^ I agree with Max2411. From a game immersion and realism standpoint, a civilization would not magically be able to see everything in their ZOC without sensors. Make this a setting option so players can decide. And realistically a surrendering civilization would not kill all their citizens and destroy their planets. Unpopulate them or make it an option.

I also request an easy on/off option for enabling/disabling the Mercenaries in the expansion so a player can have the extra factions and other improvements and not have the Mercs part of it. I want a "realistic" feel of building a race and government...I don't see super mercenary battleships attacking US interests in the Indian ocean today.

...in DA you can also break the alliance in the trade screen under treaties.
In DA, if you click on the foreign relations screen and to the "Relations" tab, click on your ally and in the lower-left under the race icon you can click to break the alliance. This will change relations from Ally to Friendly. This may be the same in DL and TA, but cannot confirm.
I had the same exact issue. You can correct it by going to your Windows Documents folder, then \My Games\GC2DarkAvatar. There is a file there called prefs.ini. Scroll down and change the ModsDir entry back to the default and save. Then reopen the game and you should be all set. ModsDir=C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Mods
