Not a new game, but if you haven't already you should look for the Fall from Heaven 2 mod for Civ IV. It turns it into practically a new game. It's still Civ IV of course, but with very different units and events.

It is rather too easy. Moreover the AI never seems to remember if you've broken alliances or failed to honour them. Yes they get put back from close to friendly if you do that.. but it's criminally easy to get them to close again and form an alliance. Making any real alliance commitments a joke - why go to war for your ally when he'll just forget all about your apathy and be your ally again in 10 turns?

It depends on their location for me. If they're near my core systems I exterminate them. I wouldn't want my citizens in such close proximity to vile alien scum, after all.. If they're near a border with another power, I'll keep them around for a while, bolster their military so they'll be a thorn in someone else's side. If they're far away I'll try to keep them alive as long as I can milk them for their economic/research treaties.

Well damn, as if the Good alignment wasn't already gimped. That's just silly. I usually play evil or neutral so this is the first I've heard of this. And yes, the Altarians are stupidly aggressive for a "good" faction. In my last game they declared war on me for no reason, and I was on the side of the map opposite theirs on a huge map. They were stuck between the Drengin and the Korath. Guess who decided to come to my aid after the Altarians declared war... hilarity ensued.

- The way it defends its planets needs to be addressed, it's been said many times so I won't go into detail suffice to say that the AI needs to know the power of putting ships in fleets, as opposed to just leaving them in orbit to be picked off 1 by 1. The real problem here is the orbital fleet manager. The AI is rather bad at building specialised buildings like this. If that were ch

I'd say the AI does need to consider more than just the military rating - it leads to some silly situations like the one I started this topic for. Lately I've gotten good at pumping up my rating, but now I get situtations like a recent one where I was at war with the Torians. I was the top military power, but they controlled an empire twice as large as mine, their economy was more stable (since I was playing a warmongering bully, cash was tight for me) and while they were no match for me I w

Yep I agree, along with some others; but I understand why the developers resist adding AI statements. First off they have to translate it into a bazallion languages, not to mention changing the code it's self Well it may be hard, but it *has* to be done. I'm sick and tired of the AI trampling over my territory whenever it feels like it. And the Super Isolationist ability just makes things worse, since the AI isn't dis

Keep in mind that upgrading all is a fast way to go mega-bankrupt. Even early upgrades can cost in the region of 40000+ bc. It's worth it to destroy or trade away some of them first.

Tch. Aren't they already aggressive? In my last game on tough, the Carinoids and Jessuins went around declaring war on the Terrans and Korath. They.. got their butts kicked, granted. But they were.. aggressive.

2. If you leave, you can't trade with other races.. ever. This will hurt your economy if it gets a boost from trade routes. 3. Each form of government provides more economy bonuses than the last. Rather simplistic really. The only catch is that you must have a high approval rating to keep your party in control of the senate in the yearly votes; and to declare war. Still this is rather easy, at 80% approval in a Star Federation my guys always win and as long as your party is in control th

Those are awesome. Though I don't think the first ship there is an O'Neill but rather the weaker variant seen in the first battle against the Ori. It's smaller and doesn't have the O'Neill's hammerhead bow. Yes, I am nitpicking. Still great work though.

Technically there are tax dodgers on your worlds who don't contribute to anything and thus aren't counted. But they do exist. That's what the quarterly report on population always says anyway. Not that I could envision tax dodgers on *my* worlds, tyrannical as I am. Such people would be caught and ejected into space.

So here is a question. Why do the stupid Terrans get to define what a parsec is and what it isn't? I would think that it would be standardized with all races and beings in the galaxy but I must digress, this is a game after all. Terrans invented hyperdrive and so get to tell all those dirty smelly inferior aliens how to make their maps. Hey, it's a better excuse than most sci-fi stories get.

I recently encountered this problem right after installing the Hi-Res mod. But after a couple of Ctrl Ns it seems to have fixed itself. Actually it's odd because now most worlds I colonise have far more special tiles than they've ever had before. On the other hand, space resources seem to have completely vanished. Poof. Gone. None for me or the AI. No matter how many times I restart. This happened at the same time the bonus tiles problem fixed itself. Really weird.

Those people aren't very bright, frankly, those things end up class 16 in no time. At high tech levels they're among the best planets in the game. At which point you don't really need them. And if you somehow do, it's easy as hell to culture flip them or invade. As an aside, I just saw the Terran AI pass up a class 16 world to colonise a class 2. As in, the coloniser flew right past the class 16.<br

If you trade with a minor race and always sell them plenty of techs, they normally keep up quite well. I also like to sell my weaker ships to them once my fleet support costs start getting a bit high. Indeed. I sold several fleets of obsolete heavy fighters and frigates to the Carinoids in one game, and they provided an excellent buffer against a Drath invasion that kept some of my best economy star

In my experience, they *will* take class 1s. If there's nothing else left. Why take a class 1 when there's a class 16 nearby? Or even a class 8 toxic. I'll take that over a bloody class 1, and the AI does the same. This does not mean they won't; in one game where I made all my home system's planets habitable in the .xml, the smallest was a class 1 that I didn't bother with. Later on, some Korath idiot comes along and colonises it! Of course, it flips to me exactly one turn later. So

My latest game on Challenging has turned out rather interesting, the Arceans smacked the Drengin around to the point where they're stuck in a corner of the galaxy trying to survive. The Korath are powerful but the Torians and Altarians are keeping them occupied. The Drath would've been the major power if not for me; they conquered half of Krynn territory before I decided to declare war. Now the Krynn are back on their feet and taking back worlds. So right now, the Arceans and Altarians are t
