The game's main screen reads "1.7 Dark Avatar beta 1". Yet the Stardock "Installed" field reads "1.70[b].003". Is this ("beta 1" vs "[b].003")correct? That's just the working name vs the formal version name. Same kinda thing happened with the 1.6 betas. BTW, all. Thanks for the help. When we came back from Arby's, I could finally see the update via SDC. Currently attempting to break game and find fault and nitpic. drrider

Why doesn't Carielf put a picture of herself on her profile page? She just uses that dumb elf picture. Is she hot???? Etrius Of course she is hot. Her code , and by inference her brain, is smokin'! What?! Did you mean something else? something low and piggish and rather beneath your intellectual level as a fan of this game? Surely not! drrider PS - Cari, I continue my conviction that you are, in fact, 'hot' i

2) Ships defending planets --> Unless using an Orbital Fleet Manager, defensive ships are basically taking turns lining up to be killed by the invading forces; there is no logical reason why they should do this that I can see. The OFM is okay, I guess, but the space required to build it on makes it less appealing, much less the fact that it's unique. So, only one planet in the empire has clued in to the idea of a coordinated defense? I suggest, as an alternative, that

An alternate path might be that the safe haven team were tossed in TIME, and they wind up competing to BECOME the Precursors, or they wind up competing with familiar but decendant cultures long after the Dread Lords war. Any of the above might happen when you go through the wormhole on Turn 1; be prepared to cope. drrider

Might I suggest a storyline: 'The proponent race' (player choice), at the beginning of the turmoil of the Hyperdrive expansion (or perhaps near the end of the Dark Lords campaign), siezes the opportunity to send a special long range colonial flotilla through a massive transient wormhole, for the preservation of the race if things go completely sour in the home cluster. They are thrown to another galactic neighborhood, possibly to another galaxy altogether (the mystery about th

The rules by which the Peacekeepers decide to attack you are a bit more complicated than their press release says. As you have observed. Were you at war with ANYONE when they came on the scene (regardless of whether you were actually conducting operations)? That is one thing that they are known to dislike. In any case, it has been noted elsewhere in the forum that the Peacekeepers, whatever their triggers, are operating as intended and are unlikely to be changed. drrider

Personally I rather like mega pirates. I just turtle up and develop my planets and research, which is how I prefer it anyway. Let the AI guys try to get back in the spacelanes, and incidentally clean up the pirates. drrider

Well, I'm scarcely an expert on how the code may be set up to track the game, but at the very least it is keeping data points used to create the timeline histories. So, yes, I think it could be affecting your load times, at least. BTW, for a game where the tech dev cycles / timeline of the civ feels more like the right scale, try Starships Unlimited. Also has a nice tactical, control your own ship, layer. Relatively unsophisticated graphics, though, so don't be disappointed there. A

You can never count on saved games restoring entirely correctly across an engine update. In the case of v1.61, there were pretty extreme graphics optimizations, so that probably goes double. The devs usually warn about possible incompatibilities with old saves at the time of each version update posting. Yes, the mega pirates event is still in the game. No, there are no widespread reports of it being glitched in v1.61. I think you just need to start a new game. Each time you

Updating ATI drivers (From 7.5 to 7.8) had no effect. Nor did a full re-install. The problem appears about 1500+ turns into ANY saved games. The only way to get out of it, is to use my windows key to force minimization, then to End Task the game. Has anyone else come across this? Is there some work-around of fix? My guess it that there is almost no one out here who has ever had a 1500+ gt game. drrider

And I guess I should mention that, for me, the way the elections work is one of the silliest parts of the game. How hard would it be to vote based on average approval over the last year instead of just this week? The curves are there in the manager window. What? You have something against it being as much like a real election as possible? (In my 50+ years of observation, electorates pretty much do decide based on how things are this week.) <img src="http

Yes, it is true. Use the convenient 'Destroy colony' button to make all that lovely real estate into PQ0. Works on your homeworld, too, and also on your last held planet. Sort of like going postal on a galactic scale. drrider

That's my memory of why my enthusiasm for the line of reasoning waned after the test. I need to check the PQ0 thing again...since I have now foolishly asserted it to every expert on the forums. drrider

6 Replies 3,634 Views

Well, I don't know the answer to all of those, but I did experiment with destroying the colony that I had used to build several trade goods. Kept the abilities!, but I've never used the technique for real...because up until then I had not realized that destroying the colony left you with a PQ0 world! drrider

OK, I am Soo eager to have you actually playing this game and not hounding us with hypothetical (and occasionally rediculous) questions that I am going to help you out and not torture you with teasing. Among other things, I'm really eager for you to learn all about Clauswitz's Maxim (the grognard's out there all know...look it up). Bring up SDC on the connected PC. Go to Totalgaming.net. Go to Games on the left hand menu. Click to expand Purchased Software. Highlight Ga

I had created some designs like that, which I call 'Bombers' a few weeks ago, before I had the box, but then I scrapped them, because I thought attacking soft targets meant declaring war and having it expand into a true war. Yes, an attack is an attack. You use these to raid during a war. They give up firepower and defenses for range, speed, and early warning. The designs were Medium hulls, with lots & lots of engine

4) Suicide attacks on economy star bases with fleets that could easily wipe my entire military out. If any SB is armed, the AI counts it in its force calculations and planning as part of your military. Its a great defensive tactic to make a resource SB that is on your fringe but sort of on a vector to a potential aggressor ( Korath Yor ...sorry, clearing my throat) the first SB that you build up with all the fortific
