I don't know if starting a new team mid-round is necc. a good idea, but thats just my opinion. Adding to a member to a team is a relatively easy thing to do, but having a team organize, set goals, etc etc, could put them at a disadvantage to the established teams who have already had time to discuss strategies and goals. I think teams should only be formed at the start of a new round. If I mistook your meaning or intentions, I am sorry.
also, i'm just curious over the whole 1.7 Beta testers out there. Don't get me wrong, i think the changes are awesome and needed, and I really hope they work out, just that its still has its bugs (obviously, from the failure to post issues) and I personally, am gonna wait before I install it. With that said, most of the MVL players are some of the most involved GCII individuals out there, so I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that they DLed the 1.7 right away. thanks for the welcome; i'm starting my game tomorrow (since i have the day off woot woot!) and so for whatever team I am shuffled into i will have it ready (obv. I know I won't have the victory condition set yet, but I'll just play it openly since I can work out most end-game strategies from my overall play style)

i used to put a starport on every world, but as i like to play gigantic maps its not really needed. so, for me, i usually have a starport per sector as any decent ship i make past the first year is more than capable of reaching the other planets in a given sector within one turn. on medium or smaller maps, even tho space is more valuable i tend to use my starports a lil more since i need to make sure i can quickly build and defend a world if need be. it was a good read, i may suggest a size up (or two) in map size (weigh the pros and cons though) and more races. Generally, the Krynn, Arceans, Thalans, and Drengin tend to be the most expansionist; Altarians being the most helpful to good or some neutrals; Terrans tend to weigh their options evenly. Winning through ONLY influence is no easy task, its VERY daunting. If you want to take that route, realize that you may need to resort to a military at some point. I've taken on worlds with 1600
