The "freeze" factor was something we speculated about. The devs didn't mention it or anything like it so it may not be how it actually works in the game. I'm quite sure that they said it as in "you can jump without AM, but it will render a portion of your AM unusable" "Unusable" does not necessarily equate to "frozen" or any other similar term. Unusable could simply mean that it is now trash to be t

Nebulas can be BIG emp. Sounds interesting except, in the case of shields, this would create an imbalance. Losing shields would be disastrous for the Advent since their ships have much weaker hulls and rely heavily on shields for protection. Meanwhile the TEC wouldn't be at much of a disadvantage without their relatively weak shields.

Again I do remember the Dev stating this, that the AM just becomes unusable for a short period of time. Where? I must have missed it. Antimatter and Phase Jumping: Phase jumping does not cost antimatter. The act of jumping has a negative effect on antimatter that renders portions of it unuseable effectively consuming it. Thus, a ship without any antimatter reserves can still make a jump. Blair <b

but you would just regen it. doesn't explain the "freeze" factor. The "freeze" factor was something we speculated about. The devs didn't mention it or anything like it so it may not be how it actually works in the game. exactly, and what would make this different from just spending AM (other than that you dont need any when you jump) Well, you just said it. Jumping doesn't require antimatter s

Here is why a global organization such as the UN cannot have any real power: If they did, then nobody would join. Think about it. If you were the leader of a country, would you join an organization that had the power to deploy your military and tell you what to do and not to do? No. Or maybe you would but if they told you not to do something that you really wanted to then you would just drop out. Also, what if it were the United States or Russia or some other nuclear p

As long as the spam is moderated and there are private chat rooms I will be happy. Hmm on that subject, lets talk a little about the swear filter: Now, I'm sure you guys are all over this but I just want to throw out some really dumb things that I've seen on some other games. Words like "fvck" and "b|tch" probably ought to be filtered. Words like "assault" and "Virginia" probably shouldn't. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T

but then wouldn't you just ditch the useless stuff? Exactly right. Thus the "effectively consuming it" part. You now have a chunk of your antimatter missing even though it didn't cost any antimatter to jump. If this were the actual implementation, then your "missing" antimatter would recharge at the same rate as any other antimatter that you used in the conventional sense.

Or, maybe the entire ship changes phase upon entering phase space and is changed back when it exits... but antimatter is trickier so some of it is lost in the conversion back. Since the Vasari are the most advanced and excel at this phase space stuff they will be better at converting antimatter back and will thus lose less when they phase jump. This would support their ability to conduct hit-and-run raids and their preference towards guerrilla warfare.

Aha! Maybe they call it "Phase Space" because something about it causes some of the antimatter to phase transition into something else. Maybe it turns into regular matter or something and is therefore no longer useful as fuel. This would be consistent with what we know: "The act of jumping has a negative effect on antimatter that renders portions of it unuseable effectively consuming it."

I think that you only colonize uninhabited planets. If someone already occupies it then you need to "persuade" the citizens to give their allegiance to you instead. "Persuade" could mean any number of things: intimidate, invade (maybe?), mind control, etc. ...Either that or blow them all off of the face of the planet and then establish your own colony.

There used to be a ship listed with a special ability of "colonize." Of course that has been removed from the site but it did exist at one point. I suppose that doesn't rule out the possibility of the the ship using it being "destroyed" in the process but it suggests to me that the ship isn't destroyed. Edit: Here's the link to the old page (thanks Multianna!) https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/rac

But "becomes usable again" is weird. It means that a part of your AM (this part would make it even more weird) is, as was proposed, frozen, than suddenly comes into action. Why only a part, why can't this be avoided... Well, lemme see if I understood your question correctly. Instead of using up AM, jumping only renders some of it unusable for a period of time. I would imagine that it doesn't become usable again in chunks, but gradually just like regular

You forget that theres a hull. Right. And it starts taking damage when the shield is gone. And a fully charged shield is going to last longer than one that has already been beat on for a while. Because while the beat-on one is stronger, eventually the fully charged one will get beat on and be in the same state as the beat-on shield... only it took a while to get it there... get it?

Knowing that lower shields provide more cover will make me keep the ships tactically engaged untill they are lower only to turn around and run away when the foe starts doing less damage. Can't say I agree with you there. While you are taking less damage per shot, there is still less of your shield left so a weakened shield will still become completely depleted sooner than a shield that is at full power to begin with.

Wow, Space Voyager and Alcari make good arguments. Space Voyager's would work if you get it back at the same rate as regular recharge and Alcari's works if it is a different rate - though instead of freezing you could throw in some techie mumbo jumbo.
