Thermaltake 1000W power supply -- excellent unit, and also a huge waste of money. The PSU manufacturers have done a great marketing job but tests indicate you don't need nearly as much power as they'd have you think -- one review showed a Core2 Duo E6600 overclocked to 3.7 ghz, 8800GTX (also overclocked), 2x hard drives and a bunch of fans drawing only 380 watts from the wall at full load. The system you listed will run just fine on 450 watts at stock speed. You might need 600 if you o

No idea about which company as I've never bought a mass produced pc. One thing to consider is upgrade frequency -- most games right now don't take advantage of multicore so if you plan on upgrading next year a quad is probably unnecessary. OTOH if you're going to be keeping this system for several years you should go with a quad as most new games will support quadcore by this time next year. More cores may also allow you to run physX in emulation. If you go Intel make sure the motheboard sup

The best solution to the problem is a biological domestic co-inhabitant, most often referred to as a wife. That sounds like a classic case of the cure being worse than the disease! If a watch or alarm clock doesn't help, try some meds for your OCD condition. Better living through chemistry . . . and it won't nag you to take out the garbage or make you sleep on the couch if you play too much <img src="http://images.

Anyone have experience with this combo? I do 3d modelling so I want to upgrade to a 64bit OS to take advantage of my new hardware, but Vista isn't mature enough for me yet.

What's the most you've ever had? I had 3 or 4 military resource mining starbases and the evil starship bonus on my Hyperion shipyard planet, and a huge hull with a bunch of Doom Rays had an attack of over 400. The "real" value as shown in the shipyard was 120 or so. And that was without trying to maximize the attack; it had quite a bit of defense and engine as well.

Had an early war with the Drengin, followed by a long grinding conflict with the Korx througout a Gigantic galaxy. I had an old Drengin-era medium hulled ship that was very obsolete with the wrong kind of defenses that would've cost almost 7000bc to upgrade to my newest medium design, so I decided to throw it against a big Korx fleet to retire it in a blaze of glory. Well, it smashed the Korx without breaking a sweat. Then I noticed it was Level 73 with 99 HP! I renamed it HMS Invinc

I also play on tough and the AI makes extensive use of starbases. The Carinoids had 4 influence starbases parked next to Drengi, for example. The AI does seem to prioritize weapons over production when upgrading econ bases.

They can surround another person's city, but that results in that city immediately flipping sides. The city cannot actually sit inside another's territory like the planets can in GCII. Actually in Civ4 if there are enough military units in a city it will never flip even if totally inside your borders.

I use a Commerce Raider built on a cargo hull with one weapon and as much engine and life support as will fit. In the early game it's awesome for zipping around behind enemy lines taking out constructors, freighters, transports and unfortified starbases. It can usually outrun anything it can't fight. Once I destroy a starbase I have a few fast constructors and escorts waiting and I've soon got a fortified base deep in enemy territory, while at the same time preventing the enemy from using wha
