The search functions do not seem to work in IE 8 (this includes the tag search). The tag search returns 0 results, and the normal article search gives a standard page that says "Egads!" and something about code-writing pigeons, no real error message.

Well, as I said before, the IPCC has stated a worldwide average temperature increase of about 2 degrees Farenheit per century (I believe the actual number is something like 1.3). At that rate, I think it's safe to say that it is hardly an immediate problem, unlike what doomsayers would have you believe. And it certainly doesn't justify eco-friendly DVD cases.

You believe that technology is advancing at a pace at which we may be able to reduce the planet's temperature in the near (or distant) future, but that this same technology may have unintended side-effects? It's possible that you've mega-overclocked your processor and accidently fried one of its circuits (certainly possible with that extra dust). I did that a few years ago with a cheap Compaq Presario I had - every time the CPU usage went above something like 80%, the whole system would die.

I personally get tired of all the global warming/climate disaster movies and fightglobalwarming.com ads that are all over the place. There is no proof that anything humans do in any way affects the climate. And there certainly isn't proof that said warming will kill us, or in any way affect us. Cold winters kill more people than hot summers. Not to mention that there is no proof that, were disaster en route, that humans could do anything to stop it.

Yes, I am aware of that. My problem was not in making alpha channels, but it getting them to work on the Start Menu, but it has been fixed thanks to 2of3.

Okay... the Start Menu is not actually transparent. Only the edges have a per-pixel alpha channel to make them blend smoothly. All Start Menu pieces are set to "No semi transparency." EDIT: I set them all to semi transparency, and voila! It works - except that now the start button glow is completely gone, haha. Go figure. I'll work on it a bit to see if I can fix it. FYI, my computer specs are: Intel P4 w/ HTT, 3.0 Ghz Windows XP 32-bit NVidia GeForce FX 5200, 256 MB, running drivers 175.19 (newest available for this card) 1 GB DDR2 RAM Old machine, I know, haha. Hopefully I'll get to upgrade relatively soon.

Start Menu Alpha Error in Skinning WinCustomize Forums

Okay, I'm having an interesting problem/possible bug in SKS 6 Pro/WB 6.4, on XP 32-bit. Basically, I am using per-pixel alpha blending in the skin I am making, but for some reason it doesn't work in the Start Menu. It works everywhere else (except maybe my tray expander arrow). Meh, my main computer is still a 3.0 Ghz P4 w/ 1 GB of RAM and an 80 GB, 7200 RPM HDD running XP 32-bit. I would love to upgrade, haha. As for SSD's, yeah, I'm sure they're amazing. I imagine the seek times are less than half of the average HDD, and considering the HDD is often a choke point for a system's speed... *drools*
