I wish that military force was implemented only as a last resort, or at least only used for aggressive empires. Basically this game still boils down to how strong you are militarily. We intend to really bump up the non-military options in the 2nd expansion pa

why not? if anyone player rise of legends, I think it was solved very nicely there. you had a series of neutral cities and you could either conquer them or buy them out and the buyout price would get lower if you set up trade convoys with them until they eventually joined you straight out. so, implemented in some way, I'd love the idea.
One of the dev's said they played around with bigger planets, but it got in the way of the camera.
not so much artistically, but gameplay wise (so that not every single desert planet was the same except for those few explorable bonuses). I was thinking more of like a big one being maybe 150% size and a small one 75%. and since the gas giants are already considerable larger that wouldn't be so much of an issue.
wait a sec isnt that a phase gate in the gap?
I don't see the actual phase gate structure, but I do see the effect that looks like the phase gate one. I think. that may be it. the vasari base either comes with a functional phase gate or can be equipped with one. which would be really convenienty considering you can set this thing up even in enemy grav wells. and it kinda makes sense lore-wise. that would totally
is it that different? it's just another perspective. probably the same broadcast tower we saw in pic two in the background. the two parts may be a bit further apart and there is no energy line linking them, but that's about it. other than that I don't see how they look different. I mean maybe this baby is like the galaxy class of star trek. part of it can detach itself and fly around, who knows?
That looks really neat, cool design! But what's that ... Bubble under the main structure? In the third screen it's attached by some energy beam, which isn't there in the first shot. Ah, I can't wait to play it myself
as a matter of fact, I think it IS there in all shots. it seems like this is just the way the starbase is, de facto two elements. maybe that is part of what makes it so special .

sweet. now, that's a curious structure, from the looks of it, the thing must be massive! you know, maybe the guys here (including myself) would be a bit happier, if we knew what exactly caused or is causing the delay and what tasks, what stuff has still to be done before the release. you don't need to give us a time estimate, but if we knew what issues still have to be resolved, we would understand better and appreciate your efforts more I think.
is it just me or does the 'presenter' sound totally gay. not that have a problem with it, but it sounds just ... funny. well, one of the more ... unconventional news here.

I can imagine this being of some use when applied to team mates in multiplayer. you instantly see how your guys are doing resource-wise.
yes there is. tactical and logistic slot can increased planet specific with the respective upgrades. the type of planet dictates how many upgrades and this how many slots in total you can have. desert planets have the most logistics slots, terran planets also have quite a bit, the come ice and volcanic worlds and asteroids have least. there is also a tech for tec which increases logistics slots throughout your empire and a tech for advent that increases tactical slots througho
for a little more planet variety, what would you think of a second parameter size, next to the existing one type? what about 'small ice worlds', 'huge desert planets', 'big asteroids'? the sizes then also changes the underlying parameters, such as pop size, logistics space, tactical space and stuff. that way, we have a bit more variety with a fairly easy way and it probably can be balanced, so that players are not disadvantages vs one another. those types are then further diversified
if the game really does not already do this, then it definately should. especially a retreat order has to stay after the use of any of those abilities. I dunno, would it matter if you own capship used an ability, a defensive one, like the kol shield? would that reset orders too? in that case that path should be attended to also.
Something like that. I also toyed with the idea to have each and every ship drop a few lowpoly, recognizable big chunks when they explode, something simmilar to what happens with capital ships.
they do? I mean sure, some chunks fly, but some big as in the pegasus going down in bsg. something the size of like a third or fifth or the entire ship?
I' fine with background sounds and you know there is always the argument that is space there is no sound. of course in space there also should not be explosions like this I guess, but whatever. what I would to add and what I saw here mentioned as well is that apart from purely artistical value, unit sounds and battle chatter may in fact become an important element in gameplay. because it can and should comment on the course of a battle. for example, if you heard one of ships go 'the e
nope, you're doing it right, as far as I know, the 'income lost to underdevelopment' designates the time you have red, negative income from a freshly colonised planet. the first pop upgrade should really be ordered as soon as the planet is colonised, because otherwise you have a big drag on your econ. bigger planets also require a second one to get you completely out of the red numbers, so that's a priority too then. the rest is up to you and your requirements. so ... if you let sevea
Thank you for your comments Shadowhal, and yeah its been rolling around my head too. I wish the TEC would follow their lore more. And I think it would really add to the diversification of the races. Because to be honest research aside the races are just carbon copies of ships with new models and stats. With a unique super weapon to each race. I understand a need for balance, but not at the cost of diversification. And abilities can not be
So here's and idea, Make the Original Kol (Slightly less stats then the current one, but same abilities), Akkan, and Dunov the default capital vessels available at purchase in the beginning of the game. And then make the Marza, Sova, and the newer Kol (Higher stats in all areas representing the culmination of weapons and development research, and give it new abilities) requiring research, thus justifying a weapons boost for them. Particularl
yeah, the old Kol looked cool too, bit like the omega destroyers though (yes, from B5). in general, the 'mark 2' idea is actually fairly decent, something in that direction could be cool.
actually, now that I think of it, there is something I do want. I'd like a straight combat ship in the capital ship class. not something like a kol which does to a good deal depend on its abilities, but a real, no-thrills fighting machine, like a kodiak on the next level. without any abilities to speak of, it obviously has to be a good deal tougher, both on the offensive side and the defensive side, but I always felt the capships here were too much about abilities and such which often
will these upgrades for existing defenses like point defense and hangars be via a tech and affect all existing units alike (which for me sounds hard to balance, as it would be an extremely valuable strategy) or do they unlock the ability to upgrade them (a bit like zerg defenses in starcraft or humand and undead defenses in wc 3)? the latter would produce a lot of micro though. it was already kinda annyoing to build the towers first and then upgrade them all one by one. I surely would not wan
