Forgive my asking, but why do you need these? Might you, as I hope, be developing a piece of software to rename files from Zip to whatever extension? (I *hate* how windows XP makes it well nigh impossible to rename files; I always go through the command prompt).

I've got a great little laptop that I received for graduation. The only problem with it is that it is a laptop, so I can't upgrade it without some major pain. I'd love to install a decent video card so I can use some of the cool screensavers, and upgrade my harddrive so I can keep more of this great wincustomize stuff locally (without deleting my massive collection of music that I've copied from CD's). ::shru

I'd love to skin WMP sometime, but I don't have any idea how! I looked at the Microsoft website, but it doesn't look like it has enough information about the definition file to create a decently functioning skin. (I may be wrong; I didn't read it carefully yet). Has anyone written one (If not, would the Skins Factory be so kind as to do so? Please? Please? ) Thanks!

No, sorry, it didn't make sense. I just know that when I ctrl-drag on a menu (say, Internet Explorer or Notepad) nothing happens. It does work with stuff in OB; I can make my control panel an actual panel on the desktop now. It just doesn't with other programs.

ARGH! Something is wrong with WinStyles! Every time I try to load it, it says, "We're sorry, but WinStyles has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." So, I open up component manager, and Voila! I find the new version of WinStyles (1.31 I think). So, I install it, and it gives me the same error message. I then uninstall the first version, and try to uninstall the second versions. It won't let me, because it thinks that they don't exist, so I delet

Bryan: Actually, IE works quite well with AOL. Since I've gotten WebBlinds, I use IE exclusively. And, incidentally, I wouldn't touch AOL's search with a ten foot pole. You might be more familiar with an older version of the AOL software or something, because I use a couple of the programs you mentioned. I will look into netzero though.

The reason why my parents (who pay for my 'net connection, so I won't complain) choose AOL as their service of choice is because they don't know where to find a better service at the same or lesser price. If you would care to suggest one instead of just bashing AOL, then I'd be glad to hear it. I'll also confess my ignorance and ask: What do you mean by a "dialer"? Do you mean that it uses a dial up connection instead of broadband? Are you aware that you can use AOL with a cable/DSL mo

More seriously: How do you get WinFX to work? Do you have to go through and tell it to make every application transparent, or is there some command that I missed that makes everything transparent in one shot?

I've been toying with putting together a skin for WindowBlinds/ObjectBar for a while, but my skin idea will not work without semi-transparency. Does WindowBlinds support PNG files? Is this coming in an upcoming version of WindowBlinds? I know you can do full transparency with MagicPink, but is there a semi-transparency option, like in DesktopX? -Regis

I've been trying to use winstyles to save my current theme, and I keep getting an error message ("Winstyles has encountered a problem and needs to close..."), and then it closes. I'm running XP and most of the Object Desktop stuff. Any ideas?

I didn't respond in the poll, but I've only started customizing recently. I love skinning-I've bought WindowBlinds, and plan to get Object Desktop as soon as I can afford it (college students have no money). I just now have gotten into it because I got a laptop as a graduation present. I had tried using WB a year or two ago for my 366Mhz computer I won in a contest a while back, but it was slow and buggy then. WinXP + WB advances=a stable, great program! BTW, if it had not been for thi

The JPG technology is essentially public domain by now. I have programs that use JPG tech, and I obviously will not pay extra to use what I have on my computer for my purposes. If they wanted to keep it for themselves and sell it, then they should have done so in the begining.
