Will user created content be immediately available for others to acquire (with a status of 'unrated' or 'not yet rated' or some-such), or does it have to make it's way through a queue of Stardock moderators to rate it before it becomes available? Without divulging technology - which may not be in place at this point - can we get the workflow outlined so that we understand the process of publishing custom content?
Will their be a United Nations (of sorts) in Elemental? It would be kinda cool to have but dont know if it will fit the theme. What do you guys think?
Wouldn't be a necessary feature for me to enjoy the game. But I wouldn't hate it either. Rather than U.N., just think "Council", as in "Council of Man" or "The White Council". Modders can create scenarios and add in important NPC dignitaries with titular
Just remember, all these buildings are totally customizeable by players. Think GalCiv II ships.
Thought about modding the art and/or models outside the game using stuff like Blender and gimp but I wasn't aware you're planning an in-game GC2 shipyard type functionality for the buildings. That's very interesting.

-Ue_Carbon hits on all cylinders in that rebuttal. Alfonse, it's crystal-clear you know what you're talking about. I will never be involved in the professional Starcraft circuit. In fact, I didn't know it existed. So bear with me when I reply to your statement, "Rushing strategies must always be viable" with a big fat raspberry! :) Your statement might be more accurate as, "Rush strategies must always be viable for hard-core online players who's
Actually, I think if the corners were blunted and not bone-colored and maybe the roof a maroon or something (still red-ish, but not so close to the red from warcraft 3) then I wouldn't feel "warcraft 3 orc" so strongly.
Ok, so here's another The Fallen structure to compare with the one in the top post. I like this better - and probably because it has the feature changes you mention: <a title="It looks rustic and austere. It
You guys do realize that ork with a 'k' is the Warhammer 40,000 way of spelling orc and not the real fantasy way right? Although, so many people get it wrong these days (a side effect from DoW I suppose) that I'm not sure why I even bring it up anymore.
I don't know what the 'real fantasy way' is, but Tolkien would probably have told you it's spelled "Orch" - since that's how his Sindarin-speaking Elves would have spelled it. I don't like the zerg-rush 'strategy' prevalent on RTS games because you miss out on the base building, resource gathering, and defense aspects of the game that I tend to enjoy. I feel that the game fails if I don't get to at least try to build and research all the units and techs. Also, my observance is that with the introduction of the Zerg in Starcraft, developers of RTS games must balance units so that the attacker gets the advantage. The alternative is that you can tu

Hmm. This is the 2nd topic where I get to talk about Squad Leader . SL and it's successor, Advanced Squad Leader had a focus on (as the game name implied) leadership and it's tactical impact in combat situations. This was factored into gameplay through '<a title="n. Vigorous spirit or enthusiam" href="http://www.merriam-we

I think there is a general lack of sophisticated and noble evil/dark/bad races in games. I tend to play good/light sides, but I also tend to jump at the (very rare) chance to play the bad guys if they're not wart-faced, snot-nosed, sniveling snide snakes living in decrepit hovels. That said, I do like the quality of what I see in the screenshot posted of The Fallen, so I have no specific critique for that. I guess I was hoping that the bad guys in this game might not be so

@Tamren: I think we're in the same ballpark, but differ perhaps in terms of the degree by which elevation impacts a combat result. I get the impression that you would prefer elevation to have a larger impact on an outcome of a combat round than I would. But that's ok, because I have exactly zero indication about how this game will organize a game turn, what variables are involved in movement and combat, or anything else that would lend itself to an informed opinion about t

My Caldari Kestrel, from EVE Online. Small, fast, cheap (like my women) and 4 hardpoints for missle launchers or whatever kit you wanted to tack onto it (also like my women). You can catch it in my old EVE forum sig image. Caldari Navy As a character with over 30 million skill points, I had access and skills to fly 'better' ships in that game. But getting my first Kes
Hi i need your help as i am looking for a good turn-based RPG.
Aren't we all? :) The 'best' I can think of are all old now and graphically inferior. These include all the Infinity Engine games that were mentioned in the thread, as well as Fallout 1 and 2. The next closest thing to a pure tur

I tend to be wary of, and don't really like, the concept that if you can pay more money you get an in-game advantage. You don't usually see someone throw down $20 and get an extra Queen to place on the board at the start of a Chess match.
My take is that this will mean consumers will lose in terms of value and have to pay more for less.
I'm inclined to agree that there is that r

Egosoft is in Germany. Distribution of the US version of X3:Terran Conflict is only through Steam. You can get UK DVDs through Deep Silver on Amazon and GoGamer.com and probably other channels now as well. The good news is that X3:Terran Conflict v2.0 is now in late beta. When X3:Reunion v2.0 was released - it was released with all the bonus content on a DVD that had the DRM removed. Since Egosoft removed their DRM after about a year into pro

I played Neverwinter Nights regularly maybe 4 or 5 years. I liked the custom content creation tools, and I think that's why the game has it's longevity (even today). Elemental needs GREAT world-builder tools so that the player community can develop content over the years. Exposing the game ruleset, art/media, maps, etc. would be awesome - so that players can create anything ranging from minor rule/item/unit tweaks to total conversions. I played Empir

The concept of elevation tiers reminds me of Squad Leader and Advanced Squad Leader. Hex board games I always wanted to master but could never find anyone to play a game with - or get my head wrapped around the billion-page long rule books. I'm exaggerating... but only slightly. But line-of-sight concepts in the game were awesome and actually pretty easy to implement in gameplay. A hex tile's terrain + any structure represented some elevation value between 0 (lowest

I *may* have the same error (.NET referenced in the eventvwr log). An earlier version of Fences was running sucessfully but it stopped working after an update about a month ago. Sympoms: no fences appear and an MS crash report prompt when trying to run "Customize Fences" to see if I can get it to run. Eventvwr log follows: Event Type: Error Event Source: .NET Runtime 2.0 Error Reporting Event Category: None Event ID: 5000<

No, enUS version of 32-bit XP Pro SP3. If your question is prompted by a need to track down some issue with Windows installs, I can say that my original install disk is XP Pro (initial release, OEM) and during my last (relatively recent system rebuild I used nlite to repackage it, along with service packs, and minus some 'cruft'. If you are interested from a troubleshooting/testing perspective and need more information about exactly what my system is in terms of OS, apps, config

Wish list: Fences wrangles shortcuts/icons. I wish Fences wrangled windows. My desktop usually has 3 explorer windows open (pointing to 3 file/folder locations) and an IRC client. This is before I start running apps like office, Firefox, etc. I would like to be able to min/max/move/resize opened windows like the Explorer and IRC client windows - but bounded by the Fences panels I would setup to contain each of those apps/windows.

I have Impulse installed, along with several games and apps purchased through Impulse. For this reason, I skipped Step 1 of the installation instructions received in email. I successfully registered the Fences reg key, and verified that the reg information saved by closing Impulse, re-opening it, and checking to ensure that it still displays something akin to: Fences [email protected] LotsOfSerialNumbers noneForExpirationDate That ta

I would open a ticket with support if a stardock blue doesn't come by your thread. The original problem I had getting TW:EE from Impulse was different than yours, so I hesitate to suggest what it was I ended up having to do, because while I was sorting that issue out last week, Impulse was updated at least once by Stardock. If I had to take one and only one wild guess, the first error " The operation has timed out." might be related to the problems Impulse has with BITS ser
