I've gotten some great planets off of them - the major ai players never seem to try hard to reclaim their manufacturing capitals, etc, and the jk planets are easy pickings. If they were an organized faction they might represent a nice challenge, but unless you have set a goal to finish in a certin time, they are nothing more than another speed bump.

I think it would be fun to play the Dread Lords with a time limit - X turns (adjusted for galaxy size) to conquer everything before the Arnor swoop in and end the game. Or, to play against them and try to survive until the turn limit. Difficulty level would determine how much tech the other races start the game with.
ONLY KILL IN THE NAME OF LOVE
lol - that sounds like a new James Bond movie... with Bon Jovi performing the theme song! Every time I play a big galaxy game with tech victory and surrenders enabled, one of two things happens: 1. One of the aliens gets to tech victory first; or 2. One of the aliens (usually the Korath) start gobbling up the other empires; they always seem to surrender to t

I think once it gets toward the end of the game, the remaining AIs go into some sort of permanent crisis mode where they don't research much (if at all) and don't build much on their planets; they just keep building warship after warship, bankrupting themselves to the point where their population won't grow, either.

The ability to place a mining base or other type of non-population-growing outpost would be nice, though. There could be modules that would increase ship speed in the area like military bases, influence booster modules, etc.
