In resonse to Kzinti's post, I gained these impressions partly from studying the games and strategies expounded by Mumblefratz, Wyndstar and Purge, where I don't recall seeing anything about building freighters and establishing trade routes. In fact I know I've seen discussion about how trade routes are lost and freighters destroyed so easily. Having the Trade tech and building an economic capital is something else and I should have mentioned that in my post. Anyway, thanks for your input

Thanks SB & Mumble...I was going to volunteer to be scorekeeper when the election was final. ;) As for other people contributing to the calculation, this is also something that I intended to say. No-one is infallible, and it is always a good idea to have another set of eyes to look at data. I've been doing my own calculations for the last three rounds, and sending them to SB, even though he didnt ask for them. Whoever is going to be scorekeeper, I suggest that they should encourage anyone wh
I believe that most of the players who play at high difficulty levels for high scores and speed games, and those who play strictly military conquest games, don't bother with trade routes. learning curve and I dropped Trade several games ago
I disagree with both these assumptions. I like to have 1 trade route with every other civ, for diplomatic reasons. I want to go to war when and where I decide to, not when my enemies feel like it. A boost to relations is a
I feel like I'm falling behind, but rest assured, my gigantic map suicidal tests are coming along. I abandoned my DA quest and fell back to DL to test some theories without the differences between DL and DA getting caught up in the mix.The tests have garnered me some valuable information and the final game will start tonight after one more reset of my character. Of course, that means I'll be at 0 points for a while. That'll change before long. This will be my first full game gigantic map
In our case that work is taking the time and effort to hash out a bunch of details that can be complex and confusing and try to find a solution that satisfies a wide range of people, all with different interests and concerns, and that ends up actually making a positive real change for the better. The AltMeta was certainly an actual positive real change. So was the MVL itself.Kzinti asked what is metaverse activism. Basically if you hang around these forums long enough, time and again, ove

Advanced search being gone is a hassle because it makes it much harder to find someone you want to PM if they havent created an original post.
My favorite part of MoM was the ability to customize your wizard and race combo's to fit your playing style. That's why I keep playing GalCivII over and over, I can chose or create a race to maximize how I enjoy playing the game. What MoM and MoO both had that I miss, was the randomness of the spells/technologies available to research. If your researchers didn't stumble upon the path you wanted, you were forced to trade with the AI, or live with the consequences. That randomness played into

I'm very eagerly awaiting this game, and hope it will be as addictive as MoM and GC2. :) I am dubious about the idea of the magic-based fantasy TBS game being a pre-quel to GC though. It's a very tricky propostion to reconcile these two wildy different realites. Some fantasy/sci-fi writers have succeeded, but most have fallen short in my opinion. Definitely TBS is the way to go...I second GW Swicord's faugh about RTS! ;) <a href="http://www.mypicshare.com/vqrpalptpic.html" t
This brings up the point that awhile back we had the Metaverse Council which I think did some good work and made a significant contribution to the current state of the AltMeta. Today the focus of metaverse activism is really the MVL. Essentially the MVC has morphed into the MVL. there is a certain responsibility for the care and feeding of the metaverse that we all share as metaverse players. I would like to see the Metaverse League do some of the things that we used t

The Jagged Knife can be a huge hassle, but it can also surprisingly be a great opportunity. If they take a large number of planets from your neighbors as well, and you gear up to produces lots of transports, you can easily get back what you lost and also take additional planets. Without decaring war on any of the major civilizations, you can start grabbing planets that used to belong to them. <img src="http://www.myp

I liked TNG and DS9 the best out of the Trek series. DS9 was cool because it was darker and less optimistic than any of the others. I didnt watch any Enterprise because at the time it came out I didnt have cable, and where I live in Vermont you get about 3 good channels just using antenae. I havent caught any of the reruns yet, but the Sci-Fi channel does show them. My favorite sci-fi series are non-Trek though: Bablyon 5 and the current Battlestar Galactica. Like with DS9, they are

It happened even in the old system. Seems to be when someone quotes a quote from a previous post, but doesn't get the entire thing. So the end up with a [ quote ] box with an opening html div tag inside it, which then screws up the layout heirarchy completely. A simple edit and switch to html mode and back will add closing div tags, though I generally clean it up and remove the divs entirely when I see it happen. Im testing too, because I screwed up my em
