I might have to look at getting 2010, since as a student I can get it for $13. [e digicons][/e]
Wrong. We have observed mutations. I assume the rest of your argument is based on those two wrong assumptions.
Good to know that, once again, you're not reading what I'm writing. I'm taking my leave of this discussion.
wow, I think I broke my sarcasm muscle on that.
Don't worry, that particular muscle regenerates at an utterly astounding rate. My 2c on this discussion is that the climate and natural benefits of the land actually have very little to do with the success of the USA as a country. In fact, it's a bit insulting that you act as though the US was just handed its prosperity on a platter, because it most certainly wasn't.</p
The thing about your numbers argument is that DNA doesn't work like numbers. A DNA strand can only end up with the same information contained in the parent DNA... therefore even after X number of generations, no new information will be gained that didn't already exist within the species. Due to the complexities of dominant and recessive genes, the child may wind up with different characteristics than the parents - but the parents did have the DNA for those characteristic
If you are right the border between English and German would have stopped that evolution, wouldn't it?
I never said the border stopped evolution. I said the border forced a species reclassification once crossed, and that only mutation could cross it. That should make sense... once something changes enough, it is no longer considered to be the same as the original. In other words, we reclassified German as English because Engli
Talk about circular reasoning.
Not really. Either you believe in God or you don't. If you do, then you have the Bible to understand Him. Of course, you're just trying to find any little thing you can to argue about - I'm quite sure you couldn't care less about Noah's Ark or how those animals fit on it.
Such a statement still requires believers to assume knowledge of the mind of God, something not even Jesus did. There is no other context for the phrase 'make far more sense'. You can't rationalize it away.
Umm... it's called spacial relations. Math. Given the size of the Ark, there would have had to be fewer species on it that there are today for them all to fit, and the larger ones would have not been full grown. K
Assuming the "designer" isn't some omnipotent invisible energy being who goes "POOF!, Now life exists on this ball of dirt", ID can be disproven by the lack of life anywhere else in the universe.
So in other words, scientology can be proven wrong this way, assuming you can actually prove it. @ Daiwa: I think you're just trying to use semantics to counter a statement I never made. If you re-read wh
That's not how Creationists understand their ideology.
That's how I understand my ideology, and I know for a fact I'm not alone.
Evolution explains how the different species came to be. Creationism does not (in a scientific way).
Well, I think the entire Intelligent Design ideology would disagree with you. It's a purely scientifically-based creationist mov
But "Creationism" is not the belief that G-d created the world or influences it. "Creationism" is the belief that G-d created each species as it is individually.
"Creationism" by definition is just the belief that a higher power, be it God or aliens or whatever else, created life on Earth. Christians generally believe that species were created individually because the Genesis account in the Bible suggests that they were. Thus,
I'm pretty sure we covered this already: your idea of creationism and the theory of evolution are non-equatable. I'm not sure why you keep comparing the two - one is an idea on how life began and the other is a theory on how life progresses. You are comparing apples and oranges, yet seem a bit smug about it anyway. The term creationist is a bit vague, you know. It could technically apply to everyone from Christians to Scientologists. Oh, and didn't we already e
Sometimes I suspect that you go out of your way to be antagonistic, Leauki.
True, evolution does not care. However, if people really believed that evolution was responsible for all the progress we've made as a species, wouldn't they do their best not to care as well?
You're probably right that I don't have as much experience working with illegals as you do. However, the main point was that illegals are called "illegals" for a reason. Others here are stating the issue more succinctly and accurately than I am, so I think I'll leave it to them. I do want to clarify a few things first, though: firstly, I'm not racist. I say illegal Canadian immigrants are just as illegal as Mexican ones, and they sh
Perhaps, but the fact remains that they want things to be fair; isn't "fair" a concept which is specifically destroyed by natural selection? I guess the answer, then, would be that people believe in evolution for the past, but seek to move away from it for the future?
If you are in this country illegally, I don't care what your motives are, what your family lives on, where you come from, what you eat for lunch, or what color your skin is...you are a criminal and you need to leave.
Well said.
Before any discussion gets underway, please note that this is NOT a creation vs. evolution debate. In fact, for the discussion I'd appreciate it if you would assume evolution is true.
I've recently been wondering what is going through the minds of US society today. On one hand, 90% or more of the US population believes that evolution and abiogenesis was responsible for how human life came about, and believes that survival of the fittest is optimal for evolutionary progess. Yet on the other hand, we have left liberal left, backed by a majority of the US, which wants to save the little guy from a lot of heartache, when 90% of the time
I didn't know until now that Cinco de Mayo was actually a holiday started by an alcohol company... haha. I wonder why I've always heard that it was such a major thing in Mexico? And yeah, stuff like this recent incident really does make me question the intelligence of humanity. Or rather, it makes me question it a little more.
I just realized that "I'MMA FIRIN' MAH LAZAH" could have been taken as bigotry against black people, and I apologize. It was, in fact, a reference to "the Lazer Collection" which can be found on YouTube. *cough*
I'MMA FIRIN' MAH LAZAH!
A black man escaping slavery was willfully breaking our laws prior to the Emancipation Proclamation.
I suppose you also believe the Civil War was fought over slavery? Bzzzt, wrong. Good old Abe Lincoln couldn't have cared less about slavery. In fact, most of the US didn't care about it either. The Civil War was fought because the South was protesting against the government
I'll agree in part with your list. You don't state who provides the "rights". If it is the goverment...well, then the government giveth and the government taketh away.
Only because the citizens receiving those rights have no interest in keeping them.
Nice foulmouth and dismissal of history repeating, there.
Nice comeback, there. This isn't history repeating itself. Being against illegal immigration isn't because we're racist, it's because if Mexico were to come into the US there would be zero jobs left for native-born US citizens who want them. That wouldn't be fair. I, for one, don't want to have to move to South America just to find work be
I just said that they should set the oil spill on fire... though in all likelihood that's not the best solution... But why would we stop drilling? The US is already grossly dependent on other countries for its continued existence - we don't need to increase that dependency any further. Of course, other countries are somewhat dependent on us, too, but that just means that the US is taking the rest of the world down with it. Or maybe I'm too much of a doomsayer and th
