when you zoom out from a planet, just before the individual icons make way for the more astracted view (with the three bars left right and bottom), I feel that the starbase icon (at least the tec one) is just too large, it blocks too much view. I'll get you a screenshot, but I can't find any of those I made in the folders (where the saves games and records are stored). when I figure it out and you still need one, you'll get it. ok, last one for today.

not really from as far as I could see. the vasari seemed to make an effort, but that may have also been more of a coincidence given it sometimes happens if they leave their scouts alone a bit. all those mines kept me from losing (so far) my first entrenchment game, bc I had no real planets in the vicinty.

if I select a grav well that would otherwise be uncolonisable, but has a starbase in it, I'd like the game to directly select the starbase. then I'd have quicker and thus easier access to ship building options, upgrades and stuff. it's more tedious to open the empire tree and select the starbase in the well than just selecting the well.

as it is with the planet view, I'd like to be able to see how many upgrades in a specific category are possible for a starbase. such as weapons module (0/2), stuctural integrity (0/3), and so on. sure, you find out over time, but it's tiresome to keep track of it and the display of it helps beginners too. and as far as I looked the information was not really available anywhere.

I constucted a starbase in a an asteroid belt and the empire tree did not automatically make it sticky. is this intended behavior? in any case, when I do construct one, I would like it show up in the empire tree. after all I build it to keep an eye on things and for easy access, so I also want to be able to control via the empire tree what is going on.

the tabs for building ships used to be frigate - cruiser - capship. now, its capship - frigate - cruiser. is there any logic behind this? otherwise I'd prefer the original way, because it ascended in power. and without a good reason to chance it, I don't see a reason to.

haven't played all races, but for tec you build them like tactical structures and there you build them in fields of ten. the tec ones do seem to have a too narrow actication range imo though. but I'll make a post tomorrow on that.

9 Replies 3,753 Views

yeah, the range seemed a bit foo small to me too. after all the point is to build something that cannot be passed by so easily. otherwise, strength wise I think they are fairly good. I was surprised to see them start so cheap and comparatively weak. they may even be a bit too cheap, at least compared to caps which have a bit less shield and substantially less damage. but are of course mobile.

strike craft are probably squadrons. as in figher and bomber squadrons. so, you'd have to play with basically no carriers and you must not let your capships build them, if they could get them. at least that is my guess. sounds like fairly difficult with the 1.1 balance. at least anything like a skilled opponent. flaks alone won't really do the job and lf don't kill the carriers fast enough. yeah, surely challenging.

the rebellion should definately get something like the 'insurgency' tech from the current tec. maybe also that vasari tech 'slave labour' that lowers cost for units would work, of course under a different name like 'independence fighter discount' or whatever. likewise, the alliance may be more about resource efficiency, since they don't have that many, so you might give them more and earlier resource upgrades. furthermore, with a more decentralised and losely based structure,

Yes! I hope that means that the attention can now be fully shifted to other matters. thanks a lot for your efforts, this must have been a terribly annoying error hunt and those types of things where you work and work and have no results to show for it, because you can't find the source of the problem is so frustrating.

depending on the situation though, it might also help if you ordered your carriers to keep strike craft docked as long as they are still in construction. that way they don't get shit down one by one and when you have them like 80% or so complete you can release a new, big swarm to attack anew. though I have my doubts that battles last long enough for a full rebuild of that kind, but if you have enough other forces it could work. else, retreat is probably a good idea. no need to lose t
