I have mad respect for Valve and their practices, so in a sense, I guess I'm a bit spoiled from their awesome service. I'll end it there, so as to not sound like an advertisement for previously mentioned great company.
Yea, make sure you pick up Left 4 Dead 2. Another $50 for a "sequel" to a game that was barely more than a mod of a mod of a mod. Say hi to Gabe Newell in the Steam forums while you're at it. Oh wait, no, sorry I forgot, Valve doesn't pa
Why are some of you sticking up for Stardock? Honestly?
I'd stick up for them partly because people are focusing all their blame on them and not on the people who actually made the game, Gas Powered Games. They are both working hard on it but when push comes to shove, it's in GPG's hands.
I think some people forget that Gas Powered Games is the developer. Stardock's only the publisher. Stardock can only fix things as fast as it can make GPG fix them.
Game works great out of the box. Being able to connect to other people to play isn't a fault in what is in the box but the servers between that handle connections. Seems to happen with every game I buy. Hell, I had trouble playing Dawn of War 2 because my Steam connection didn't work. I was mad but I didn't ascribe it to a buggy game. This is much the same except as Xan mention the game was only released yesterday.
I agree. I've never bought a game where there's so many company people on helping. Frogboy stayed up 2 day straight with people on IRC helping people. That floored me!
If I were writing for rock, paper, shot gun I would probably say that Demigod is the funnest PC game that's come out in a very long time. Every critique you will find of Demigod will likely still conclude that the game is hella fun even when it's against just computer players. The Demigod beta is not perfect. I have a long list of things i'd like to see in it for the future. But Demigod can't be compared to some idealized game. It can only be compared to other games that peopl
Good post. I think there will be a lot of lively discussions on items and strategies. Agree with Xan, PossiblyImpossible, you're schtick is getting old.
Yeh, I don't think Stardock is going to get the kudos it deserves with the game connectivity. Demigod is the first and only p2p game I've played. I was never able to host a Warcraft 3 game, still can't do this day, but I can play Demigod.
I think you're exaggerating by saying it's such an amazing game minus the issues, though. If it were possible to consistently play low-lag to lagless multiplayer games with no disconnect issues, then this game would be both addictive and fun. But I'm not yet convinced of two very important things: competitive depth and long-lasting appeal (which is tied to the depth).
If you can name a funner real time strategy game in recent memory I'd like to hear it.
I'm really enjoying this one. I can't believe this game has come so far so fast.
How much damage did they do before versus now? They seem the same to me.
I only got to play a little bit this afternoon but I agree. It feels good. I can't remember the last time I've had this much fun with the game. I do hope they keep working on the computer AI but otherwise, it's playing nicely. Great work!
It's amazing how short the memories some people have. Steam isn't #1 because people chose Steam. Steam is #1 because Counterstrike became a phenonenon, a game Valve didn't make, Valve bought the game and then forced players to install Steam to continue to play it. That gave them an instant million plus user base. Steam is where it is because they forced people to use it in the beginning. Steam provided no added benefit to Counterstrike players. Stardock is using
Whether it's Mac nuts or Steamed nuts it is always obnoxious to watch people root for one corporation over another. I've seen people, even on these forums, wish that Stardock wouldn't make Impulse and just put their stuff on Steam. When Impulse came out last summer it sucked hard. Now, it's starting to get good. They need to start adding some of the community features. I wish there was an open GamerID thing that I could share between Steam Impulse GFW Xfire and everything.
