Increasing the HP of the terror star will increase all starbase HP. It still won't do anything to its practical durability unless you add a weapons module like battle stations to the terror star.
Why can't you threaten a weak race with the prospect of war, and why can't you be directly threatened with war? The Drengin and Korath bully me for cash quite often, but when I refuse (which I do every time) they seldom actually declare war on me. I'm not particularly complaining about this, as war is very very bad, but I do feel not being given the direct choice between paying up or them instantly killing you as a slight deficiency in the game. Obviously, if every time you refused to give cash
the thalan get very good star bases with just one tech: you can get immense defence (which is worthless without weapons, +50% culture on culture starbases,+trade, mining ect. i forgot the name of the tech but it is very powerfull.
I did research that tech, but there didn't seem to be any benefit for my starbases afterwards. Maybe I should try again and pay more attention.
I made another topic in Game Talk on this very subject earlier today. Battle Stations are on the tech tree, tucked away in the hulls research line (odd place, I think). Researching them doesn't give the module, and thalans also don't seem to have any of the more advanced mining, economy, influence or military modules, even when their starbase tech is researched. I don't rely that much on starbases, but it's still a major weakness. The thalans have some really interesting strategies as w
If you want to experience this bug, go play a DVD, run defrag, and copy a big file on your harddisk around. While all this is going on, start up Twilight. Now start a game, play for a few rounds and as you are coming up on a very event-intensive turn (i.e. research project complete), hit Ctrl+N to quickly start a new game.Since your computer is so taxed with all that other stuff, you might experience the odd thing where you can actually get all the way through starting your new game. Are Thalans not supposed to be able to put battle stations on their starbases in Twilight? I noticed the techs for these modules being on the hulls tree, but none of my starbases could apparently have battle stations installed. I've played a game as Yor since then, might try another as Thalan soon. Using starbases is a lot harder when they don't have any defenses. :P Also finding the lack of space mining/economy modules annoying, but I think that was a development decision.
Yes indeed, I am wrong. Thanks a lot, that's exactly it!
The program linked to in that post seems not to work in Vista. Thanks for trying though.
I get annoyed when my '...\Documents' folder gets cluttered up with games directories when I have a perfectly good '...\Games' folder available. My rage, alas, is rendered impotent by my inability to change where the offending directories are saved without everything not working as it should and the folders just being remade. Galactic Civilizations II, for all of its innumerable merits, is one of these guilty programs. Can anyone help me change 'C:\Users\Dionok\Documents\My Games' into 'C
DISREGARD MY EARLIER POST: It isn't letting me edit/delete it. I'll keep it quick, all this is in my opinion and should for that reason not be taken too seriously: SERIOUS SUGGESTIONS: - Option to turn extreme environments for planets on or off, in the same menu as Tech Trading and Mega Events. - United Planets votes less hateful to evil civs. - Evil Civs less powerful, Good more powerful, Neutral of equal power to both. - I know I'm probably in the minority wi
I'll keep it quick, all this is in my opinion: SERIOUS SUGGESTIONS: - Option to turn extreme environments for planets on or off, in the same menu as Tech Trading and Mega Events. - United Planets votes less hateful to evil civs. - Evil Civs less powerful, Good more powerful, Neutral of equal power to both. - I know I'm probably in the minority with this one, but option to turn ethics off completely... - ..or relegate it to an automatic process based on actual gamepl
Longtime lurker, apologies if anything has already been mentioned, I've not read every post. This is mostly in reply to the b***s*** encountered in the first. I apologise also for British spelling. Water is not added to that already in the water cycle from hydrogen fuel cells. There's only so much hydrogen on Earth and most of it is in the form of water. This is where most of the hydrogen for fuel cells is coming from, so no more water is actually added to the water cycle. Your poi
In addition to the above, if you choose to make a previous design obsolete and you still have ships of that type a little box opens telling you how many of them you have and asking if you'd like to upgrade them.
Thanks a lot, it seems to work fine now.
I've made a data mod so I can basically make some of the numbers bigger, make morale buildings and asteroid mining more useful etc. I've combined it with Kryo's hull mod, but I'm not sure if that's affecting it at all. I need help with the following: 1. Planetary Improvements come up twice each on the list when I'm adding them to a planet. 2. All my ship designs have disappeared, including the basic ones like colony ship and constructor, though I still have all of my templates.
I have strangely behaving borders in one of my games too...
Another idea I just had was maintaining a food supply in the colony rush. Since the colonies are just recently established they would have to get food from Earth and drain Earth's supply to survive. If you expand to quickly, Earth's(or your homeworld) will run dry and your civilization will starve to death!
The core ships are weak but cheap. One problem is they always have the same defense type as weapon type so aren't usually suited to the actual galactic military climate. Don't use the core ships. Choosing a core template and putting your best stuff on it will make a much stronger ship without having to think of a design. If you have a good amount of miniaturisation you'll be able to fit more on as well. You're also able to tailor it to your advantage against an opponents weapons and def
Sorry I've tried the game again and they're showing up now... It won't let me edit the previous post so I made this one. Ignore all this... sorry for wasting your time.

After installing 1.6 I played a game, as you do, only to discover when trying to harvest a resource that Starbases are no longer showing up for any race. They still get built and they still have an effect on gameplay, but they're... invisible. Either this is Drengin Trickery or... suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Who needs fusion on Earth? We have our own fusion reacotor located a nice and conveinant 90 million miles away!! Just put out an a@@# load of giant solar panels in space and you have all the power you ever need for the next 5 billion years or whenever the sun finally blows up and consumes the Earth. Just need a means to get the batteries down to earth in an economic way. Create an electric powered rocket somehow?? <br/
It strikes me as odd how many religions seem to tell you that you have to die after a life of behaving yourself before you can enjoy yourself. "Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful" as said Seneca. *un-lurks* Hello guys.
