Elite, you grasp the concept of advertising, yes? Companies pay billions for it every year. When Napster was getting hammered, guys like Lars Ulrich were really going after it. There were artists that didn't like their copyrights being infringed upon. There were more artists that did. To most of them, the under advertised and lesser known, Napster was a gold mine. They were getting massive sales boosts from it. The statistics were all there. The vast majority of the users were sa

Jafo, there isn't even mention of a license anywhere on the Sins case. There is no mention of a license anywhere on any game case I have at my disposal. Perhaps you should educate yourself on your own industry practices before deciding I'm just some teenager? I have stacks of them sitting around. Some of the 2k games actually have the relevant copyright information written on the backs of the cases, bloody nice of them to specify that the standard copyright protections apply, but they don't
Pretty much sounds like you are claiming purchasing - it is however irrelevant. They licence the right for you to use the software, not resell it. You cant sell something you dont own, it does not become your property.Another urban myth.Want software - pay the copyright holder. Regards Zy
This is the problem, you're wrong. I buy a game. I do not buy a license to use software. There is no such statement at any store, online or offline, that I have ever se
Idiots always fail to realize that advertising sells to other idiots, even when it's crap being sold. Everything from Napster to cassette tapes have been hailed as the doom of the music industry because the rampant piracy they were going to cause would destroy them. Everything from Napster to cassette tapes has made the studios more money than they could imagine even after they were making it. When they shut down that EVIL Napster, the bane of copyright law, sales dropped.<br/
Before you go doing something crazy, like removing SecuRom. Make sure you don't need it. :) If you've already had it and didn't know, removing it will disable all your other games that use it.
Always mix squadrons in hangars in the meantime. :) I usually did 2/1 fighter bomber setups.
You can. Weird Al Yankovic makes a living modifying other peoples songs, he's hardly the only parody specialist. The Grimm's are dead, they've been that way for a fair bit of time. Disney can't steal their ideas anymore than a car company steals the idea of the wheel from whoever invented it. Even if they take works from living people and modify them, a story loosely based off another and written from scratch is an impossible standard for intellectual property theft.
Best fps of it's time, Counter-strike. Most innovated fps of it's time, Natural Selection. Half-life mods that far surpassed the original game, made for free. Best fantasy turn based tactical game on the market right now is Battle for Wesnoth, a free game. I'm all for capitalism, but I'll take BfW over Heroes 5 any day, and the mods were the only reason I purchased Half-life. Money can get you a good game, but it's hardly the deciding factor. Pong tends to be a better game
X from the Counter-strike boards that photochopped a sears model to put "herself" in various settings, including sitting at the computer. Had losers left and right proving why they were fakes...
That makes me think corrupted cab file, but with EA who knows. They might have overwritten your installer with another regions version.
And now I can't play a game I paid for because someone thinks its ok to check up on me like I'm some sort of criminal.I get ID'ed at bars all the time. Does that mean I can't drink the beer I paid for? Only if I'm underage or don't have an ID.
Do you get ID'd when you open your six pack at home that you were already ID'd to puchase in the first place? Are you retarded or something?
I think I read that they have region stuff built into the frigging demo. The joys of going legit eh?
Titan Quest... I heard it was a Diablo clone. :) Since the game turned a profit, the idea that they went under because of piracy is absurd. They used a very stupid DRM system, caused themselves a shit load of grief they could have avoided by making the game easier to crack. Anything that gives you more tech support is a big fucking no no, especially when the people you're wasting time with didn't even buy the game. Fade is a brilliantly stupid system. An unimaginati
UncleDrood... Did you even look at the study? 21% They commission a study, only tell us the findings, 21% across the board in the US, 37% worldwide. Then they come up with other numbers that have no relation to it.
"People need to get the "Robin Hood" fantasy OUT OF THIER HEADS. Stealing from the rich, "they don't need it" "they won't miss it". IT'S STILL WRONG The CEO of stardock is one example. Why is he the CEO of stardock? Well probably because he worked to get where he is. We have words to describe the lifestyles of the rich. It is called LAVISH and LUXURY. Look them up you will learn they buy these things because they can afford to purchase them. Some even have established a buisness
Have you ever been shafted by an asshole selling you faulty software that didn't work on your computer that more than met the requirements, was never fixed, and couldn't be returned? Some developers have no business coding software, most publishers have no business publishing it. I've been bitten so many times I don't ever buy a brand new game now. The sole exception is Stardock, I'll even pre-order from them. The reviewers lie more often than not, you can't even trust them to just l
Does boxed sex count? When describing how easy it was to manage your entire empire from the tree, that was the response I got from a tbs player that hates the late game slowdown.
You will always lose the arguments with pirates until you stop lying to yourselves for your own convenience.
P2P didn't create piracy, the internet existed before Napster. CD's were hardly the first medium to be easily copied either, Doom and Warcraft came on FLOPPIES. You didn't need to buy a "special" floppy reader to copy them either, all of them copied, even the disks the games came on could be written over in any generic floppy player. The CD is the odd one out that was copy proof at the start. When those pre-civilization games were released in the early to mid 90's, all the shit was a
"Two mistakes: -Saying EA is stealing. Are they really? If they are, you can go to court over it if you want. -The whole "two wrongs make a right" philosophy. Sorry, but just because wrong to you does not give you the right to commit another wrong against them." That be one "mistake" and one question. To go to court, I would have to let them steal from me in the first place, then I would have to expend vast quantities of a resource I don't have to get repaid for their
I believe in justice, and at this point justice is Mass Effect being stolen instead of bought. EA reserves the right to steal from it's customers, so why shouldn't I reserve the right to steal from EA? They have it in writing after all. The pirates only steal copies, the industry is stealing the actual products from it's users. DRM authorization servers being shut down, rootkits installed with CD's to prevent you from playing them on your computer, encrypted movies that only function on "aut
Ea has a new CEO, and is heading under a new direction. I wouldn't judge so early.
The new direction being SR7 with a 3 activation limit, termination of your use at their whim stipulated in their EULA's, and long distance phone calls to beg them for permission to use your purchase after three driver updates invalidate your product?
I have a question. What do the aliens look like?
Is stealing from a thief wrong? The legality of it I don't question, you have to be an idiot to claim that pirating someones software isn't illegal at this point. I do question the morality though. This is a termination clause, perhaps someone from Stardock recognizes it? "TERM This license is effective from your date of purchase and shall remain in force until terminated. You may terminate the license and this agreement at any time by destroying the SOFTW
The only problem with 64 bit OS's are the assholes that aren't supporting them with working drivers. Your system has too much memory for 32 bit, it would benefit substantially from the performance increases. Just be wary of badly done drivers.
