The official gravity well sizes will no doubt be going thru plenty of revision up to release but if you want to try it out, they are very easily modded. I'll leave it to the detectives out there to see if they can uncover the secret. Already those in the sins irc channel have figured out lots of neat tricks including swarms of 300 fighters and completely new ship layouts

Yarlen answered a number of the concerns accurately - it just doesn't fit the backstory. Now, as sci-fi buffs ourselves we understand where you are coming from with regards to accurate solar systems. I can't speak for other game companies, but I imagine they went through a number of the same experiments we did and must have arrived at some of the same conclusions. This is probably why you see some of the things you dislike over and over again. I'll give a few examples. <P

The colony capitalship and the broadcast center have them. We'll get around to adding them to all the ships and buildings as appropriate at a much later date

2. when a cap ship levels up i would like a star or some other signal above it so i can find it really fast in the middle of a fire fight. Hmm, there should be a little white plus sign on the ship's icon and around its mesh view should have a big glowy white particle effect.

I know this is more the UI category, but adding a window or something that allows you to see what ships you have selected would be very useful in tactical battles. Right now I have to do it all by memory and eye - which makes it hard to compose uniform fleets. The ships you have selected should appear on the left side of the screen with white boxes around them. <

Try and see if these work: Z, X, C will jump to you specified distances. V and B should act like the mouse wheel. If you are having trouble keeping your ships in view, try switching to attached camera mode by pressing M or the button just left of center with a little locked camera on it.

Well either naval ranks, or give us the ability to set them to whatever we want! The orange button above the portraits at the bottom of the screen will allow you to name your ships and planets among other functions in a future version.

How do you queue up colonization orders like that ? Hold down shift. right click planet. click colonize button, select planet, right click next planet.

1. Possibly. Planetary automation is actually already implemented. We just aren't sure which elements should be exposed. We don't want the game to play itself too much. 2. This should already be possible. I regularly tell a colony ship to move to a planet, colonize, and then move to another planet as a series of queued orders. Perhaps we could improve it in some ways. Ideas? Glad you like the AI, we'll keep working to improve it.

Thanks for the great comments Use tilde for Z axis movement. It works the same as HW2. You can remap the key if you like. Ships in phase space will arrive at the corresponding Z position of the destination. Building along the Z axis is a possibility that we aren't overly against, just haven't tested it fully yet. However, we have experimented extensively with Z placement of the planetary

You will see your color moving along the phase lanes. When it reaches another planet, it will be at full effect. Neutral lines will be gray and enemy culture will be their color.

- UI: Need an easier way to find all ships of a class; after killing a planet I am always searching for my Colony frigates and its a devil to find them when your fleets get big. I agree.. mentioned this else where, it would be nice to have a fleet option or some way to seperate a ship from other ships in the list so you have immediate access to it agian.. some sort of hot bar or something.. Some good comments, a lot of which will be addres

I set the ISWINDOWED property to TRUE, the result was different... I get a black window pop up for less than a second then nothing. I also tried lowering my desktop screen res down to 1024x768 but that had no effect on SoaSE either. I still can't run the game. Thanks to all the minidumps and reports from you guys we've tracked a lot of the crashes so far. We are likely going to be issuing a beta 1 patch soon. Hopefully, on

Minidumps and save games are both extremely useful. The first allows us to see the state of the game at the time of the crash and the save games allows to duplicate the situation on our own computers so we can see the sequence of events that led to the crash. Thanks for the save game wedge

If you have high culture on your own planet you receive a tax bonus and if you have culture on an enemy planet, you will be reducing his taxes. If you have ships around a ship with enemy culture, you will not repair as fast (again proportional to your culture). More culture features are yet to come. EDIT: Culture REDUCES enemy taxes, does not STEAL enemy taxes. My bad
