completely. However doesn't the AI tend to not bother puting sensors on it's ships anyway ? I think the bigger issue would be, why bother with stealth? You can build uber fast ships that the AI can't handle as it is, so why make them hard to see ? You'd need some other factor to make it good as is. (Like improve the odds in a fight of taking no damage (a miss), or

There should be stealth technology, but it shouldn't be magical invisibility. Stealth on a ship should reduce the effective sensor range it can be seen at. ship A has a sensor range of 10 enemy ship B has stealth 2 Ship A cannot see ship B unless it is 8 spaces away. It's straightforward, simple, and very realistic.
For starters, they ARE doing damage--they're killing soldiers. Second, the defenders might be busy shooting at the asteroids, too busy to shoot the transports. Third, and most obvious, perhaps an interstellar warship is more durable than an arbitrarily propelled piece of junk rock. I'm just saying that if there was magical future tech that could
Sounds like a good idea. The only thing about this game I'm not to keen on is the ground forces. Is every person on the planet trained in the military? That's how it seems because it's quite possible to take people from a planet and then in less than a week, land a highly trained bunch of elite troops on an enemy world. It just doesn't seem quite right at the moment that y
I am currently working on a mod for advanced ground combat, in which i basically seperate the soldiering bonuses out of the tech tree and make it it's own branch. Right now, if you want to max out soldiering, you need to research planetary bombardment, troop transports, etc. It makes no sense. I believe that most of soldiering could be done without having to learn advanced invasion tactics or weaponry, and that making those go hand in hand makes defense very hard. My tech tree
This is the 26th century soldiering we're talking here. Doesn't anyone think they can render asteriods harmless by hitting them with fusion bombs or giant laser cannons as they hit the atmosphere? That's why soldiers are needed on the ground to disrupt those countermeasures so the asteriods can get through. If people could destroy entire asteroid
edit: somehow i hit quote in Planetary Assaults and my post appeared in this thread...
I haven't flamed anyone, but I would like to see where it is the devs say there won't be multiplayer. I've been told over and over again that "According to the devs, there will never be MP" Reading through the journals, I keep seeing "there will eventually be MP, but we aren't willing to sacrifice other thing for it" I thought that that meant that there would eventually be multiplayer.
I am also not happy with how invasions currently work. I wish that invasion tactics were applied regardless of winning or losing, but i respect the developer's decision. If it were to be inplemented, however, this is how I think it should work: Right now, invasion tactics involve paying a small ammount of money to increase you chances or winning a ground war and risking a penalty to your prize. If invasion tactic were to instead be you paying money to penalize the planet, wheth
For the enhanced ground combat mod I am working on, I was hoping to add "Training camps" that would add a bonus to soldiering. You would be able to build one per planet, thus your the more planets you have the more training potential there is. Unfortunatly, this does not seem possible. Using a normal improvemnt, the soldiering bonus is not applied because normal inprovements can't create global bonuses, but I don't want the limitations of super projects, trade goods, or galactic achievements. <b
I think it's important to realize that these forums are not an accurate sample of consumers. A lot of people wont buy galciv2 BECAUSE it's not multiplayer. Those people aren't on these forums voting in polls. I think there's no excuse for galciv2 to not have multiplayer. Sure, people are saying "I wont pay for multiplayer" but that's only because we don't already have it. For a $40 pricetag, why doesn't it already have multi-player? Don't get me wrong, I don't feel ripped off, and I don't expect
