Call me a perv, but I was always partial to the Syreen from the Star Control series. "Mr. Hull, the Alliance Senate Committee on Interspecies Relations would like you to explain this earmarked request for 500 billion credits in one credit paper notes..." "No, Mr. Hull, it was NOT appropriate to offer the Syreen Ambassador a stripper pole for her quarters. Yes, even if she DID accept i

Retirement communities would be popular. Living out your 70s and onward in a fraction of the homeworld's gravity would be a godsend for some people who's bodies aren't holding up well. There's your population, influence (hey, these old farts got connections , approval rating bonuses (improved quality of life, and the kids back on the homeworld don't have to care for'em), and economy (new meaning to old money), EVERYONE'S happier. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/BigS
Good point, definitely a factor to consider for the next game.
9 Races, Tiny Galaxy, Rare habitables (though I stuck with abundant planets). THAT is a rough game. It also demonstrates a gross imbalance in how alien races respond to you. Within 10 turns, I had four empires threatening me for money, even though their relations to me were Neutral, yet NOT ONE had made even the slightest progress towards Friendly even with trade relations and some deliberately thrown tech trades and gifts. Its like the game is deliberately weighted towards alien hos
Frankly, in gigantic galaxies, alliance wins seem virtually impossible. The amount of space allows empires to become extremely independent of one another. Because of the way I run my empire, I don't go picking fights, and I tend to build a research heavy set up, so in one game where I put a LOT of effort into trying for an Alliance win, I actually ran out of technology to research and ended up in a Tech win by default. I play an ethical society, but I do make a concerted effort to re
Damn, i stand totally corrected, I thought they were just eye candy...
This is something that the new eye candy got me thinking about. Colonizing Satellites. It would seem to me that after a planet is fully developed, a reasonably smart race would look at all that airless, low gravity real estate in orbit and think, "Why not?" Nothing spectacular, maybe not even developable real estate like a planet, but a single development like "Satellite Research Colony" giving additional research. "Satellite Manufacturing Facility" for Social/Military production, or "Satellit
I don't use mass drivers unless I'm in a bad spot or I'm cheeseballing a high pop planet by sacrificing 1000 units at a time in a hopeless battle to wear them down. Low PQ planets make awesome starship factories. 3-5 factories, a starbase, the colony, and just crank on military hardware with no competition from social building. Like I said, there are no worthless planets, just clueless players. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Tongue.gif" border=0 ALIGN="a
In my case, it would be "colonize". I tend to play ethical alignment. Not that I haven't tried an evil race, but the one time I did, the Torians were the dominant race out of the colony rush, and they decided to pulverize me before I had a military to speak of...
I've seen even a Bright AI rip through weapons trees. The Drengin in my games ALWAYS go missile, and the Yor tend towards beams or railguns. It depends on how pressured they are militarily. The one time I saw the Yor go ripping up the beam tree, they ended up surrendering (thankfully, they also tend to be extremely easy to maneuver out of their techs when they're under the gun from someone else.) The Drengin are just mean cusses, and they'll do it for kicks. Everyone else seems to
Already asked about this, and I don't think so. The dumbing down of the minors was a deliberate choice. At the very least, it would be nice if I could trade with them for all the resource starbases they like to spambuild without having to kick their butts for them. Their starbases never show up in the trade window. Nor do their ships. If they're not going to be a colonial power, it would be nice if they weren't a resource hogging power, either. With the primary races spendi
No wait, there's a way to deal with that. Just got to make a fresh version with just the templates, then archive them somewhere until I start a new game and copy them in. All good.
I think I understand what he's running into. You cannot name your custom ships the same name as a core design. So you're upgraded Battleship will have to get a new name like Strike Battleship, Command Battleship, or Battleship II. I've had Light Cruisers, Escort Cruisers, Strike Cruisers, Heavy Cruisers... All kindsa naming gymnastics to get around the core names.
Cool beans, thanks. Of course, that means I lose my templates, too... *sigh*
I use a number of stripped down hull designs with generic monikers that I will outfit in games as my tech progresses. What is happening, is that at the end of a game, I've got all these designs with endgame tech that I try overwriting in a new game, so when I start a new game, I go back to the generic hull and create a new low tech version for the current campaign. The problem is, as an example, if I create a new low tech Huge hull ship and give it the same name as the ship from the ol
Its already hard enough game wise to deal with the New cost of the Higer Research and Industrial Centers. This is one reason I wish we could build multiple levels of building over the course of the game. Forcing new planets to start from the best possible building is just oppressive. Especially when the worlds you capture are underdevel
The official count is now FOUR Precursor Rangers found, and a single Precursor Corvette event which gave me two.
It definitely affects random events, I've had a bunch of them. A couple major multiple choice events not related to colonization and TWO Precursor Ranger events over the course of three turns. But then I also realized I'd been playing this game with the +25 optional Luck, along with the Universalists, so its been +50.
A few shots of my dreadnoughts in action. Plus a game shot of my Dreadnought, Heavy Cruiser and Destroyer.
Feel free to look up my screenname on the IGN site for NWN. Its the same me. I helped run a NWN server for over three years. I'm looking forward to NWN2, but mostly as a single player. I LOVED the Aurora toolset.
See my thread about Loving Luck. That one planet brought a tear to my eye. On the other hand, I had one game where I bagged a purple star with a pair of 26s around it, but the starting conditions sucked so bad, I had to abandon the game. I was literally started on top of the Kvorx, and had a completely intertwined empire, plus I was trying evil for a change, and naturally, the Torians had to be the race to explode off the mark. So with no military trying to get my economy roll
c) don't panic if it happens. I just had a game where my economy imploded because I was counting on anomaly money and nothing came in. Not one. I had to bounce on the -500 line for longer than I've ever dared to with no hope of recovery until my planets managed to grow enough to rebound. Its not the end of the game by a long shot. In a larger galaxy, you can ride this out. Keep the economy hot while you're bouncing on the bottom, even though you're effectively grinding population growth to
Just the base +25 percent has seen an INCREDIBLE number of bonus tiles on the planets I'm finding in my current game. Including one that just blew my mind. A PQ10ish with four manufacturing tiles, two 300% and two 100%. I couldn't slap my Manufacturing capital on it fast enough. Almost wanted to rename the planet "Hurting Starts Here". Its been more miss than hit on the anomalies, though. This game had me starting of with literally NOTHING in terms of anomaly loot, so I spent a sick
That's one I've never had. I've literally had to park transport ships on top of Drengin, Iconian, and Kvorx planets before they get irate. And these are my 41 speed versions.
What pain? Play in windowed mode with the resolution set to match your monitor, print screen, paste into Microsoft Paintbrush, save as JPG, resume gameplay. I created half a dozen screenies in a few minutes.
