Conqueror penalty wouldn't make much sense as according to the current model the planet's population is completely wiped out and the new inhabitants are your own victorious troops.
actually, anything keeping them simple but making them more exciting would be great. it's planetary invasion of God's sake, it's worth underlining
The land combat in Sid Meier's Pirates would be a good model.
In the case of Stardock, thankfully, that is not the end of the story. They continue to fix bugs as they are discovered, and make game-play tuneups as found appropriate.
Think of Stardock as the Anti-Ubisoft.
Same thing here, not working in Opera today.
So download TweakUI and disable autoplay. Or follow a few simple steps and disable it via the registry: [link="http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=1005112800135"]WWW Link[/link]
If you do a full installation you shouldn't need the disk at all. Heh . . . I just installed the game to confirm, took like 2 minutes. At least in v2.42, without the disk you'll get a popup warning that you may not be able to access certain multimedia features, but you'll be able to continue loading the game.
I've been playing DL all this time -- I was about to get DA but then heard about TA and decided to wait and upgrade to a Platinum version or whatever the all-inclusive package with both expansions will be called. However, I've been reading the beta reports and I can't stand it anymore so DA + TA preorder here I come. And now that I've decided to get it, I have to wait at least a week because Canadian Paypal transfers take freaking forever. And the final ironic touch . . . I
there's one ship that's always taking the beating until it is destroyed. The only way not to have it attacked is to take it out of the fleet.
I use this to develop high ranking units. If the ships are identical except for hitpoints, the AI targets the lower HP ships first. So I bring along some spare ships for each fleet, and swap out the damaged lowest-HP ship for a fresh one after each encounter (assuming it survives). Meanwhile the higher level ship
I was thinking maybe a small bump to one ability, perhaps only if a race you're not a war with surrenders to you. Maybe a way to pump up the Good alignment.
Currently, when a race surrenders they effectively disappear. In reality though they would be working with their new masters. I thought it would be cool if there was a chance of getting an abilities bonus to reflect this when a race surrenders to you -- kind of like how the Soviet Union and the US got a "rocket science bonus" after WW2 due to the efforts of former German scientists.
Civ 4 is garbage. It's missing a very core feature - you cannot build multiple offensive and defensive military units in any way. You can upgrade pre-built units, but never build your own custom units.
This is a feature that the Civ team has experience with, and purposely left out. First, the units are supposed to be historical so completely custom units makes no sense whatsoever. Second, many people (not including myself) didn't like the necessity of
If I get the starship bonus event during the initial colony rush I'll build my manufacturing capital on that world and build most of my warships there. In my last game I got 2 of the events and had 2 shipyards cranking out ships with ~50% bonuses. Add in a couple military resources and it didn't take long for my little fleet to smash everything in its path.
I imagine the quick building is more about quickly aquiring and retrofitting an existing property. Private factories get augumented into large public ones, a mercenary ship is bought and brought up to spec....
I imagine it has a lot more to do with game mechanics and game balance, and nothing at all to do with retrofitting or mercenary ships etc etc.
It's also a good strategy to identify the worlds with your enemy's high value assets (capitals, trade goods, etc) and target them first. Get his economic, manufacturing, and research capitals as well as his mining starbases in the first few turns of the war and he's in a world of hurt.
If you're going to commit to neutrality, you're probably playing a peaceful game anyway in order to take advantage of the extra trade routes. Heck no. I play Neutral to get a huge tech advantage and smash entire fleets with a few little ships as I grind the galaxy under my iron heel.
I just found this thread while searching, trying to find out what the heck was going on in my game. I'd just finished a major war, was bored of fighting and wanted to use influence to push my borders out. I flipped a few planets, then researched the tech to build the Mind Control Center. That was the end of planet flipping. I had influence of 40+ on some planets and they just sat there in revolt for the whole game. Very frustrating.
Free Burma? That's great! I was sure I'd have to pay for it.
Unfortunately planet flipping isn't represented by those icons AFAIK.
An event log like Civ4's would do the trick, along with not allowing new windows to steal focus until the player exits the current window.
I hate the way windows pop up and take priority over whatever I'm doing at the time. Today I was adjusting my tax rate and accidentally clicked one time too many, putting the tax at 81% and dropping my approval down to 10%. And about one millisecond after that, the election screen pops up, there's no escape, and I lose control of the Senate. Pissed me right off.
I'm sure most modern games spend more man hours on content creation than actual engine programming. Texture artists, level designers, 3d modellers, animators, concept artists, etc.
Bumping this . . . I also have a Q6600 and with the upcoming extra-huge maps in the new expansion multicore support would be very handy.
I'm 37 and I love the silliness. It just seems to suit the overall style of the game perfectly. There are other games that are the opposite, where any kind of levity would feel inappropriate. I remember an old flight sim called Eurofighter 2000, in which the player is based in Norway and the Soviets come pouring down from the north. When players reminisce about this game they one thing everyone mentions is the feeling of grim desperation as you barely hold on to a tiny corner of your territo
I miss the days when you bought a new PC and all you had to do was take the hard drive from your old machine any pop it in your new machine and it would boot and operate exactly as the old machine except perhaps a little faster. I just upgraded from an Athlon XP on an Nvidia chipset board to an Intel Core2 Quad on an Intel chipset motherboard, and didn't have any problems with Windows -- just uninstall all motherboard and chipse
I hit ctrl-n a few times in my last game -- when I looked at the debug.err I saw that 3 of the 7 opponents had their intelligence reset from 80 to 42.
