ARQUONZO Jesus said that his return and the "end of the age" would be within the lifetime of some of those present listening to him. And it was. All prophecy was fulfilled, a LONG TIME AGO. Arquonzo, you must be referring to St.Matthew 24:1-31 when you say that Jesus' return and the 'end of the age' would be in the lifetime of his disciples listening to him? If not, which Scriptural passage is it? In St.Matt. 24, Jesus spoke to His discipl

Christians often repeat the mantra, seek and ye shall find. I add find and you are lost. Ha, and you say, "There is no despair here. Zen Buddhism is a most optomistic practice." Do good, be good. Peace

The challenging, prpbably most challenging aspect of teaching Zen is the same challenging aspect, I think, in teaching Christianity. Ah, here the teacher in you is coming out and you would certainly know whether teaching Zen is challenging or not. I would agree that teaching Christianity is challenging, yet easy at the same time because Jesus is so lovable. He is also the divine origin and authority of the Catholic Church which has been for 2,000 ye

Thank you, Moderateman, for posting the article. It's resulted in some thought provoking discussion and this is good. Particularly in reference to the Christians, I take exception to your assertion of "no wonder that Christian and Muslims hate Jews so much". I deny that Christians,in general, hate Jews. I have every confidence that the Biblical verses that you quote are 100% inerrant as they were written by men under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. The problems t

Hello Sodaiho, You write, We say the dharma is and is not. We say form is empty, yet it is not. We say bad and good are, and yet, are not. We say there is no birth or death, and yet, obviously, there is. So, how is this possible? It is the appearance that is the illusion. Our brain, hardwired as it is, to see, sort, and store, in categories of similar and dissimilar, creates this illusion the moment we are born. The problem is, this illusion has form. As I was rea

KFC WRITES: We are called to be Priests to God. This is a reference to the OT Priests. What was the duty of the Priests? It was the Priests who went to God to worship for the Nation Israel. Only the Priests had direct access to Him. They were the ones to bring others to God helping them to be reconciled back to God when it was needed. Now in the NT we are called to such duty. We are called to worship God and to bring others as well. This job title was transferred to th

KFC POSTS: Rev 1:5 says our sins are washed by his blood. The word "washed" gives us an idea of something beeing loosened. It basically means or gives us the idea of our sin being loosened from us like Tide loosens dirt off our clothing. These are the verses from the Douay Rheims on which you make your comments. Apoc. 1:5-6, “And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of t

But one of the main differences in our beliefs is that mine is falsifiable. It can be proven wrong. Using the properties of time as we know it, we can demonstrate how 14 billion years is the most probable. However, if we find evidence that shows that this is not entirely correct, I'll throw away my belief in an instant. And this is the way it should be. Unfortunately, it is too often not the way it is out there in the real world. Take Dar

An uncle who calls for prayers for his nephew's sake must be a loving uncle to his nephew indeed. Prayers are very powerful and when prayer goes up by more than one, as in St. Matthew 18:20, then the prayer goes up in unity of the whole Church. My son is 18 and planning to join the Army National Guard as soon as school is out next month. They have told him for sure that he will see some duty in Iraq or one of those troubled areas. He seems undaunted. My nephew, 19, joined the Marines

REUELKB POSTS: Well, if we are to have no bias, we'll first look to the theory with the fewest assumptions, and therefore find *natural* means by which the big bang happened. And 14 billion years ago is simply when our dimension of time started to unfold. No one can even comprehend at the moment what it was like before the big bang, because there was no coherent dimension of time as far as we have figured. I've been reading Gerard Keane's book

John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be to you and peace from Him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne; and from Jesus Christ who is the faithful witness and the first begotten of the dead and the prince of the kings of the earth........" Isn't that cool? The word "Trinity" cannot be found in scripture as it is more of a modern term, but we can see it clearly as we exegete our way

I have a copy of the Book of the Apocalypse in Latin and I'm following along with that. Based on the early Church writers, Catholic commentary agrees that this number 7 is symbolic and that the Book is in fact addressed to the entire Church. They state that what the Lord says to His servant is addressed to the whole Church, "uni Ecclesiae septiforme" , a single Church of which these 7 are a symbol. It makes sense that it was given to the whole Church considering the backgroun

Yes, it was Sunday. The Lord's Day was never called the Sabbath but I wouldn't have a problem understanding what you mean if you were to say you are celebrating the Sabbath. It's just theologically correct to say Lord's Day rather than Sabbath. Isn't the Jewish Sabbath celebrated on Saturday?

KFC POSTS: There are four views in reading this book, and this is ver important as to how you translate this book. You meant how we interpret this book, right? The Book of the Apocalypse has been interpretated in many different ways over the centuries mainly because of the wealth of symbolism in the Book. The Apocalypse is a theological vision of the entire panorama of history, a vision which underlines its transcententa

KFC POSTS: The other date is 95 AD and John would have been exiled under Domitian. Domitian quite often used exile as a form of punishment. He too, as Nero, hated the Christians. This date is more acceptable to many for a variety of reasons. One, we can see the churches in the first three chapters are in trouble. If this was written by the earlier date, they were in trouble just as they were being built up. For instance 2 Timothy was written in 64 AD and was not writte

KFC, Ever since you mentioned it a while ago, I've been eagerly awaiting your writing on the Book of Revelation, what Catholics call the Apocalypse of St. John the Apostle. So, thank you for writing what promises to bring interesting discussion and debate. Even though the Catholic Church frequently reads The Apocalypse, particularly in the liturgy of the Holy Mass, I haven't read all 22 chapters from start to finish. Now, with your encouragement, I shall give that a go. <br

ZOO POSTS: As I see it people can be forced to encounter things they may not necessarily like or agree with a lot in life...it's not going to help to pitch a bitch about everything you don't like...that's immature. The point of my post was to be tolerant...tolerance does not demand that you have to like something, it only asks that you don't be a dick about it. ZOOLOGIST03 I don't know why people get so incensed about homosexuality...if it disgusts you, then stay away from it. Zoo--I wish it was this easy. KFC POSTS: His father, a preacher, is where he gets his courage from. His dad is always preaching to stand up for what is right. He preaches that if more Christians would stand up we wouldn't be in the mess that we're in today. Well said, KFC. This is true on many fronts. The first duty of Christian preachers, Catholic priests, indeed all Christians, is to stand up for Jesus Christ and God's moral laws on sexuality. Jesus gave all His followers (Chr
