I'd say you should put in more opponents. I play with the full 9. This increases the number of allies you can get and targets for the warmongers out there; so if the Drengin are on the warpath there are 7 other races apart from you they can fight. But in the end you're probably going to go to war with *somebody*. And don't give into extortion. It just makes you look weak and they declare war soon anyway.

In any case, I have to say the Jagged Knife event is a lot worse. Suddenly my best planets are arbitrarily assigned to these tossers? Bah! It really should be something like planets that are below 70% approval revolt. But not my core worlds with 100%!
You're all arguing realism in a game where space is 2D, factories are bigger than Japan, Venus doesn't exist and planets which don't orbit their stars are just a short hop away from each other. Explain to me how mines wouldn't work in GalCivII's 2D plain.
This has probably already been said.. but I want Terror Stars damnit. Yeah, they're pure cheese. But then so are spore ships. The difference being that spore ships aren't cool. Also, I'd like an option to tell other civilizations to get their ships out of my territory. It really irritates me how some jackass alien colony ship can waltz into the heart of my empire and take a planet just like
If you set a miner to automate it should take care of it all for you. If you have say two asteroid fields, it'll flit back and forth building and upgrading. This takes a long time so by the time it's done you usually have the next space mining tech. Though if not you can always park it nearby and automate it again later. Saves a lot of hassle.
I noticed this. The Drengin and the Korath are totally the Ur-Quan Kzer-Za and Kohr-Ah. Enslavers vs. genocidal maniacs. C'mon. Korath. Kohr-Ah. Not fooling anyone, guys. I love these similarities though.
This is my first attempt to make a ship resembling the style of ships from Star Ocean:
For me it's usually the Drengin or Drath that end up in dominating positions, with the Korath trailing behind and wanting to ally with me against the Drengin. Which is somewhat odd really. What happened to your beliefs, Korath! Did the Kohr-Ah ever stoop to the level of seeking help!? No they didn't, you pale Ur-Quan imitations! *rants on and on for a while*
Those shouldn't let you "jump". This, of course, doesn't make sense with the implemented interstellar travel system - it would with stargates though. Well who's to say they are? 1 parsec/week may represent crawling along at sublight. Of course, it's still too fast in real terms but GCII isn't very realistic when it comes to interstellar distances.
Leaving out engines is a good way to make "orbital drones" to keep attackers busy. Just load them up with weapons and defenses, no need to bother with engines, life support, etc. In technical terms, I'd say all ships come with sublight thrusters by default. Hyperdrive engines are only needed to get your ships to their destination before everybody grows old and dies.
I see. Oh well. How about an Influence version though? Especially seeing as how influence bases are fugly and it would perhaps simulate a population on the planet better. Just a suggestion..
There is some good advice in this thread. One thing I do to get my economy going ASAP is to keep taxes DOWN so I get morale at 100%, thus pop growth at the double-bonus. Then, use an extra colony ship or two to ferry people from your homeworld (with the highest pop) to newer colonies that are trying to get going. The difference between trying to build pop up from 500 million or from 1 billion (or from 2 billion), is huge. Things just st
Kind of reminds me of the assassination event. Whenever I get that, I initially think, "Hey, why would I do that?" Then I think, "Cool, this is a pretty realistic event!" It is cool.. though lifted right out of Master of Orion. This game does like it's complicated, sinister events. Once I had the Iconians declare war on me because I at
Is this mod supposed to replace the original economy starbases though? I'm not really fond of that and would rather have both. :/
Hmm.. I have started to build engineless attack platforms to stop pesky raids on my outer systems. Maybe I'll step construction of those up and see if that helps, thanks.
Don't get me wrong - I'm well used to the stubborn Black Knight type of AI ("I just took your homeworld!" "Twas but a minor planet.") Actually GalCiv II has been quite refreshing up till now in that enemies knew when they were beaten and grovelled accordingly. Or at least gave good reasons for wanting war (i.e. after randomly breaking treaties with the Terrans, they told me I'm winning but they won't sign a peace with me just so I'll break it again) I don't expect the Drengin of all people t
*sigh* It's not because they have fleets upon fleets of completely useless laser-equipped fighters that do nothing but give my battleships free experience is it? Because I *know* they have less battleships and frigates than me, and at this point I have the galaxy's only dreadnought. I had assumed that military power takes into account the quality of ships and not quantity. Was I mistaken?
On the one hand, it's not fun and frustrating. On the other hand, in my last game where it happened nobody got to run away from my Lucky Ranger. On the other hand, it's unbalancing as it makes engine techs completely useless. And on the other hand.. I seem to have four hands.
Or, you know, not. See, in my latest game I've been at war with the Drengin for ages and I've won almost every battle. They have a slight technological edge but my ships are generally better. I've taken territory from them. I've blown up their best starbases. I even sent an expedition to successfully invade the Drengia system. So their homeworld is toast. Their fleets are no match for mine. I can harass their commerce at will. I can take worlds from them whenever I please. So *why*
