Bubb9, I hope noone replies with a mentality that even resembles yours, what's the use of replies like #54 and #74? Are you actively trying to incite flame wars?
Sorry for double post but this guy captures exactly why the super weapons and RA exist.
Could you elaborate? Perhaps come up with some rebutals to my arguments against his? All you're doing to post statements with an attitude as if they are god given tautologies. Unless you post something with merit, I'l
Oh, and Vanechka, the compliment was sincere. The term "Pyrrhic victory" has it's origins in a man, one King Pyrrhus, and the results of a famous campaign of his. As such, it should be capitalized. Alot of people do not know the origins of the term, and would not do so.
I'm familar with the etymology being the term, but I was unsure as to whether or not a word/term derived from a name should be capitalized, this isn't the case in Danish. Thanks for clearing that up. :)<br

Sounds great that changes to RA are coming, though I wouldn't mind being assured that it isn't "just" a fix to the exploit. :)
I love how 'omg we quit playing this game because of one skill'. Here's a nutty idea, don't use that skill or play a different race until it is suitably balanced? : gasp :
I would think their issue is based on others using RA, not themselves.

I'd love for Ironclad as well to make some kind of statement about Returning Armada, leaving the issue unanswered will only further degrade the threads on the matter into flame wars. Even if Ironclad for reasons inconceivable to me (but that's just me) decides against tweaking RA, I would prefer to hear about sooner, rather than later. To everyone else, please don't turn this into a flame war. Be civil.
Good. Then you might consider posting something that is not whiny or complainy next time? Please?
I made a genuine request, I'm also genuine sorry if you mistook it for sarcasm, since it's probably partly why you've decided - and succeeded in doing so - to disolve the thread into something resembling a flame war. I do, however, find it ironic that by complaining about perceived whining. If you had taken a closer look at the relevant threads you would have seen that only v

Well, there's definetively a need for defense vessels. You could try to aggresively his caps in the hope that he'll retreat. Other than that, target his support cruisers and divide your fleet into groups that each focus fire on select targets. Otherwise, he'll be able to significantly increase the longitivity of his ships with his support cruisers. But really, it sounds like your best option is to retreat and rebuild. Still, you probably already know all of this since you've managed to survive t
I self limit myself and never use Returning Armada.
Well, it was my first game as Vasari, and I'm not going to finish it due the aforementioned reasons.
Amazing story my friend, makes me want to make a post like this as well.
Has anyone stopped to consider that maybe the top tier techs are very powerful by design? Maybe they're intended to be game-ending, to avoid boring stalemated games that go on forever. I remember these exact debates coming up with the top level research in Rise of Nations, and Brian Reynolds' answer was just that... at some point the game has to end. If it's gone on long enough that someone has teched up that high, it's time to end this game and start a new one! <br/
Vanechka, did that game have humans? Did you lock the teams? I find in other than 1v1, the ai teams up long before you can make peace and kicks my arse. I'd never get anywhere near RA unless it was some multi-system map which I haven't tried one yet.
I'm tired, so I'm just going to quote what I said in reply #43:
To illustrate to myself how overpowered RA is, I started a locked 1vs9 Unfair AIs (random huge multisystem map, started in the same sy
I can't imagine how against a human (I haven't played online yet) you could do all that and not get crushed long before by a TEC who quickly has a nice economy going and multiple caps to your 1. He can just go planet by planet, take you out with little defense on your part (you are blowing your wad on all of the above) and destroy you civic centers, your phase gates etc. It has to be a real bad player that gives you enough time to keep an economy going without a strong defensive fleet whi

Jinx, it's really incredible how many times we've been lured into repeating ourselves... To illustrate to myself how overpowered RA is, I started a locked 1vs9 Unfair AIs (random huge multisystem map, started in the same system as 4 of the AIs). I'm winning, easily. But I'm not having any fun, at all. It's really quite ridiculous. Now I know AIs can't really be compared to humans, but this still says a lot about the brute force of Returning Armada.

In my first real game as Vasari (TEC-only player so far) I just started a 1vs9 Unfair locked teams (random races and personalities for the AIs) on a standard huge multisystem map. I've almost played three hours so far, and I'm certain of victory. It sounds like I'm bragging, but Returning Armada is so incredibly strong vs. the AI (since it doesn't know how to counter it), that only the first 30 minutes of pure survival were thrilling. When I reached the half hour mark, I had managed to get RA up

No, of course my cap ships aren't stacked :) You're right that most cruiser abilities should be on autocast, but there are often situations in which a certain ability is disirable on a certain ship right away. And although autocast generally does a good job, it isn't always as intelligent as a human being. So, I normally try to augment autocast as much as possible. This is especially true for TEC which lacks AoE cruiser abilities.

Yes, I'm using 1.03. I must admit that the ten miinutes mentioned only happened to me once, maybe factors influenced it, so I might have been a bit hasty mentioning it, but delays of around two minutes are quite common for me.

I really value stacking in Sins, so I was a bit disappointed when I discovered how unintelligently the game handles stacked units. When you have selected a stacked group of units, you will only have access to the "leader's" antimatter instead of seeing a collective pool. To make matters worse, it'll by definition be this unit that executes any orders to use abilities, irregardless of his relative location to the target and his fellow ships' locations. This adds an unnecessary element of luck

During one of my recent games, I noticed how group jumping with large fleets is still fundamentally broken due to pathfinding issues. The problem stems from the fact that ships automatically begin preparing for phase jump as soon as they reach the perimeter of the outer ring of the gravity well. When large fleets are thrown into the mix, this effectively pretty much causes a catch-22 scenerio: Due to pathfinding issues, this idle front group of the fleet blocks the remaining parts of the from le

The effect of Designate Target is rather vaguely described in-game as being a 25% negative damage deduction. And my first question is quite simply if I'm right in concluding that this damage deduction refers to shield mitigation? My second question is pertains to whether or not any of the TEC cruiser abilities stack? The few tests I've done so far seems to indicate that they, in fact, doesn't.
Tec and Advent both have a much more reliable economy, or am i wrong? If you're in a map big enough to have allowed Vasari to get returning armada, you should have enough trade ports and upgrades that you will be able to replace your fleet just as quicklyMaybe not as fast, if you're Advent, which has the bonus of best units in the game,or, even faster, with Tec, if they rushed pervasive economy, or even if they didn't.Rush the worlds with bombers take out the phase stabilizers, and keep b

Sins have a series of minor unit-related balance issues that mainly are noticable in highly competitive games on a relatively small maps. 1.04 seems to be doing a adequately job rebalancing these. Then, we have the major balance issues of TEC trade (or rather the Black Market) and Returning Armada. In 1.03, there's no doubt about the fact that TEC trade is the dominant imbalance and have somewhat neutralized the effect of Returning Armada. The huge gain in popularity TEC received after 1.03 was

Let's power up LHC and end this. I won. I mean, come on. Is that really the way to argue? If you have nothing else to show for yourself than ignorance and arrogance, then don't even bother. For some reason, this thread had escaped my attention until now. Overall, I'm fairly pleased with the changes listed, though I doubt the changes to the Black Market are radical enough to make refineries a viable option again. Trade spam will still be the best way to play as TEC. But, worse, I must admit that I'm disillusioned by the lack of any kind of change to Returning Armada. I'm actually pretty stunned, if not baffled. It seems that 1.04 will incooperate changes only the most hard
