Good ideas. I think that you should be able to at least target and destroy planetary improvements from space. It makes sense that if you can target and destroy armed space craft from far away you should be able to target and destroy a defenseless building from just out of planetary orbit. A consequence of such a destruction could be that some of the population is reduced. As far as transports are concerned, I start producing them as soon as I am able. I launch them when the producing pla

Thanks to all the great ideas from other players in this forum, I have some new strategies that work well. Normally I design the most effective, fastest, troop transport, colony ship, freighter, or constructor that my technology allows. As my technology improves, I redesign. I also have tiny hulls that can fulfill the same purpose. You can save money by employing tiny hulls with support modules. Here's some examples: I conquer an enemy world in a location central to a group of the
Just started as the Altarian with tech trading off - we shall see what happens I'm dying of creative curiosity here. Are you still cooking that session as the Altarians?
Here's one I'm working on. I got GalCiv 2 shortly after the death of my son's pet guinea pig Oreo. When I told him I could make my own race he suggested that I make one to remember Oreo. My avatar is the in game race portrait. I borrowed the Iconian backgroud, pasted a real picture of CAPT Picard's chair over it and then a picture of Oreo over that. I felt the game needed a race of good warriors to offset the Drengin. I gave them only military race abilities. I was thinking of that rabbit
Starstriker1 you are right (above I spoke on combat effectiveness). The cost for tiny ships is inaccurately reflected in the game. To give a modern world example a US destroyer costs about $1 billion (Arleigh Burke Class), and a US patrol craft costs $17 million (Cyclone class). The US operates smaller patrol boats which cost less than $5 million to produce each, depending on the type. In capability I would compare the patrol craft to the game's small hulle
smaller ships are always inferior to larger ones. that is pretty cheesy and unrealistic Hello. If I understand correctly, you are not pleased that smaller ships in the game are inferior to larger ships. I feel that the game is accurate in how it represents this. In the modern world a cruiser has distinct advantanges over the most well made patrol craft. The cruiser can carry more and better systems and has better survivability than the patrol craft.
I lost this mission several times. I finally completed the mission without cheating. I followed some of the things already stated. I researched like crazy and gave those techs to my allies, even for free when they lagged behind. I colonized the planets in the lower right hand corner. It seemed that the Dread Lords would get a taste for me every time they found me. I put Starbases to help streghthen my puny fleets defending my planets, so I could deal with their troop transports before they
I have run into this bug also. I click the ship and the "mission" (what I want it to do or the place I want it to go), and it wont move. This was corrected in my games by clicking again. I have noticed however that they move automatically as soon as they accept the command. I feel your pain. My colony ship with better engines and closer to the intended planet, lost to one of my allies colony ships when I did not notice that it was not moving <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smi
Here's another maybe to this list of maybes. In one scenario, while in the early stages of the game, I spoke with the Altarians to trade techs. The had phasors available. When I checked what techs thay had researched I noticed a large gap in their beams weapons tech. I checked the other races and no one was that far ahead. I have noticed this about them in one or two other occasions. Perhaps creativity has more impact for specific races. I haven't experimented with playing
When you speak to a civilization, right below the leader's picture is a drop down menu. Change it from view screen to techs to see what they have researched. This will help you to determine which weapons tech to encourage the AI's to develop.
