No disdain at all for people who reload here. "Save-scumming" is the commonly used phrase to describe the behaviour and it gets discussed a lot (with that phrase) on various game forums. Not sure what you mean about the stability argument, I thought I was clear enough in that it would be a point against having such a system. It is ok for people to hate the idea, some like, some dislike, the thread is about teasing out a possible improvement for the game which is probably not going to

Kantok, the beauty of the system is if you reload all you like, you'd benefit from doing that, if you don't you benefit in a different way. The idea would be to pitch any bonus at a level where a reloader (or someone who only has short play sessions) is very definitely not punished for doing so, heck the stability question is a good one. Rather, subtle positive reinforcement to encourage players get over 'save-scumming' everything in the game. Heck, I know I do it and have don

This idea allows you to save as much you like, autosaves etc. The bonus is only removed if you reload, so killing the game in task manager you'll still need to relaunch the game and load up your last save, zeroing any bonus. It isn't about forcing oneself not to reload, but rewarding oneself for not reloading ;)

An indy rpg called Frayed Knights had a great system of rewarding players who did not abuse save / reload by having a meter which gradually filled up the longer you played without reloading the game. Like a mana bar, portions of that could be spent on buffs which improved your characters abilities for a time, or healed them up etc. This encouraged people to take on difficult challenges without that save/reload crutch which pretty much every rpg'er / strategy gamer over-relies on. <p

I'll echo EvilMaxWar and say I was disappointed with WOM, but am enjoying FE much much more. I feel it really says something about Stardock that they are trying to make things right and inviting a lot of testers to help provide input. I've plowed a good few hours into FE now and it feels like it has that certain something, 'soul' if you will, that makes for a great game which sadly WOM lacked. Likes : Loot - good variety, meaningful and powerful stuff to get.</

Worrying trend I've noticed recently it that game prices are starting to creep up into the ridiculous. Starcraft 2 was the one which seems to have got this ball rolling, being one of the priciest games I've bought in a long time, but I notice Fallout New Vegas weighing in on the heavy side, and now Arcania at a ludicrous £45. It seems the average price for games has jumped from £25 to £35 overnight (post SC2), yet money is tighter than ever for people (including myself) with

I'm afraid I am in the same boat with Star Assault. It does show XP/Vista, however I cannot get it to work, even using Run as Administrator and various compatibility settings. It gives a pointer error several times, which can be skipped past if using the Run as Admin, but then crashes when I try and create a profile so I'm unable to play the game.

You know, a system a having our cake and eating it would be similar to the Total War series... turn-based strategy, real time battles. I dabbled in trying to make a MoM : Total War mod but it was beyond my abilities and I didn't really have the time to devote to it to do it justice.

I'd just like to point out to fellow beta testers that they need to uncheck 'show pre-release versions' on the SDC application to show the retail version of Sins to download. Was waiting and waiting for the 0.9 beta version to update itself to the retail version so I could grab it... was probably sitting there ready for me to download for hours

From what you are saying Schem, haven't you proved the initial assertion that triple Dunovs (or more) require two to three times their fp to take down? Is that balanced? Are you saying that a combination of cap ships which require two or three times more fp to stop is balanced because it costs a lot? I think you forget that the extra metal and crystal in making LRMs isn't free so on that basis alone your point is flawed. Also the time factor is trying to make a fleet of that size is an

umm, a few of the proposed counter strategies suppose that the dunov player is going to sit there and take his licks. Or that in a real game, the dunovs are all you'd be facing. The Sova's I found won handily when I let the Dunov autocast. They were beaten easily when I microed the Dunov, despite Paradoxnt moving the carriers around like crazy. Marza faired the worst. Even though a proportion of the damage they dealt was shield piercing (lingering damage/radiation bomb) they co

Having been on the receiving end of Paradoxnt's triple Dunov strategy I tried to test a variety of methods to counter it. A group of 3 of these punches way above their fleet point useage, taking down roughly twice to three times their fp worth in capitals or frigates. The only downside when testing them more thoroughly with Para, was that they required a large amount of concentration in micromanaging the abilities and target switching. We tested a variety of setups, including 3

At the risk of adding fuel to the flames... I do believe I remember something about Yarlen saying Eets was on a 'list' several days back. I took this to mean a list of rather annoying people on IRC (a joke), rather than a supersecrit list of ubertesterguineapig victims. Carry on by all means, it is entertaining
