Well, you get a Capitol tile equipped planet out of it, with its research, manuafturing, pop cap and, especially, Morale benefits...and they get another capital tile promoted somewhere else . So if you go grab that one... drrider
Anything planned to get some more action in the early game like space hydras and such?
Arhhan, you are a glutton for ... Go try out the indie Starships Unlimited, at www.apezone.com. The graphics aren't star-shaking, but hey, its only a multi-award winning one-man-show. And best of all from your stand point, you start out with a really weak ship, and EVERY empty planet is guarded! Then you meet the neighbors... <img src="smiles/Wink.gif" borde

Hmmm...Well, I wasn't going to post any more start-up screenshots here. I felt I had well shown the issue. But I see that I managed to break the earlier examples when I was cleaning up my Imageshack files. D'oh! In addition, I was doing a little experimenting to see just how frequently a super-resource homeworld would show up. And in the course of about 25 resets, I came up with a 700% bounus about 70% of the time. There were double 700%ers maybe 20+% of the time. Double Pr
Drrider: You're obviously hacking the game. Please don't send in fraudulent bugs. j/k Yeah, while I would LOVE to start off with worlds such as these, it does seem to make for a unfair/unsatisfying start. We'll look into the code, but, in the meantime, anybody else get blessed with one of these bonus-rich starting worlds? [/quote
Up until I started this game I was still chugging away in MoO 1 (1992). So game play defiantly beats graphics in my mind. Too many of recent games have catered to the crowd of graphics. Give me Starcraft, Diablo 1 & 2, Lords of Magic or Baldurs Gate any day over the recent pile of goo (present company excluded).
Here, here. And how many folks on this forum have expressed their pining for MoM, with others talking of the extremes to which they have gone (keeping a DOS box

I have to say that I am ashamed by the whining, childish, thoughtless behavior displayed by elements of the player community over this bug/incident; and honored that we have someone as committed, dedicated and capable as Carielf taking care of us on Stardock's behalf. Quite frankly, those of you who were bitching so heavily that Cari hadn't published an official fix on FRIDAY NIGHT, SATURDAY, or SUNDAY...OF A HOLIDAY WEEKEND should have your GalCiv registrations cancelled or so

I play in a rather well-developed PBEM 3D 4X moderated game, guys, and its the Bomb! That's actually the reason I haven't had much time to spare for GalCiv in the last 6 weeks, even with the betas posted. Over-complicated is compensated for by just lowering the system count. In 3D, with speeds proportional to the distances (~12 turns to cross the pocket galaxy corner to corner at beginning tech), 110 - 160 systems is plenty to keep 7-8 players busy and involved. And I'm sur

Ok, its not quite as good as the first one (one less 100% rsch tile), but the Blue Fairy has granted my wish again, Gepetto. This time I was ready with a decent "Let's play Masochistic" set-up, so...see you guys later. Now, if only the Metaverse were enabled. Dear Carielf, This shot is from the very next game start. Obviously you must fix this very serious anomaly for everyone (else) right away. I however, am willing to play using the flawed code for an indefinite period to assist in whatever way I can to trace the origin of the problem. 6-7 months should be sufficient. And as a reward for my sharp perceptions, could you possibly turn

Ok, this is getting a little rediculous now. The following screen shot is from a game start 3 starts later than the previous. One of the starts in-between actually had 3Precursor Mines, but I flubbed the screenshot. As I said, unfortunately the pure investigation game/scenario set up I used is so poor as to make the game completely unsatisfying. But BOY, if I could just save the galaxy/planet start and reset the gamr for real play... drrider

Minor, Haven't you ever used, or at least heard of...the term "Spoiler Alert"? A lot of people haven't played the campaigns yet, or not all the way through, but may. Don't you think they would like to be surprised by the plot twists? drrider
+ TWEAK: The starting game year has been changed to 2227 to match story.
This has never made sense to me, not even for basic GalCiv2 vs orig GalCiv. Shouldn't the starting year of the sandbox game always be the year that all races started dashing around with Hyperdrive, regardless of where the current campaign story has progressed to? Of course, the CAMPAIGN scenarios should start at the appropriate story year, but for the sandbox "We've never been out in the

BTW, I hope all Galactopedia fans realize that the G.app will never work with TA, unless someone with far more .html and/or C++ knowledge than I updates the code, tables, whatever. There are just too many new Technologies, and more importantly, types of Technologies and Improvements, for any simple tweak of the data tables to provide a work-around. drrider

Hmmm...Well, I've updated my Galactopedia folder copy of the game files with 1.80e, then carefully followed my own instructions as stated above. My Galactopedia works fine with 1.80e data, as long as the Starbase Repair Module paragraph at the end of the Dark Avatar\Data\English\StarbaseModules.html document is commented out before you try to open Galactopedia. Remember that if you update the game, then copy tha

I love the All Labs strategy, but... Is THIS supposed to be POSSIBLE? [image removed] Unfortunately, this was in the course of just barely trying out TA/b2, since I had to be away from the game for a couple months, and the scenario settings are ludicrous (really easy - maybe cakewalk, one opponent, and I don't think I spent any start-up ability points.) I was just going to look things over, look at the tech tree, etc. Now I REALLY wish I could play this out. I migh

I guarantee you that I have been able to dominate with large fleets of well developed smalls, with few losses, where the individual ships would have been like throwing snowballs at the walls of a steel mill ("look! I can't miss! - sssst.") The structural advantage of fleets is that you can afford to make the individual ships defensively stronger, because the ATTACK of the fleet all works together on sequential targets. Therefore, the individual attack strengths don't need to be maxed o
1. The Flawed (Quartering) Production Model WWW Link does a fairly decent job of summing it up. Now I know your all aware of this (or at least some of you are, Frogboy even commented) but in the end you never actually addressed the major issue, that you have to quarter production for a balanced approach. As a small refresher or intro to the situation for those who aren't aware of it, the situation ammounts to this. If you have 5 Industrial Centers and 5 Labs, they should produce X Indestr
I would be nice if GC2 offered a way to use spies to hinder an opponent prior to a war or maybe even lead a spy war.
Where did you get the impression that you couldn't use spies in peacetime to hinder an opponent? You can totally CRIPPLE an opponent with spies without ever going to war with them. Part of the secret to using spies effectively is to use them EARLY. Start the game by producing them at max and never stop unless you have to tap the spy slider as a casflow

Many of the changes in 1.8 are performance and memory optimizers, so I think you should at least try it. Archive your current set-up with the checkbox on the SDC DL page and you can always go back. dreamrider

Somewhere along the way, someone asserted that the basic complaint here was about an "unrealistic" game mechanic, not about an "exploit" per se. I would think that anyone that bothered by an "unrealistic" game mechanic would start with complaints about the games basic time scale/distance/development relationships, rather than the little slider manipulation details. BTW, I can point you to a good little game where conquering the galaxy takes 1000-1200 years...if you are very ski
