Just checked virtual memory setting and it's got the checkbox selected for automatically manage page file size for a all drives. I upgraded to Crusade a day after my Dec 6 post. Played it for a few days and then around turn # 250, it started noticeably bogging down on save/auto-save, taking 15-20 minutes and also bringing my PC to its knees overall. Now I'm once again encountering the problem where, after a PC reboot, GC3 crashes when trying to load either the most recent a

I'm having a similar but more pervasive problem in GC3 (no Crusade expansion). I just started playing a few days ago and saving/loading is causing the game to become unplayable for me. After playing for several hours into my 2nd game (1st one was aborted as a learning experience) the save or load process bogs down to 10-15 minutes or longer. Watching in Task Manager I see CPU shoot up near 40% with 15-20 GB (!!!) memory usage. I've killed the process in TM a couple of times when it got to >
(Edit: removed post, as I'm playing GC3 but without Crusade expansion.)
*bump* anyone?
Go to the preferences in the Impulse menu (blue button at top left). The folders section will let you assign default locations for apps, games, temp files, and set it to prompt for a location on every install if you prefer.
Thanks... totally missed that little button! Got it set now.
I've got an SSD as an OS drive, and trying to keep other apps off of it. Is there a way, from Impulse, to install GC on another drive than C:? I poked around but couldn't find an option like that.
I recently rebuilt my PC and installed Win 7 Pro (64 bit), and returned to playing GC2 DL. I couldn't find disk 1 of the original disks, so downloaded from Impulse. After the initial install, I played for a couple of weeks but then started getting an error "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive D:.", and after quitting the game it then wouldn't let me get past that message at all. Uninstalled/reinstalled, worked for a few days and then started
i was playing the demo the other day for dark avatar and honestly, i was kinda impressed since for the most part i play xbox and an occaisional pc strategy game. And this game is starting to rise on my list of games to get, but 60 dollars is alot to pay for the game and its expansions. And though some strategy games are pretty good (Sins of a solar empire is one that kinda stuck out), they tend to get repetitive or they rely on combat too much (which is perfectly
Good news. I uninstalled again, reinstalled from the CD and this time tried updating via Impulse instead of SDC. I'm up and running. The update that came down was 1.53 (for Dread Lords), and in addition to working, I see some graphics updates which is nice. Very relieved to be able to dominate the galaxy once again! Ah, thanks for the clarification on that date. So I made a shortcut to GC2Launch.exe with the debug option on the command, as you suggested. (Target = "D:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\GC2Launch.exe" debug; I do have GC2 installed on a D: partition as I've always had. Out of curiousity I searched the Registry for references to "C:\Program Files\Stardock" and didn't find anything.) At any rate, running that I still get nothing extra in the debug.err file (though th
this date is (as it's written) : the time of the last update NOT the date when you last runned it
I'm quite aware of that, and in either case it's not accurate - as I mentioned I've uninstalled/reinstalled/updated a few times since then. There's nothing else in the file, just the one line. I'm mainly surprised that nothing has been written to the file since that date, as I mentioned there have been plenty of crashes.
Just to preface--there's no 2.0 update for Dread Lords, which it sounds like you have--the minor update that dropped alongside 2.0 for TA/DA is just Vista compatibility stuff for the most part. So if you're not on Vista, you don't need it.
Thanks. I do have just Dread Lords (been meaning to look into getting a combo TA/DA pack), and I didn't really look closely at update details, just ran Impulse and let it do its thing. [
Another thing about espionage, and something that I've changed my strategy on. It looks to me like getting to a certain level requires a set amount of money. So earlier in the game when my economy is typically struggling, I need every bc and don't spend anything on espionage. Later when I've got taxes up, trade etc and income is flowing well, I go ahead and start spending. At that point the expense per turn is higher, but you gain levels faster. I originally tried to spend at the beginning be
Also, tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling, and no change. Seems like the 2.0 update did something that has been left behind and is messing things up. ??? [e digicons]#:([/e]
Been playing and enjoying GC2 on and off for over a year. Recently had to do a reinstall of Win XP, and then GC2, and updated to 1.5 something via the old SD Central. Fortunately I keep separate OS and app/data partitions so most of my saved data, ships, games etc. were not lost. However, today I got an email about the update to GC2 2.0. Ran Impulse to get the update. Afterwards, starting GC2 produced a small dialog box stating that I needed to run setup.exe from the CD
