Definitely nay to your question windex. I've liked the story so far and I've read several sci-fi books which start out a bit confusing but clear up as time goes on. Its a good technic for keeping the curious reader engaged and wanting to find out what's happening. I think with this chapter and the backstory pithlit gave I have a fairly good idea of what's happening. Besides Windex, this is just the exoposition right now an
A miner with over 40 kids working all day, mining for coal, to feed his family.
To be honest, for a while their I thought this was covering some non-human species. However, since it is covering humans I understand and agree with Ron's point. Obviously much of sci-fi is just that, fictious. However, some elements of plausibility are needed otherwise people are just confused. I will totally understand if you call that a typo and say that you meant only 4 kids. <img src="sm

Well I'd hate to comment too much before more is out, but a question that I'm assuming will be eventually answered is if this society is such a paradise and totally united...who are the giant warships defending against?

Nuke the ants...that'd probably work. Or if not irradatig the entire world is such a high priority, naplam them (non-nuking fun suckers).

Holy crap you guys talked alot while I was gone. Ok now to clear up some appearent misunderstandings.
A single communication satelite (not even the probably more exspensive power satelites we're talking about) costs 80 million dollars to build and put up in space again you're off topic here, thats like an AT&T satellite, not a military one.
My point was that communication satellites cost
have you ever even heard of the term relative cost? relative expense?
Indeed I have. But consider this. China's per captis GDP does not matter in how many missiles they could afford to build. Only their actualy GDP. Luxemborg has a higher per captia GDP than the US, yet even if Luxemborg had access to the ocean they could not afford to build more aircraft carriers than the US (or any really) because their actual GDP is so low. China's GDP (using Purchasing Power Parity) i

Have you guys ever seen Man of the Year? Maybe its happening in real life! P.S.: Though probably not... P.P.S.: For those of you who didn't see Man of the Year, the premise is that a comedian (Robin Williams) runs for the office of the presidency. SPOILER ALERT: In the end Robin Williams wins but only because the voti

Two things, First to TGE, Three trillion dollars missing from the iraq war budget... You do realize that would encompass more then we've spent in Iraq so far...as a matter of fact three trillion dollars is about as much as the federal government spends in an eniter year. Second to Schod, Earlier this year China built and successfully tested a missile capable of shooting down a satelite. http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/space/01/18/china.missile/index

Quit arguing as no one knows who is right unless somebody puts up a replay or a third party who was in the game solves this problem in person (no well so-and-so said this crap). All this comes down to is "no, you're wrong!" "no, you're wrong!"

Freedom of Information Act requires all budgets to ben accurate. Meaning that nothing can just be 'unacounted for' if they are ussing it for a black budget then they have to label it under 'general millitary expenses' or something like that. The Freedom of Information act has a clause which exempts things which if revealed would threaten national security. There are in fact nine exemptions from the FOIA. I for one completely understand that most of the

Oh they are making a fuss about it. And the people that are will be removed from power soon. Thats how the government here works. Wow, you're cynical in ways only a russian could be. In any case, the reason the budget is black is so that the rivals of the US won't get easy access to the new technology we're developing. I personally don't want, China fo

Schem if it was completely out of the militaries bounds it wouldn't be done by by the miltary now would it? Wow.... No offense TGE, but I think that might be the worst argument I've seen on this forum (unless I am completely misunderstanding what you said). Would you not agree that the military controlling the government is out of the bounds of the military's purpose/function? Yet military government have arisen in many third world cou

Scourge, we're already dependent on foreign oil, which could also be disrupted pretty easily. Admittedly, there are more ways around that problem -- its easy to spot giant solar collectors, not so easy to find every last oil smuggler -- but the same problem remains. I concur fully. In addition our oil/natural gas/coal power plants are contributing to global warming making a possible war between the US and China even more likely. My solution would be adva

That is neat if they can pull it off. I only see one potential problem (besides the cost). If a non-nuclear-major war is to happen then it will be US v. China. China recently demonstrated technology which can destroy satelites. Already our military is heavily dependent on satelite usage. If the power grid becomes dependent on satelites and we go to war with China, we're screwed. Chinese planes/non-ICBMs can't reach the US (and as long as we hold naval superiority neither will the air craft carri

EA to buy Ironclad Games!!! =o You deserve something horrible to happen to you Kosc. Actually, from a logical sense, loyalty would be based on how many jumps away the planet is. Consider this. Loyalty is increased by easy access to the capital world. Given that in the Sins universe the only access two worlds have with each other is there phase lanes. Also remember that the threat of force from the central government would be an important aspect of loyalty. Exercising that threat of force is more difficult the more jumps away from the homeworld a planet is (in t

Sins won't have a campaign in the traditional sense. Hmmmm...if its not in the traditional sense then I'm curious as to what sense in will have a campaign. Perhaps a non-linear campaign/risk type map a la Rise of Nations or a bunch of scenarios of big battles in the Vasari/TEC/Advent war somewhat more like Battlefield 1942? Either will work for me (or something completely different/new/cool). However, I suppose this is one of those things you're keeping
