Actually the Drath have some war profiteering and spy/manipulation tech. that the Altarians don't and the Alterians have better shield technology. But yes the Dark matter/Engergy tech is present for both, that is totally in line with the background as both races come from the same planet and both have some natural ability to manipulate Dark Energy/Matter.

I do understand partly where your coming from, but I have to say there is nothing wrong with steam if you do have access, it’s pretty good and doesn’t have too many glitches any more and most of all beats having some horrible root kit and a damaged DVD drive because of Copy Protection software like Starforce, that really makes me angry. But anyway I agree it would be bad if you couldn’t buy on DVD/CD at all, because I know not everyone has good internet access to download this sort of t
Some other points to be remembered, the habitability of planets does not just relate to if a species could survive themselves on that planet but also the costs of maintaining themselves and their structures. It is indeed true that any robot has a range of conditions under which it can operate and a range of conditions under which it can’t just like any organic creature does. Now you can argue that a robotic sentience could just redesign itself to survive in another environment.
Ok i have a question for the devs, and il understand if it doesnt get answered. Question: Would it be difficult to add in a slider for the ship maintenance at the beginning of the game where you select research speed galaxy size ect? I had enjoyed the last betas economy a great deal, and my friends that played it did as well. I understand the new maintenance costs make it more challenging but some of us love just having a mass of ships in a nice quiet corner of the galaxy map <IM
radiation can interfere with electronics. again just some kind of simple coating. most types of radation can be stopped by a thin layer of tin foil. Toxic atmosphere could easily be corrosive as well oil or something similar.
The amount of radiation we are talking about would not be stopped by a thin layer of tin foil. The radiation levels in s
THe Yor are robots created by the Iconians to server them on their planets there for their bodies would have been designed with similar Radiation/Gravity/Humidity tolerances as found on the Iconian home world. However they are more tolerant of worlds without atmosphere than organics since they don't need it.
The natural satalite requirement is not true, yes the moon does many of the thing you describe for the earth. But it's not the only way a planet can achieve a stable orbit and tides are not essential to support carbon based life. We would simpley have to manage a different ecology. Oxygen/Nitrogen atmosphere would be needed as would a certain level of humidty for life as we know it. A Magnetic Field is very useful for deflecting a lot of radiation, of course generating such a
I haven't seen TA, my suggestion was based only on the DA invasion scenes. If TA has movies that sounds good to me and my post may be superfluous.
Yes TA has movies of the various planetary improvements on a planet being destroyed in a sort of tactical display in TA. It doesn't show troops though it's a little larger scale than that. I like it, not bad for an expansion. You'll have to have TA to see it though as it's TA specific I believe.
I doubt we'll be able to create new supper abilities, I'd guess that is beyond the scope of any of the editors since a supper ability would need code to support it. Well... given the nature of the Racial Tech Trees, it wouldn't be too hard to imagine being able to give a new "Super Ability" in the form of a unique, non-tradeable/stealable tech that gives some bonus that could normally be given via techs. For instance, a race with No Super A
The non-creativitied tech flag is a very good tweak indeed. Creative can be just a little to powerful without that. Also some good bug fixes here and I imagine the -1% maintinance on ships will have a lot of impact on large empires with big fleets. and less on the early stages of the game or small universes with little fleets as I imagine was intended. A good suggestion I spotted the other day, why are there no technologies that reduce maintinance costs for structures by a %? T
Actually I love the new race tech trees, I think it does change the game a lot but for the better. It means Races don't only start the game with unique advantages/disadvantages that are then overridden by tech. effectivley but rather their tech gives them different specialties through out the game. It's a brilliant addition IMO. Also since this change really is the heart of TA if you don't like it I'd stick to DL. As for the idea of having the ability to toggle unique tech off

Ah I didn't know about the extra points I just remembered how it used to be cool ;-). In my book if they aren't enabled they arent in. And cool as far as the tech tree thing is concerned.
yeah..... hopefully . but usually they happen thurs or fri nights
I know usually Thursday late night for those of us here in Europe. But today is Thursday.
Is there any word on custom races, firstly will they still be supported in TA? I’d assumed they would. Secondly when are they likely to come into the Beta? Thirdly will you be able to select a tech tree for a custom race e.g. any existing race tree or a unique on you create in the editor? Will they get extra pick points to make up for the lack of intrinsic bonuses the stock races get? I’ve never understood why this isn’t the case.
Ok I see your point about the Map, it's not a priority to me but it would be nice yes. generally I agree with most of what you say but would like to see planets done a little differently. On the point of ground combat I'm only suggesting strategic control between turns not control of individual soliders tanks, etc. That would just play out like a movie but dynamicly generated. This would also mean that conquering a planet could not be done in a month as now which is just unrealistic it sho
On carrier ships; I think it would be a great idea to create a hanger bay that could house and produce replacements for a certain number of user designed tiny ships, just as if they where mobile ship yards. The number of fighters would depend upon the bay module and how large/advanced it was. The ship would automatically start producing replacements if the ships are lost. The number of production points used for this per turn would also depend how advanced the hanger module was. I reall
A Brilliant Idea, I would really like to see this added. Having tech to drive down maintinance would be great. It would probably be best to have a ship line and a planet line that just reduce your over all maintinance costs by a %.
Cool, so I take it your aiming to do one today but not sure you'll make it.
Honsby, this game is a Beta and balancing is likely to continue right up until final release as refining this is on of the tasks normally undertaken iteratively during a Beta. It's not ineptitude at all it's just that most balancing takes place in the Beta phase of a game. If it's still very unbalance at final release then your criticism might have some merit. Also by the nature of giving races unique tech. trees with strength and weaknesses some races are going to ha
They've said there will be different movies depending what improvements are on the planet that's being invaded but that at the moment only a few are in the current beta so they mostly all look the same.
So Let me be the first to ask, will there be a Beta update today? ;)
only get what is left, so you won't get more than one free tech with creativity per turn, and I also made it so that you have to have research production to use the creative ability.
Cool sound like a good change. So I was partly right as to what the issue was.
So when you set it to -1 it is actually treating it as a very high positive value due to loading a signed value into an unsigned integer. If this is true then in my book it's a bug. I have modded the Abilities so for example from your 10 points you can select an option the gives you more points, such as Logistics - 3 give you 2 extra points or -10 PQ gives you 4 points, then you can spend your 16 points on say ecomonics, trade routes or res
You can get a disc mailed though if you're not able to download. Did you not read that bit before the rant NeuralTech? I can understand that it might be annoying if your one of the tiny percentage of gamers who still don't have internet access. But you can still order it on disk, they just aren't publishing in the shops because it keeps costs down and allows them to self-publish without going to a big corporate entity like EA. This is a good thing overall
