I normally use Flaks to deny LRM rushers. After that it's all about responding to what he's bringing to the table, though there's no denying that you'll need some LRMs of your own if you go on the offensive.

The way I see it, it's only the smaller maps such as Close Encounters that could possibly warrant the selection of a non-colony cap.
Great thread, I also vote for sticky, it would certainly reduce the about of clutter in the forum. Thanks for the work!
Is that Stephen Colbert or just a look-alike (yes, I'm aware that the real Stephen Colbert isn't a bobble-head...)?
I see no problem in giving the host the option to choose to have a timer or not. Freedom is always good.
I'm honestly not trying to be disrespectful. But, did you even read what I wrote?
On the larger maps, I normally have a planet per front with five frigate factories, as well as a central planet with five factories for back up, and research Industrial Jugganaut right after Persuasive Economy. Due to the inflexible fleet upkeep system in Sins, I tend to favor high production capabilities over getting a fleet size larger than my enemy. Sins heavily favors quality over quantity when done right.
Well, I certainly do hope that TEC trade, or rather, the black market, gets fixed. Something as simple as doubling the prices and the effects of the fluctuations would go a long way towards making TEC refineries relevant again, and would give mainly the Vasari an economic boost. As I see it, RA is one of two major balances issues.
Thank you Jinx, you just saving me from having to repeat myself a lot. Now, a little will suffice. Please, Rawrsteromgomg, read the thread before posting. You may think this thread was 113 replies filled with people whining and crying about RA until you came along and banged some sense into everybody. Not so. You pretty much just reposted all the superficial "Ra isn't overpowered, get a grip" arguments made by roughly one third of the posters in this thread. Now I'm whining, but not about RA, bu
Now, I'm not sure about the detailed specifics, but since nobody else have replied, I might as well do. 1. Trade ports built at the same planet work independently of eachother. So, if you have two trade ports at one planet and their trade routes go to the same destination, they will provide the same income. I've sometimes had planets with more than ten trade ports. 2. As far as I remember, each extractor can provide ore to three refinery ships. This means that a planet with tw
Well, it's really for multiplayer. I think it would be a nice option for the host to have. The host can choose not to have a timer at all. Currently, a multiplayer game could last for days straight depending on the skill of the players.
I can't figure out what gave you the impression that I was talking about SP? The original author pointed out that this would mainly be for multiplayer use, and I didn't say anything to indicate I was talking about SP. You seem to
They've answered this one back in beta as a no. It would require a redesign of the meshes, and at this point take too much time/resources for a minor benefit.Awww man, thats a waste. No big deal anyway.Could we have a build in mp3 player too?Im not saying that the music is bad(in fact,it's damn good, especially the main menu music) but i would love to have the chance to put my own music into too.Would be awesome to listen to Explosion in the Sky while playing Sins.
Can'
I don't think the Phase Stabilizers are overpowered if you remove RA from the equation. Sure, it's an incredible ability to have, but far from overpowered. But, it does add to the disadvantage players are at when battling RA, since the faster respond time greatly hampers the effect of maneuver warfare, which is pretty much the only way to take out an RA player. Attrition only works if your fleet is significantly more powerful than his. With regards to those that have suggested that enem
Could be neat, though I doubt it would be used much, especially compared to how much work I think would be involved in creating such a system (mostly devising a way to fairly calculate such a "final score").
I rate Insurgency over RA anyday.
Jinx said it best when he called Insurgency an harrasment. I normally just have one or two fleets consisting of five Kodiaks and a couple of Hoshkikos at the ready in my backyard in order to control rebels. Heck, I rarely even bother researching Insurgency (even though I've researched all the requisites in order to boost culture), unless my enemy is low on culture. This could make it sound like I prefer what ZeratulTheDT calls option B, b
On a partly unrelated note: I was of the impression (or guessing, I don't remember) that the "thing" was the Advent.
Bump. Still doesn't work in 1.03 (at least not for me), even when assigning a new hotkey. It's pretty annoying since retreat is a pretty neat feature to use (especially in small scale battles).
So, I assume that since we're discussing how hard it is to beat RA 3vs1 we've moved beyond discussing if RA is unbalanced, to how horribly unbalanced it exactly is. ;)
RA, while certainly strong as anything, I think is intentionally so. I mean, the game MUST end at somepoint, otherwise the Vasari would just be sitting around like anyone burning infrastructure and the like.By the time level 8 premiere techs have been researched, it should really be a zero-sum C&C style game with superweapons blowing things up left and right.Of course with respect to the fact that other races don't have this easy "End the Game" ability, there is a problem.
<br
okay, first of all, RA is not an instant win button, there are ways to beat it, one being kill the guy beforehand, but if you cant do that, then just destroy the phase gates or cut them off from all their resources, herby draining them of all power with or without phase gates, honestly, a carrier is weak a heavy cruiser is only moderately powerful compared to caps and all the other ships are weak little frigates so RA is not overpowered just hard to beat it only gives one or two good ships

I completely agree with you, as I've said many other times, but not as detailed as you, RA dumbs down the game experience, it's too easy to use once you have it, and it's too frustrating to play against.
Simply fantastic, it's great to see that the developers are paying attention to what's going on in the community and acting accordingly. Since most of the ongoing discussions on the forum could be percieved to be negative due to the subject matters (inbalances and bugs), let me just point out that noone would air their concerns in such a hardcore maner, if it wasn't because they fundamentally loved the game. You've probably already figured that one out, but it's always nice to be told :)
I thought I had already written this, but having had some problems with my browser and not seeing it listed in my "replies" section, here I (maybe) go again. I'm with you on everything, except the fact that there's nothing done about RA. As I've said in several other threads, RA is only tolerable now due to the combined unbalance of TEC Trade and the Black Market, nerf those two, and you're left with RA being dominantly overpowered again. An easy and effective way to balance RA, would b
I don't know if the Akkan is the best TEC cap per se, but I wouldn't hesitate one second in recommending it as the, by far, best choice for a first TEC cap.
