You can idle a shipyard. There's a button toward the bottom of the shipyard screen that says to shut down or something like that. It'll stay idle until you tell it to resume. You can also set the production sliders on all of the assigned planets to 100% social, but that's a pain. If you want to shut down all of your shipyards, you can set the global slider to 100% social as long as all of your assigned planets are using the global one. I don't

You and I were writing at the same time. 1. Food raises your pop cap. It doesn't help you grow faster though. 2. +X Food does one of several things. If it's on a tile, it adds +1 pop capability if you put a farm or other pop building there. If it's on a building, it raises your pop level by 1. If it's an adjacency bonus, it adds +1 pop capability to a farm or other pop building that's built next to it. 3. &

I like pirates. I use them to protect my planets early on. If you build a sensor ship (a cargo ship with a bunch of sensors), you can see out a good distance. Your colony ships should be a tad faster than pirates and you can go around them. I like to use a fast scout or constructor to move the pirates to where I want them. Just move close enough that they notice you, but just outside their movement range. They'll follow you around like puppy dogs. Just jet ou

I forgot to mention - I stay zoomed out to the icon level, but not all the way out. That way, I can still see what's going on and also be able to go to an empty map area when I need to. I've read somewhere that zooming in can slow things down a lot. I'll test out zooming in to see if it makes any difference, but in my current game, I'm at the end of mopping up. Most of the ships out there are mine and I don't spam military ships. I never see
OK, I get it! Spam nothing but colony ships. Colony ship rush. If that's actually is the only way to win on large maps, then it almost seems like a game flaw... Yes, spamming colony ships as fast as possible is probably a good way to get ahead of an AI on territory, but you still have to actually do the research to get ships and weapons. Hmmmm. OK, I'm going to try both ways and s
No buildings at all? What? Or did you mean not building them? Building Maintenance is a pittance, so surely that can't be the reason right? (I tend to pick the trait that increases it for bonus points in my custom factions ^^)
It works if you're doing extreme colony rushing. Each new colony adds production that you can balance so it costs nothing while adding research and manufacturing to your empire. Once

I hadn't thought of battles between turns. I do mine during the turn. Yes, that would be maddening. I'm not a fan of the little time wasting mini battles that happen when you choose "Quick Battle". It's not quick when you still have to wait through the useless animation. I read somewhere that they cut that time down and even thanked them for it, but I'm not seeing any improvement. Why, oh why would someone come up with a delay timer like that? &nbsp

The graphics in GalCiv3 don't seem to be all that demanding to me. They're not exactly high def. I'd think getting more memory would be the key to a faster game here. I started out with 8GB and I also play on a laptop that has 4GB and integrated graphics. The laptop is very slow, but handles the game. I upgraded my desktop in steps from 8 to 16 and finally 32GB. I saw a vast increase in perfomance with 16GB, including no more crashes to desk
Dan, what exactly is a "soak" game. I know it's using the codes. Explain please, I'd like to see how my various choices effect the game.
I had some trouble looking that one up, too. Google was no help. Evidently, there's a command you can use called "soak" that makes the machine play the game automatically and without human input. I still don't know exactly what it stands for, but tha

The AI starts cheating above normal. There's a list of cheats it gets somewhere in the forums. I didn't find it bad on anything below "suicidal" though. With the 1.1 opt in, the difficulty names were changed and I'm using the old 1.03 naming convention. Giving the AI a slight edge is worth it IMO. It kinda needs it now, although I'm starting to see the AI using ships that I designed in prior games against me. It's even using my naming convention,

I'm wondering if they shuffled the difficulties a bit when they added the new one in at the high end. I typically play with gifted AI, but am currently seeing genius AI playing about the same as the gifted ones did prior to 1.1. I'm playing vanilla races against vanilla races. I don't know what to say about the pirates. They seem to be about the same as before on my current game.

I don't have personal experience, but evidently, the .pages extension can be exchanged with the .zip extension and the file should be readable. Just make sure you do it with a copy of the file first. http://osxdaily.com/2014/07/16/open-pages-format-file-in-windows/

Yeah, they're pretty easily provoked. I like that about them, since I know it's a short matter of time before they declare war on me. It leaves the guesswork out. They're usually fairly powerful for some reason too. When I played as them, I thought their tech tree was kinda weak. The Krynn have pretty much the same social skills, although I've seen them smiling before. (A few turns before they started their standard scowl.) In fact, I've seen a go

I've had a few crashes, all but one were when I was trying to do more than one thing at a time. For instance, I get a CTD when I try to move a fleet to attack while another is moving to attack if I do it several times quickly. Doesn't matter if it's to attack another fleet or a planet. I've learned to slow myself down, but it's a tad frustrating waiting on the movements and what appears to be an artificial long delay when resolving "quick" battles. Pe

I suggest ditching it and going with straight up vodka. If you spill it (and you will), it just evaporates and leaves no stain. Easy-peesy. :)
