I can totally sympathize with what you're saying as

Bless you iztok... I second that! It is players like you who actually have the mind for such things that make my life a little less taxing. I could never have the patience, or knowledge for that matter, to crunch the numbers in the way that you have. Kudos my friend, kudos.

Methinks General Homsar has 'opened up a can of worms' with this post. I imagine we could all flood the gates with dozens upon dozens of rants like: Why do you still pay the CAT fund on your traffic citations when the 'law' was supposed to be lifted some fifteen years ago? Or how about the PA Turnpike. Back when they began construction they said the idea of a 'toll road' was just to make the money to pay for the highway. Once paid for it would revert to a normal non-toll route. Still

Didn't you go to Forum Be-Nice College? I like that one. I myself got my doctorate from Forum Flaming Farms, an independent little school usually advertised on the condom machines in the smaller, privately owned hole in the wall bars. They only offer correspondence classes for the moment but I hear once they get some funds coming in they may actually branch out and offer some live classes at local community colleges all across the USA.

DA is nowhere near in the same league as some of the Blizzard expansions but it is pretty solid though. But how many Blizzard expansions were pretty much based on player feedback and requests? Seems to me, most of what is in DA was pretty much brought about from this forum and the people who made suggestions. But it could just be me.

My rant: Just got done getting 'raped' from the Colonial Penn insurance guys at work. Gee, take my measly 270.00 a week take home and then knock another 40.00 a week off for life, accident, and cancer coverage. Let's not forget the 106.00 for BC/BS on me and the wife, which is also every week. That's what takes me down to the 270 mark. At this point it would almost be more 'fiscally' savvy to just get sick, hurt or maybe even die... I think I would make more! <img src="http://images.stardock.co

Well G.W. it all depends on you as far as I'm concerned. I will post any and every meta game I play, period. Wins and losses don't matter in my eyes. The part about saving and then 'restarting'... I have a meta game right now that I did that with and I myself am wondering if it is 'worth' submitting. My opinion is 'I cheated' by doing so... but I don't think the meta catches this kind of 'cheese', but I'm not 100% certain. Bottom line, if you enjoyed the game and found it fun, as you said, then
