I find a lot of friends play aoeiv over other games because they have a mastery to complete which also manages to communicate and make them understand core or more obscure game mechanics. It’s a win win. It also means so much more because the items can be shown to other players. I guess for them it’s just the sense of accomplishment of having been able to pass challenges that mean something. Most steam achievements on the other hand are arbitrary and meaning

In the original game you could set your ships to attack within 3-4 different ring diameters. This would do the trick to fix the problem. What was happening for me was that ships near to being engaged with enemy blue warships were pulling off at the last second to go after enemy greens scout that had just entered the system on the other side of the system. Perhaps the scout ship was closer to planetary assets my ships thought they had to defend as a priority? As an addend
Be better of you could choose the orbit when you place the object and then could research a skill to change orbit. geostationary or stationary research to change starbase thrusters
Thanks Yarlen. A frank answer and honest answer, much appreciated. I am very curious as to what the "scope" of the project includes.
I agree wholeheartedly with all you have said. Also that Sins1 although a great and unique gem oif a game, but that it got stale fast. I could only play one complete game of it every so often because of the repetitive nature of the late game and the face that the game pretty much played the same every single time in terms of research and battles. It was blob wars with the largest blob winning. I've said elsewhere i'd loved sins to take stellaris's research tree and ship building
Steel Division 2 had a novel way of dealing with scale. As you zoomed out the trucks got bigger to match. Meaning that when you zoomed in all the way everything was to scale. When you zoomed out things were made bigger in relative terms so you could see everything. If you wanted their was an option in the menu to set the the game not to make things larger as you zoomed out at all. Half the point of sins is to watch the battles. I am not a fan of later total wars "icon or flag wars" wh
As part of this I would love a command to stop my ships distracting themselves from the correct faction!!!! I was trying to destroy pirates and my ships kept pulling off to chase another factions transitory scout ships!!! grrrr
I notice sometimes that my ships automatically go after ships that I do not consider priority targets - like garda frigates. Any chance we could get a priority ship type order for each of our own ship types or even set individually for individual ships if we so choose? This way we could set groups to go after certain ship types automatically in battles.
I enjoyed the AOEIV mastery system and liked the challenge of having to progressively beat harder AIs after completing 5 or so challenges in between to eventually complete "qualification" for a particular faction. The kind of things I would be looking at for a mastery would be: TEC Rebel: Mastery lvl1: Use a scout with autoscout turned off to find 2 minor factions Ma
It now just needs a formation that will create a perimeter around it so it xan do it’s work. Like a real carrier group. How would we stop enemy ships and force them to stay out of range of the carrier? Without special late game abilities the only method I know of is destroying the enemy.
This is one of my favourite new models in sins2. I have not fully explored it though. Waiting for the next update.
Probably just as well. Maybe a new planet category called “dying planet” then. Where it’s got a countdown to explode or crack because of some event like one too many bombardments.
Sounds like you are talking about David Weber’s Safehold series which is very good. I have read about 8 of them iirc.
Oh. I am not sure whether I tried to give them orders. Great that you will be able to turn it down ff and control it. I do like that feature then if all this is to come to pass.:)
Will check this out thx
Joshua Dalzelle Warship (black fleet trilogy) Good solid novel series about starship operations. Basically sins of a solar empire in book form. Relatively recent series still being written today I think even after 9 books.
Well if it’s not true then they are making a lot of smooth surfaces with more polygons instead of drawing in more details. Large capital ships often look like they are made of flat uninteresting sides. Which would be in keeping with the minimalistic art style. For me this is a backwards step. I do however like the new cobal frigate model. I do think that the fortnite style art is a trend these days that ends with games looking kiddy and looking like they were sketched in 5 minut
I was not saying bombardment should be removed. Simply that better options should exist. Graphically sins2 is a let down for me. I think sins1 had more detail and probably better models. I am not a fan of the cartoon like simplified cell shaded kind of stylised srt in game. It seems that these days developers love to let the game engine effects do the hard work, saving polygons on the models.
I would not want a player to be able to do this like happened in planetary annihalation. But Was thinking that uninhabited planets and perhaps more rarely inhabited planets with lots of warning and perhaps an evacuation plan.... could be knocked off their standard orbital tracks and onto another by some sort of space event such as asteroid impact. This would then make the player look at where the new orbital track is heading and change the games phase lanes.
I was certainly not one of those that asked for the same game and did start with sins by getting a boxed set with special edition posters etc way back in the day. I think even back in the day my friends and I only played sins "every now and then" because it took so long and did become a slog at the end. After you finish a game you just don't think you can do it again for a while because of the repetition that happens especially at the end. So I am not one of those guys that plays the game exc
I agree that we are not going to see anything groundbreaking in sins2 when it comes to ground combat, I think homeworld3 will be doing that sort of thing. Something simple but pleasant to watch would be find for sins2. In it's simplest form Show troop ships launching dropships and have them flow down to the planet. Then it's going to be dice rolls and numbers as the planetary defence forces fight the invasion forces. The first side to reach zero troops or that rolls a surrender
I have never been a fan of nuclear bombardment of a planets surfsce. Os it possible thst we might get an option to land marines using troop ships and have a sort of land battle screen? otherwise can we also have a way for the surrender of a planet by a player after his or her main buildings have been surgically struck from orbit. A player may then surrender the planet in anticipation of getting it back while then benifitting the attacker who does not need to rebuild the infrastructure
Honestly I used to play mods but do not anymore. Especially with new games that get dlc and patches it’s just no fun getting half way through a game and having your save game not work because the mod breaks after a patch. Add to that that the community can make a sins1 mod. add to this that if people buy the game on epic mods will be a real pain for them. Even potential security risks. ad to this that sins1 looks and plays fine right now, it may get a little slow
Thanks for the reply. :)
