Okay, I gave some thought to the UP issues that I have and think I have a reasonable thought regarding some changes to the UP. Give the UP it's own special 'troops' kind of like UN soldiers (only way more effective)and give them some of their own unique ships, or if this is too much, have the ships drawn randomly from the different races that comprise the UP. You're right, doesn't seem to happen when playing on smaller size maps (I tried huge, map clearing is ok). That's what I thought as well but I didn't test it enough times. Definitely there on gigantic galaxies though, seems frequency choice doesn't matter whether abundant, common or occasional.

I've seen this too. It happened when I started at the edge of the map Myself included. Seems to only happen in the 'upper right' portion on gigantic maps, and no it doesn't clear up even after reloading.
