I didn't know that using music from games was piracy.
What did you think it was? Someone composed and conducted that music, the games / film company paid money, they charge money (either for the game or the soundtrack)... Why should this be different than downloading a CD?

Yes. Just be sure to check 'Show pre-release version' in SDC. ;)
No espionage needed to get a rough idea about military strength. - The military timeline displays added attack / defense values for all known races. - Once discovered, you can always see enemy planets, as well as ships in orbit. - I could be wrong, but I think even the number of ships is openly available somewhere in the civ. manager or foreign relations. However, especially the timeline can be misleading. Ships in orbit around planets with a certain
I don't play on custom maps or scenarios either, mainly because they won't be submitted to Metaverse. However, TA introduces tournaments, MV ready scenarios, and the one that is playable so far is pretty good. A decent description, with opponents, settings, etc.
The version number is also shown in the lower left corner ingame, on the main menu screen.
The Peacekeepers seem a bit ... overenthusiastic ... in their methods. I haven't had that event yet, but do a search on the forum, there are several threads about this event.
What is your current version of DA? SDC should update it to 1.8e, you can then manually download the unofficial 1.8g from the forums. Look for a thread by CariElf, 'fleet movement bug'.
Sorry, thought this was about ways to distribute a large mod, not getting copyrighted material.
Once again I look at Supreme Commander for a better way. (Not that it's THAT good, it's just the small things. Zooming in on the cursor location for example.) When upgrading a building, they add small dots in the zoomed out view to the icon, telling which tech-level the building is on. A level 1 would have 1 dot, 2 would have 2 dots, etc. Perhaps something similar could be done to starbases (and fleets, for that matter -> display size as dots above the icon like in NATO symbolism) in or
How do other people here win their Cultural Victories?
I started off as Thalans with Influence and Econ boni. Opponents were Korx, Torians, Arcean and Terrans. Strategy was more or less all-factory, but I got lucky and colonised two planets far away from my corner starting position -> Easy influence gain. Treaties and incoming trade as well as a good military strength kept everyone on good terms, allowing me to build
1) The beta so far works like DA, and no major changes to the combat system have been announced. Personally I haven't played DL much so I can't say if DA or DL has the better system, but on that limited experience I wouldn't call the current system worse.
Well, the difficutly is indirectly specified. You have to play at the displayed difficulty of your main character or higher. But bonus points for playing at a higher level could be a nice incentive. Creating a game probably would make it impossible to submit that game to the MV, as the savegame contains information about the account with which it was created. What I would like to see is perhaps a round with a set starting race or opponents. Currently you can cherry-pick no
First off, congrats on your victory!
The Drath had 4/5 alliances and close relations with the fifth team for a good portion of the game, never going for a diplomatic victory
You might find it helpful that the AI can't win by diplomatic victory.
Nice one.
It'll get easier once TA is released with its dedicated tech-tree editor.
You can only have one outgoing treaty (research or economy), so you should check if you already established an economic treaty with another race.
In the window for your domestic policies (where you set tax rate and spending) there is a tab that displays trade routes. From which planet, to which planet, profit generated etc.
Hm. No problem here, using Firefox 2.0.0.11 Did you check if Firefox removes the file-extension for some reason? Try adding .zip to the end and see if that helps.
Ok, my submission. Not as impressive as some others, but still... Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz Years: 4 Race: [Thalan] Type: Cultural Conquest Points: 3600 Difficulty: Normal Size: Tiny Version: v1.80f Dark Avatar test 2 (Dark Avatar) Time: 12/9/2007 6:34:16 AM
Do you play with tech trading on or off? The AI rarely researches Alliances on its own (please, please, give that tech a higher AI priority Stardock!), but when traded, they form alliances a lot.
Sun Crusher sound pretty cool. However, you never can go wrong with the classics: BFG.
Yes, they can form alliances, but they can't achieve a diplomatic victory.
Zooming in on the mousepointer is also what Supreme Commander does. Extremely helpful for quickly changing your focus. I'm all for incorporating this in GalCiv2.
An editor like that would probably be more interesting in a game like Stardocks upcoming fantasy TBS. Especially if races could be shared among users, like they plan for Spore.
Two words: Customer Service. SEV is more moddable, but GC2 is superior in nearly all other aspects. What really ticks me off about SEV however is the absolute resistance to acknowledge bugs. I actually bought SEV a while back and am unable to play it because of graphical glitches. After sending in several reports (no answer) and no useful help on the forums ('tough luck') and several patches that address only balance issues (only nobody plays vanilla anyway), I decided to not bother wit
