I've just finished a 1.6 beta 3 DA match. Either I'm getting better or the AI gets dumber every game I play. I'm playing on Tough with maximum CPU usaged enabled. There are a couple of things the AI really can't handle well. Some examples: Economy and morale: AI seems to get trapped into a raise taxes, build morale buildings loop. While I usually customize my races with a morale bonus, I don't think 7 Entertainment Networks are needed on a farmless planet if one

Setting the slider first to 100%, then 50%, then 10% - I start a new game and get to the planet screen. Then Control-N and get back to the planet screen, etc x9. Since you spend 16 hours each day away fron work, you have used up 170 days, leaving only 91 days available. Meaning 91 days of uninterruptible work. so your available working time is down to 15 days. We generously give 14 days vacation per year which leaves only 1 day available for work 14 days of vacation. On each such day, you would work 24 - 16 = 8 hours, which is a third of a day. So 14 days vacacti

The trapezoid in the minimap which shows the currently visible area in the mainscreen is still positioned incorrectly. If zooming the minimap in and out, the position changes by what seems to be half a screen. It's simple to reproduce: Scroll to a position where there's a star at the edge of the screen. On the minimap, the trapezoid should intersect said star. Zoom the minimap and see it jumping around. If scrolling around, it jumps back into the correct position immediately.

Russia will be bankrupt soon (and this time they mean it!) and some european banker could just buy it for an apple and an egg.

One spy, multiple spies. Spies serve two purposes: Either to spy on your enemy or to nullify enemy spies. If your enemy has lots of idle spies or a very high spy spending, he can quickly nullify your spies if you are spying on him. So for successful spying, make sure to use many spies, you need to deplete your enemy's spy pool. It usually helps to collect half a dozen spies and to apply them all at once. Personally I focus on economy buildings, that makes it more difficult for

Related, sometimes ships will not revert to their 2D Style Icons when zoomed out to Tactical view. They stay in their 3D model and become very very tiny. Now that you mention it, I think I might have seen it as well. Didn't really notice it in the heat of the war

- Ships become invisible if multiple on the same spot Does this happen consistently for you? Is it only if they are different models, or something like that? Yes, happens often. It can be two of the same ship models or completely different ones, even fleets (e.g. combat fleet + transporter fleet on same spot). Ships become invisible even if zooming out to tactical view. There's a whole thread about this

I just finished a game with 1.6 beta 2. Here are my findings: - Ships become invisible if multiple on the same spot - The gold slider in the trade window behaves strange if you have debt - If zooming the minimap in, the trapezoid indicating the visible mainscreen doesn't display properly. It gets smaller instead of larger.

Great read, you made me want to play another game of GC2. Hear this Galaxy, after lunch I'll take a quadrant of my own Like Wyndstar already asked, how did you get that asteroid belt? Since you're playing the beta (plague event would have been fatal for the AI otherwise), could it be a new feature of 1.6?

So true. The pre-release hypes and the lack of support after release are the biggest problems. Not only for games, but for many other products as well, be it software, hardware or things unrelated to computers at all. First of all there's a hype. Games get announced when they are still in beta stages. Features are announced which are impossible to hold. In the case of games it would be insane graphics, a revolutionary gameplay and so on. Especially if it's a sequel to another product, t

IMHO, the most dangerous person in Germany is Wolfgang Schäuble (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfgang_Sch%C3%A4uble), our Minister of the Interior. He's actively working on abolishing human rights. Bad thing is that the leading political parties support him. He earned himself the nickname "Wheelchair dictator".

I've almost finished a game where I went 1/1/98 on tough difficulty, 9 AI races, maxed CPU usage. My research was through the roof, economy was solid just ship production was somewhat slow. I didn't need many ships though since I played Arcean with their super warrior ability. Upgrading existing ships was all I needed most of the time. It worked like a charm until the point I got invention matrix. At that point my economy collapsed. Despite 80% taxrate (2 moral starbases helped

I just had a very strange game. I've been playing as Arcean in the center of a large map. Suddenly it was decided in a secret meeting that my threat has become too big or so. Result was that I got into war with nearly everyone. I barely managed to survive using only a handful of ships (Super Warrior is incredible if used right). Couple of turns forward: The Dreadlords arrive! Directly next to a planet where I had just finished a transporter. Mega Event: Altarians becoming a

I've just played my first game as Arceans (DA 1.5) and I love this ability. For some reason, none of the other races seemed to bother much researching engines or putting some of them on their ships. So what I did was simple: Medium hulls with no engine and pew pew lazers The result was quite devastating, I rarely lost a ship. Only when standing next to a heavily defended planet some enemy

I'm not an AI expert but I am a programmer. Making an AI use bonus tiles correctly and building factories before power plants should be a rather easy task I think. I haven't noticed any wastes bonus tiles yet, but I've seen way to many tech/manu/eco capitals on totally unsuited planets. Fixing this problem will likely increase AI strengh a fair amout.
