I usually reboot before starting another game of Sins because it seems to not close all the resources out properly after you exit the game. At least, if I don't it seems to be sluggish and lag more, but maybe it's all in my head!

Oh thought of some more already :-) 7. Siege frigate spam is still to easy a tactic, they constantly (AI players at least) would jump a huge fleet of them right past you as you attack their planet and in literally 3 volleys from about 10-15 siege frigates they can nuke your planet! I think you should make siege frigates about 50% as damaging to planets or make some easier way to counter them. The adjustment you made in 1.02 was not nearly good enough based on playing 2 3+ hour multip
My little list to add to the growing fray :-) 1. Fix Phase Jump Inhibitors to be useful - or barring that, make the AI not do a "Well since X is > Y and X is their # / power of ships and Y is my #/power of ships I should retreat!" The AI are the biggest bunch of cowards i've seen! 2. Fix the AI. Even on hard it is pathetically easy. They never build max tactical cap defended worlds that require any effort to take, and half the time they will not even go in on you much when
You have entered the stardock.net account information that serial is associated with right? You may have to enter your friend's e-mail address and then use that serial for it to work. Not totally sure since you have a strange situation.
Evilidler, if you have tokens on your TG.Net account you can go to http://www.totalgaming.net/ and purchase the game with your tokens by logging in there with your StarDock.Net account. They will then send you your serial key etc and download instructions. That has seemed to work for some other people that were having trouble finding the release version on SDC.
Martimus, One thing you can try is go to http://www.totalgaming.net/ and login to your account there. Then click on "Buy" for Sins of a Solar Empire and you can "purchase" the game with your tokens on that window (assuming they show up there). They will then send you an e-mail with your serial key / download link etc. I've read that others are having trouble using tokens to purchase Sins right now as well.
Hey think my friend had the same issue and I figured out how to get it to work (you will need the serial eventually though I think). Go to TotalGaming.Net and in the top of the window, you should see where you can login to a TG.Net account. Instead click on "Create Account". Create a TG.Net account here using the SAME e-mail address and information as your StarDock Store account (they are 2 totally different accounts turns out!). Then once you do that and verify the TG.Net accoutn vi
Geforce 7900 GTX 512 here which was last-gen's highest range card. Runs the game great on everything maxed out. However, remember that the game does use lots of RAM too. I have it sitting at 1.3 GB of ram in use just for the game, and it pegs BOTH my processor cores (I have a dual-core processor) at 100% so it seems to have been written with threading in mind. All of those other things can also affect your lag / gameplay about as much as the Graphics card does.
Yeah I think it is better than Homeworld 2. Also, I can have shadows without WTF-owning my machine. Homeworld 2 had the crappiest shadowing code i've ever played on (actually, I didn't play on it because I had to turn off all shadows to get it to run on my high-end machine!). The star backgrounds are also higher-res than that screenshot. I think the issue is you are zooming in on one ship and expecting it to look way better than a game that focused on smaller fleet sizes. Yo
You can get a good enough 8 series Geforce (8600 GT) for around $100. However, you will need to have a PCI-Express motherboard which i'm sure yours is not with a Geforce 4 card! That card is way below the minimum requirements for the game so you will have to upgrade to play.
I'm assuming you don't have the game yet from your questions.. You interact with planets through a development set of things you can build such as better Emergency Infrastructure (withstand bombardment better), Better Logistics, Better Tactical, and Better Population Infrastructure. That last one you can research to allow for higher planet populations. The planet populations grow slowly on their own, and different planet types (Terran, Volcanic, Ice, Desert etc) have different max population
My understanding of it from playing the Advent is if you have a friendly capital ship of yours that dies, resurrection can be cast by the Progenitor and it will transfer the experience of the dying capital ship to one of your other capital ships. So basically, you will need a Progenitor + other capital ships in your fleet for it to work. It can be a pretty powerful ability to help enhance your capital ship fleet when you lose some capitals.
Didn't read over the whole thread, but why not just nuke them with a bunch of super weps? In my experience the AI died when we took out all of their planets, we didn't even have to go in and finish clearing them out. If you are TEC at least, you can just nuke their planets with novalith cannons and be done with it.
You can pause in multiplayer, at least in online games you can. I did it last night several times during a 4 hour game with my friend whenever he got a cell phone call. Just hit the "Pause/Break" key, usually to the right of scroll lock. it is possible you have one of those weird keyboards that use "Function Lock" to have multiple things on all the keys along that top row so you may need to toggle that to get it to work. I could not find pause anywhere in the key bindings menu so i'm
Oleandrummer, random thing to try, does your University provide you with any form of anti-virus software? I have seen some cases where Norton can interfere with Sins being able to host etc so you might try disabling anti-virus and anti-spyware software you might have installed before running the game.
Excellent thread, I too have noticed massive framerate slowdown when a coloured text message appears. Surely text rendering doesn't take that much CPU/graphics to do? My guess is the coloured text is usually a whisper from the AI, and at the same time they are starting up AI scripts or your defenders are all running AI scripts to move to engage so it causes the lag. My system: Athlon X-2 4400+ 2 GB DDR Ram Geforce 7900 GTX 512mb Graphics Windows XP SP2 As long
The best system i've seen for this type of game (Hegemonia was very similar to this game's style in some ways) is to switch the way the research system works in single player campaign. Give the player say, 2000 research "points" on the first mission. Each item in the trees are given increasing points values and the player can then research a limited number of items per mission which are then persistent across all missions. You could probably eliminate the need to even build labs that way as we
XP when it first came out (XP Professional version that is) was in fact really close to the NT Kernel since it was based off of it. However, after 2 service packs (about to be 3 with even more Vista features yoinked back into XP) they are substantially different. Also, I think Windows 2000 is not even supported at all by Microsoft any more with updates any more so it is definitely a security concern for people still using it.
Good idea, nice to see the effects of research which is something that was mentioned back in beta as well. The progress bar color idea is nice too, yellow is really hard to see on that background (love your example pics too!).
Hmm, my friend and I did a multiplayer game, I saved it then when we started it back up it seemed to get it to him automatically? At least, we never transferred the save file out of game, so unless it sends him the save file when I hit "Save" in-game (I doubt it we'd notice the lag i'm sure) then it transferred it to him when the game was loading.
Pausing IS in the game, in multiplayer. Just hit the "Pause Break" key on your keyboard. Tested this last night in an IronClad Online Multiplayer game with my friend. It said "ironwill96 has 10 pauses remaining" when I did it, so it looks like it is metered per person. This is a thread from May of last year waaay back in early beta, so it was probably added sometime after this thread was posted.
Yeah I finally did some multiplayer myself and got the notice that others wouldn't be able to join. Alt+tabbed out and threw up a Battle.Net service enabled on my router and it worked like a champ even though it still complained that the ports weren't open. I think you have to restart Sins to have it recognize the change in the network states but it still works fine. Got a 3 hour start to what should be a 10-hour multiplayer game or so :-)
[quote] I like that those who don't like the pirates are savaged by the designers and loyalists in this thread as whiners or new players who can't possibly have a valid complaint about how a group called "Pirates" shouldn't amount to a fourth faction and a more dangerous opponent than the AI (especially in the early portion of a game) in a serious space strategy game. Ironclad and Stardock have a fanatical fan base, but constant catering to that small fan base does n
To the person asking about ICO artwork, maybe they mean IronClad Online artwork? Things for the lobby or the "theme" and "character" artwork you can pick to represent yourself.
Indeed it is most excellent. Tycho should do a detailed write-up on it tomorrow I suspect based on what he said on Wednesday. It also shares a lot in the vein of Master of Orion type games except real-time instead of turn-based.
